  1. Lovely, the temperature has dropped down to 28 although it's only a temporary relief. Walked 20K this morning and it was very pleasant. Typhoon tomorrow.
  2. Ray Donovan A powerful episode.
  3. Two typhoons approaching southern JapanTOKYO — Two powerful typhoons, the 15th and 16th of the season, were heading toward southern Japan on Saturday afternoon, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
  4. Cooled down a bit. It's still around 32 but that's no problem after the long spell of super hot weather. I can actually wear clothes at home again, after weeks of walking round in just my knickers
  5. There's no way I'd pay much for a razor. These are about 450 yen or $3.6 for a 5 pack. I'd say they're about the best of the cheapo disposables that I've tried. Getting a good lather is important. I switched back to brush and soap after years of using foam. My missus turned me on to Shea Butter soap. It's very good for shaving.
  6. Murder In The First The first season, with the emphasis only on the Eric Blunt case, was better but I'm still quite enjoying season two.
  7. The programme was very skillfully finessed to get over the seemingly crippling loss of Brenda. It's very much a team show now, although I wish they'd get rid of the kid, I find him a pain. I think he was introduced to show off the softer, maternal side of Sharon. You recall she was a real badass villian and instrumental in Brenda's departure towards the end of The Closer. I agree, it's a well made series that is consistently good, except for Rusty. Everytime Julio speaks up I think of Breaking Bad. The series returns in November. Right, Julio is underwritten and underused. Send Rusty off to Africa ala E.R. and give his screen time to Julio.

  9. He was a great actor. Odd that such an immense talent was mainly confined to tv. As good as the Kevin Spacey version was, the original was something special. Especially liked the way he addressed the camera head on, ala Alfie, to reveal his Machiavellian thinking. Have you ever seen him in ' Murder Rooms: Mysteries Of the Real Sherlock Holmes ' ? Worth seeking out if the answer is no. It's a stretch but the nearest he came to playing a vampire was the overlord alien in Dark City.
  10. True Detective final episode an I still don't know what I've been watching. More to the point, I don't care. A spectacular kamikaze dive from the first series into a swamp of incomprehension.
  11. Typhoon 15 passing by, well out to sea. Cooler, 32C, and very clammy with rain showers
  12. I'll no doubt stick with Windows 7 until the pc packs in or I'm forced to change to 10 by circumstances beyond my control. Anything but the dreaded Windows 8. As we used to say in Yorkshire, I wouldn't give it house room.
  13. Down to a comfortable and balmy 32C. What a difference just a few degrees can make.
  14. 38C today. It's too hot to go outside until the evening.
  15. All the best, Shawn.
  16. Happy birthday, Lon.
  17. 37C again. The Missus and I are starting to feel seriously frazzled.
  18. It's very hot. The average highs have been 36-37C for the last ten days or so. The a/c is running 24/7.
  19. I can't figure it out either. Needs more Christian Slater (maybe). Needs a profound rethink into why it's following the misguided trend of multilayered, baffling complexity and get back to some decent narrative driven storytelling that doesn't first annoy then alienate the audience.
  20. Mr Robot Started well but now I couldn't care less what happens. Fast succumbing to the overcomplex, incomprehension syndrome.
  21. Ray Donovan marathon. Next up season one, episode eleven.
  22. Kim Philby - The Spy Who Went Into The Cold BBC4 (2013)
  23. True Detective Good performances, noirish photography and stylish production are all just about negated by a bewilderingly dense and complex script. Some of the conversations are bizarre to say the least. If the writers intention is to make the viewer feel stupid for not keeping up, they are more than successful in my case. Ray Donovan Love it, great show. I saw that too and found it enjoyable and educational.
