  1. Count me in with the Shirley Scott fans. Two I often play are 'A Walkin' Thing' on Candid (CCD79719) with Terrell Stafford and Tim Warfield and 'Oasis' on Muse( Muse MCD 5388) with Charles Davis and Houston Pearson. On the latter they do a cut called 'Basie In Mind' which features an absolute tear the house down solo by Shirley. The Legends Of Acid Jazz set comprising 'Hip Soul' & 'Hip Twist' is also great (Prestige PRCD-24200-2).
  2. Completely agree, especially 'Singing In The Rain', a true masterpiece and the finest musical ever made( imo), losing to 'The Greatest Show On Earth'. I wonder how many palms were greased with baksheesh to bring off that result.
  3. Jack Teagarden Disc 2 followed by The Complete Decca Studio Recordings Of Louis Armstrong And The All Stars Disc 1
  4. Thanks for the interesting info'.
  5. What exactly is a 'cheesesteak'? I've often heard the term but can't imagine what it is.
  6. Mulligan disc 2 Sarah disc 6 'Snowbound' & ' The Lonely Hours ' Even the excess of strings on the 1st set can't hide the beauty of her vocals.
  7. The Complete Helen Merrill On Mercury Vol 1-4 is outstanding but will be difficult to obtain.
  8. 'Taking Care Of Business' is very nice. You might also like ' Nocturne'(OJC) with Lem Winchester,'Meet Oliver Neslon'(OJC) and Shirley Scott's ' Blue Seven'(OJC). 'Blue Seven' was pretty hard to find but worth the effort. It 'really burns' to use the accepted vernacular.
  9. Hard, cold rain.
  10. The Complete Verve Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band Sessions Disc 1 Brilliant.
  11. Sarah Vaughan Disc 5 'Sarah Sings Soulfully' and 'The Joe Reisman Singles Sessions'
  12. You may just push me into ordering this Bad Boy when it goes into "running low" status. Sonny Stitt Disc One, with Johnny Richards Orch. and Quincy Jones Orch. followed by Sarah Vaughan Disc 4 'After Hours' & 'Sarah+2'.
  13. The Complete Serge Chaloff Sessions Disc 1
  14. Hal McKusick Quartet (Bethlehem) also available on Fresh Sound Triple Exposure (OJC ) Now's The Time 1957-58 (Decca-MCA). The OJC is probably the easiest to find.
  15. That's a question for your ears to answer. i can't tell any difference. then why are you wasting your money? better to buy new music by new artists, or at least recordings by artists you don't already own. that's what i'm doing. My thoughts exactly. Keep the older ones, avoid the remasters. Keep them. This 'which is better ?' debate has been going on for years but to me the BN Works TOCJ series is unsurpassed.
  16. Gerald Wilson Disc 2 followed by Lou Donaldson Disc 3.
  17. George Lazenby ?? Surely you jest fellow posters. I recently rewatched On Her Majesty's Secret Service after reading that it has been highly re-evalulated in certain critical circles. Needless to say my negative opinion hasn't mellowed with the passage of time. As much as I find Roger Moore wryly amusing, he was, literally, a joke as JB.
  18. This one's good
  19. The Complete Roost Johnny Smith Small Group Sessions Disc 6
  20. Without wanting to prejudge Daniel Craig he will have his work cut out to replace Pierce Brosnan who was undoubtedly the only Bond to stand alongside Sean Connery. Brosnan was James Bond.
  21. The Complete Capitol Fifties Jack Teagarden Sessions Disc 1
  22. The Complete Peggy Lee & June Christy Capitol Transcription Sessions Disc 1 June Christy. Just the medicine after a stressful day.
