  2. I've also been having problems with muffled or barely audible dialogue on tv programmes. I explained it as either deterioration of my hearing or inadequacies in my audio playback equipment. I've had my hearing checked and it seems to be quite normal for my age. My amp and speakers perform well on cds and dvds, so I've come to the conclusion that the problem lies in the audio source. However, if I use headphones,(Sony MDR-V6) the problem is solved and the dialogue is clear and sharp. Hence I'm back to square one and unable to explain what the cause is. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I read an article earlier in the year about BBC and ITV viewers complaining about the perceived poor audio quality of some programmes. They beefed about not being able to understand what was being said, which might mean this is not an isolated problem. I don't have a home theatre, I use a regular audio amp (Onkyo) and tower speakers (Kenwood) so am unable to offer any meaningful advice.

  5. I've been on a mini Star Trek Enterprise trip. Season three is very interesting, mainly dealing with the so called Temporal Cold War . I also watched a few episodes from season two which set up the storyline. I like sf series that use long story arcs, and, although it may be clunky at times, this one is very engaging, dabbling with time travel and alternate past and future scenarios. It's also a good bit darker than most Star Trek fare.
  6. Excellent sound quality.
  7. I have a lot of Cliff Jordan with the Magic Triangle from 1975. The Highest Mountain is a great session
  8. The piano sounded out of tune to me, but what do I know. Listened to discs 1,2,3,4. I already had Zodiac but the Mosaic sounded better. Couldn't see the point in the marathon drumming sessions on the latter part of disc 3. The Pharoah Sanders was ok but not really my thing. I already had Glass Bead Games, meaning I just have Super Bass to listen too. All in all, good but far from an essential Mosaic in my humble opinion.
  9. Wormwood- Errol Morris (2017) Slow going in parts but builds steadily to ,what seems in retrospect, it's inevitable conclusion. For full effect, watch with The Man Nobody Knew. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1931549/

  11. The Bank Job - Roger Donaldson (2008)

  13. Christmas Holiday - Robert Siodmak (1944) The thread asking if Die Hard was a Xmas film prompted me to watch this again. The title would lead you to expect a Bedford Falls tableau of snow, Xmas trees and Norman Rockwell happy families. Actually it's an a melancholy but impressive minor key noir with no hint at all of festive cheer.
  14. Both 1 & 2 are set at Xmas. Maybe the producers thought using Let it Snow was a cute gimmick and thought they'd try their luck one more time. I can't by any stretch of the imagination see how anyone could think they are Xmas movies.
  15. Child 44 - Daniel Espinosa (2015) It didn't improve on a second viewing. Transcendence - Wally Pfister (2014) It has some novel ideas but didn't improve on a second viewing.
  16. John Lee Hooker Richard Crossman Jabbo Smith
  17. Patriots Day - Peter Berg (2016) Powerful, well paced telling of the Marathon bombing incident. I thought this was much more effective than the recent Stronger
  18. What did you think of The Last Jedi? It's showing nearby at a brand new IMAX cinema and I'm wondering if I should go and see it.
  19. Mugen No Junin aka Blade Of The Immortal - Takashi Miike (2017) Based on the comic book. High octane thriller. High body count. Tons of action. Totally daft but worth a look.

  21. I'm not one for music criticism but it's a really pleasurable, solid groove all the way through. The band are rock steady tight and the hammond and exceptionaly together drummer really propel it along with hammond foot pedals giving it a 60's Blue Note vibe. Knowing something of your taste I'd say it's a satisfaction guaranteed no brainer. I'm not one for music criticism but it's a really pleasurable, solid groove all the way through.
