  1. The Merrill tracks are fantastic! Don't skip them, don't consider them non-essential! (But then I'm biased, as a huge Merrill-fan...) And the jams certainly aren't the kind of music you listen to daily, but hell, Brownie died so young, I find it hard to consider anything he recorded non-essential. ubu
  2. Me, I'm rarely ever in a puzzle/game mood... but then I then the Terrys and Clark(e)s came to mind... and I had to go for it before having read your initial post as thoroughly as I should have -_- .
  3. sorry, tooter, just now really read your first post...

  5. Here's a biography of Satoko Fujii. ubu
  6. Satoko Fujii, japanese pianist, absolutely stunning musician! She's got discs on Leo (OOP all, I think), and Enja, among others
  7. So I did get the Granz Jam Sessions box last night! Wow, what a nice one! Except for the backside being open, it's done really really nice, in my opinion! ubu
  8. not from me, sorry! I saw one of the series at another store than where I got them for a fourth more of the prize I got them for, or even a third more... strange! The prize I got them for is definitely lower than the list prize. ubu
  9. Now starting my special x-mas Mort Subite-drinking... Have a good time, everybody! ubu

    Funny Rat

Friends, wishing all of you a merry x-mas! ubu
  11. Oh, and as the shipping for the Krupa/James mosaic took so long it only arrived in mid November, I might consider that one sort of an early x-mas gift for myself, too
  12. Lon, same problem here, usually, but this year both my girlfriend (Charles/Jackson) and my sister (Granz box) wanted me to wish something (I'll get more non-music stuff from my girlfriend, for sure, too), thus I'll be having a very very nice x-mas this year!
  13. Well, I asked myself for getting the Free America series, and miraculously got the whole 15 last week Seriously: wishes that will be fulfilled (or at least I still think so at this moment) are the Ray Charles/Milt Jackson 2CD and the Norman Granz Jam Sessions set. Oh, and reading Gary's post -- in november already I felt like wishing an x-mas gift from myself, and in early december, again miraculously I got the Seven Steps Miles box... (though my bank account DOES take notice, it seems ). ubu
  14. Keeping fingers crossed here, too! I wish you a merry x-mas and best of luck for the new year! ubu

    Prez' Horn

Yup, my only chance! But hey, if Prez and Hawk and Trane and Monk and Mingus and Bird and Duke and Satchmo and all are there, jamming with each other, I'll die voluntarily

    Prez' Horn

Dex certainly freely shared credit ... In the hands of Dex this tenor looks like an alto! He was huuuuuuge, and he had that great deep voice to fit. I'd die to get a chance to see him live
  17. welcome - hope you find it for a decent prize, it's quite an expansive disc.
  18. Oh, do you absolutely have to tell me about this? When I ordered it, half a year ago, it was around 80 Euros...
  19. The Blue Note release is fantastic! I love it! Dameron's writing is so beautiful, I like that, I think, even better than Navarro's playing. Don't miss this Milestone disc: It collects most (I think) of the existing air-shots of Dameron bands with Fats. There's more around on cheapo LPs (I have three of them), but mostly those have tracks with the Winding-Eager or the Winding-Powell-Eager frontline, and no Fats (which is fine with me). ubu
  20. quite a dastard discussion going on here
  21. I wanted to relisten to that one a while back and could not locate it It was not right after the Sonny Clarks where it once was. The search is still on... Have that after my Sonny Clark discs - seems the most logical place to me (at least I always find it there).
  22. Well, sorry for me using the "kitsch"-word - I half regretted it a moment after I had posted, but it was simply the first word that came to mind. I know what you mean, Dr. J., but I guess with that, I'm on Rooster's side again. It's just that I really never got into Metheny too much, and never liked the Metheny Group. Maybe the loss is mine, but there's so much music out there, and Metheny is just not the musician that really grabs my attention. I'll spin Q&A again, though, as soon as I find the time. Oh, and I like some Zappa (though I don't essentially think of him as a guitarist), but have no use whatsoever for di Meola (walked out of a concert I could attend for free after ten or fifteen minutes... rarely ever heard such horribly polished elevator music...) ubu
  23. That will happen when Bird and Diz and Town Hall finally sees the light of day. oh yes, can you add this to my order? or shall I keep from ordering till you have that one out... seriously: I ordered the Marsh, better yesterday than today, but still better today than tomorrow, righty right?
  24. Typical saxaphonist! You know, my hero has always been Mr. Gorelick, as he's got such a nice natchural sound
  25. Hope the double! Those rehearsals are terrific to hear!
