Be careful to sort out the Washington stuff! There's three discs of music on two pages, and tracks are named ...t1 and ...t2, you have to rename them into ...t01 and ...t02 after you downloaded them, otherwise you will have to sort them before burning!

Dylan for Nobel Prize in literature?
king ubu replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
She's decidedly Austrian. Her language goes back I think to Hölderlin (check "wolken.heim" for that) most. Certainly there's some Thomas Bernhard in there, too, as is of the whole Austrian "lineage" I think (you know, the sort of "subversive canon", Kraus, Musil, Canetti, Bernhard, etc etc). Seems Austria has quite ambigue feelings about her, there even were some scandals... yet Austria still celebrates some nice fellows such as Karl Lueger, the anti-semite mayor of Vienna (address of the University of Vienna "Karl Lueger-Weg"... funny as hell ), so it's obvious many Austrians should have a problem with authors such as Kraus, Bernhard, or Jelinek. Yet at the same time this "climate" has nurished some of the most fascinating writers of the last decades. And to come back to your post: I'd not liken here to Schmidt (he's beyond any comparison, I suppose), and I don't really know Johnson, but I guess she's a different cup of tea. ubu -
uh, oh, beautiful? me? Four more discs of music, by the way!

And everyone able to so really should try reading her in German. I think it's pointless to translate her language, if not impossible. -

This is great news! They're really taking chances lately! Jelinek is a fantastic writer. I'm not sure if here best days have passed already, but then I'm not familiar wiht much of her latest writings. She has some great novels (two of them were turned into great films, "La pianiste" and "Die Ausgesperrten") and some great plays as well as "Hörspiele". She certainly deserves this honour! ubu -
Listening right now (and recording), thanks! ubu

Yup, same opinion here, but then with the last few they had a lucky hand, in my opinion - finally some skeptics got their share with Naipaul, Kertesz etc... not only world literature light. ubu -
Jean Michel Pilc on Radio Suisse Romande More to be found there, some great music! ubu

Revenant is planning big Albert Ayler box
king ubu replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Sounds good, John! Wow, I'm excited! I guess I skip sleeping until it arrives to get even more excited... (it's almost 4 a.m. here, shit!) -
Friends, I've just had a first complete listen to the great Marco Eneidi disc provided by John B - and I am impressed, I have to admit! Lisle Ellis (never heard him before) is smokin', and so is Ellis! Thanks very much, John! I'll have another listen to this disc as soon as I can, for sure. ubu

ghost, I don't really know her, but judging from her reputation, I'd go see her with such a band, for sure! ubu

Oh well, you already see and/or have the box, and I finally get notice from CDUniverse that they shipped it... will take another week I assume, if not longer. ubu -
I am also not a fan of jazz with vocals, but the disc Nuba, with Lee, Andrew Cyrille and Jimmy Lyons is wonderful! As I posted elsewhere, this might be some of the most lyrical playing I have heard from Lyons and Cyrille spends most of his time playing some fantastic percussion, very influenced by African tribal music, imo. Jeanne Lee really fits in well. I enjoyed her vocals a lot more than I expected to. Very highly recommended That's on "the list"...

John, the Taylor is great! You won't regret getting it!

When may we get it? Have no experience with pre-ordered CDUniverse items... hope it arrives soon! -
ok, whining king got his fair punishment for whining before clicking the link... some interesting stuff, for sure! i wonder will it be worth to update the Taylor? The Lacy looks good, the Braxton? Not sure about the Eskelin, either, Hans! ubu

oh that copy-crap (here comes the king whining again...) really: since they started the cc shit I have bought only around 10 BN CDs, all in sales (three cc ones, others all older RVGs or a few Rare Grooves). before that I used to pick up the RVGs, several times I picked up the whole batch in one go... well no one at EMI cares about customers, right? They just care about illegal downloaders and copiers... ubu

Having just heard a fantastic concert given by Hancock-Shorter-Holland-Blade (I think the same one that was on TV, JazzBaltica 2004) in stellar quality on radio, I have to say that this group is one that's as adventurous as I'd wish Holland's own to be. I don't really want to say his latest quintet was bad, Kilson is a great drummer, I love Chris Potter, and slowly start liking Eubanks quite much, as well, but the whole band is just a bit too tame, not free and open enough, I think. I'll have to revisit the 2CD live album, as I remember loving it when i first heard it last year. ubu

I just found out. The above thing is a bit less than half of the two CD set, it seems. So go buy the CD!
-
Hey wait, I didn't follow this thread lately, is the thing I linked to from that CD? Or is it more of the same gig(s)? ubu

Won't be up for too long (until Oct. 12, I suppose): There are around three or four minutes of talking before it actually starts, so don't give up too fast. Listening right now, looks interesting enough on Paper, Presencer, Parker and Watts, all in one band! ubu
-
A fantastic site! I just joined the group a few days ago, after exchanging a few mails with the person who maintains this site (as well as some more, among them a huuuuuuge Sam Rivers gig-ography). ubu

Türkoz belongs to the Zurich free/improv scene, I never heard her live so far, but she's all over the few places and festivals dedicated to this music (such as Taktlos and the new and great Unerhört). Enjoy! I never had a chance here to see her in such fast company, but with this band, I'd definitely give it a try! ubu
