Oh, yes! Forgot about those two! -

Before you spend the money on that one, be aware that the Deluxe editions that came out after the box (Ballads, Coltrane, Love Supreme) have additional material that's not in the box. Also, you won't get the few live items (half of the At Birdland album, the Newport '63 album, and that track that is available on Quartet Plays..Chim Chim Cheeree etc). Nevertheless, that set is one of my favourites. A few others, that I consider to be non-Mosaics: all of the great Miles Davis boxes, of course! Love each and every of them! ubu -

That's some goodies! All high on my list, too! Then add: Coltrane, Heavyweight Champion AEC Cecil Taylor, 2 Ts for A Lovely T Monk, Riverside Bill Evans, Riverside Sonny Rollins, Prestige & RCA Mingus, Atlantic Ornette, Atlantic ... Don't think I rate the Mosaics much higher as the others, in general. However, it's the only company with such a big number of generally great sets! ubu -

Glad to see you came to your senses, King Ubu! That Jass CD indeed had a couple of items which were not in the Prez Box. No need for you to come here on your knees. There must be better ways to travel to the City of Light! And when you come, a glass of Cognac - one of Prez's prefered drinks - will be shared between the two of us to honor our beloved President! The only President worthy of our unanimous votes. Prosit I won't forget about the Cognac! Well, on Sunday (August 1), Switzerland celebrates national day... I'll may see "Le charme dicret de la bourgeoisie" to celebrate, or I may listen to Prez, endlessly... ubu -_-

Well, I guess the royal poster will wear sackcloth and ashes for some time, and he might even go to Paris on his knees to apologize to brownie... To make it short, I checked not with the disc, but with my Lester data stuff, and it seems there's no additional material on the Storyville disc, nothing that's not part of that Japanese set. (I think I mixed it up with an -unrelated- Jass disc, "Prez Conferences", which seems to include some items not on the Japanese set, but don't nail me on that now, please!) ubu

One of my favourite Shaw recordings! ubu

Give me a few days... big reorganizing being done here, not only as far as CDs are concerned... bug me about it on the weekend, please, and I'll check - hope I didn't say anything wrong, brownie (on the other hand, that would spare you a few eurozlotys...)! ubu

Well, don't anyone call me lazy... I just checked the Miles Trees Website, and saw that except for items 1) and 2) of the list above, all has been part of a '67 Europe tree. Anyone willing to share? ubu
-
Has this music been part of a tree? Or has it come out on bootleg cds? Heard nothing of that band live (well, except for the Plugged Nickel, but that's pretty early in the game). ubu

Sounds cool, brownie! Just dropped a mail

Which area on this forum do you least visit?

For me, there's none I never visit, but I hardly ever post in the adio or the musician's corner. Seldom in politics, but it does happen... ubu -
Sonny Criss, "Complete Imperial Sessions"
king ubu replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Recommendations
I can't compare the music on this 2CD set with the later and more famous Criss dates, as I haven't explored them yet, but I'd definitely get it! Lots of beautiful music! And there's a few very nice guest spots by the late Barney Kessel, too. ubu -
Maybe because they aren't easy to find? Love them, too! Just in case someone looks for this one: It can still be found on Amazon France. This was my very first Wilen disc, after I'd heard him on the "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud" soundtrack, and I still like it a lot! ubu

Thanks for sharing, Lon! ubu

Got that one recently, I think it was from CDConnection. Should be around... Here it is! (althouth you might want to get it at a cheaper prize...) Some of the tracks on that CD are not even on that Prez live box! ubu

I guess you're correct about Berlusconi/Bossi/Fini etc! However, we just need a large bag, made of thick strong material, catch them all, put them in the bag, and close the bag so noone will be able to open it again. Sure there will come others, if the first few are in that bag, but we'll have another bag ready for the next generation And now we cut it! It gets political indeed! Best we agree on a post-moratorium in this thread until your Mosaic finally arrives... ubu -

Why that gentleman is as nice as Messrs. Haider, Berlusconi, Le Pen, Möllemann (r.i.p.), Fortuyn (sp? r.i.p.)and a few others - I would see NOTHING political about that! Populism has nothing common with politics, populism is for the people, politics not, right? -
i wonder what a soprano saw might be!

This here is the same stuff, I think (although the site I took it from says not):

Just for fun, here's the cover of the Ozone LP with the February '62 recordings: ubu

Funny Rat is an equal opportunity thread. I have to admit, I have never listened to Jelly Roll. does he sound like Herr Broetzmann? Well, I got his RCA 5CD set when it hit the running low list on the Trueblue site. I think it's still there, if not, it has been there for years - I got mine years ago... and haven't listened yet through it all. That Classics I got for 5$ at a used shop, but it's new. Had to go for it. There's some funny kazoo, and - more important - some pretty cool solo piano sides, of course all in awful sound, but very interesting, and often rhythmically daring, to say the least! Now listening to the Rivers LP "Streams" (not mine, hélas!) ubu
