  1. Now you dare starting this thread BEFORE even one of us heady europeans has received the disc?!? Looking forward to it! ubu
  2. How about a bamboo saxophone? Roscoe Mitchell plays such a thing on the "Urban Magic" live CD I'm listening to. Then there would be the one pitched higher than the soprano, which lots of posters sure would like to be banned from our planet ubu
  3. Might be good to have this one in RVG treatment anyway! Glad I did not stand between you and your luck... ubu
  4. Sorry for my help in spreading the AMG schitte! I was at work and remembered my old US CD had a bonus cut, and when I saw that # on AMG I thought that was it. My CD has 1992 US CD has 8 tracks, "They Can't Take That Away From Me" was then previously unissued. Again sorry for the confusion, memory was right, but AMG not ubu
  5. You're waiting for the Mitchell? Be patient and wait - the music will reward you! ubu
  6. Jim, I think the Stan T. has one or two tracks not on LP (I got an old CD of that one). Checked AMG, one it seems: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A5pg9kebtjq7m ubu
  7. I see them in stores in jewel cases, too. ubu
  8. You know, me too knows how to go for the post count, you rockofellatios ubu
  9. Let me make some ballyoo...
  10. For those who followed the discussion of early Bird stuff, and Jay McShann material featuring Bird: the GRP disc is OOP (and I wanted to order it used, but there was some problem, and now it's not available on that site anymore), but there is a Proper 2CD release which includes all (but one, if my short comparison with AMG was right) of the cuts of the GRP disc, as well as several more slightly later dates. Here is the discography of that set: This looks like a very interesting set! Here's the link to the Proper website. ubu
  11. Drop them an email (via the Feedback function of the website) - they'll probably answer you within 24 hours. By the way, I did already receive the Atlantic New Orleans set (only a week for surface shipping! And while customs opened, they failed to take not it's worth is about twice as much as the maximum allowed to import without fees... lucky me, for a change!). After reading the comments about disc 1 and not starting with disc 1 I obviously had to start with disc 1 - and I do like it! Even very much so! Maybe not the stuff you return to every day, but I really like it. No time yet to listen to discs 2-4, but I'm sure I'll like them a lot! ubu
  12. Gary, as I said, "Free Form" is desert island stuff. "Abstract" seems to be just as good. Ask Bev for more, as I don't have it yet. ubu
  13. Rooster, glad to hear you're doing fine! Welcome again! ubu
  14. Babs Gonzalez! Love those early BN sides (thanks to Lon for selling me his duplicate CD a few months ago ) I'm not so sure about Ella. Not sure I really like her scatting. Roberta Gambarini (word did spread a bit, it seems since my first attempt almost a year ago over at that ******** board). ubu
  15. Bev, I'll keep your recommendations in mind! Thanks! Some of the Enjas really look good. jazz1: thanks again very much for making me buy the two hatARTs! I listened to the Rossini live disc finally last night, and this is really good stuff! I like the way they cross over genres, like the arrangements, the humour, and on top of it, there are some good soloists, too. Very enjoyable CDs! Thanks again! ubu
  16. And just for those who have no idea about who Harriott is: he has often been compared to Ornette, and he indeed found to somewhat similar sounds (though far from Ornette's texan blues roots, I think), at the same time, and virtually untouched by Ornette and the US jazz developping freer stylings at the same time. Very interesting, actually, and a point in favor of the "in the air" thing. Must have really been "in the air" back in those days! ubu
  17. Bev, I know "Free Form" for several years, and it really does grow! Interesting point about the semi-classical sensivities of Smythe! I noted this, too. And coupled with the two great and very individual horns, as well as the rhythm section including touches of the West Indies, too, and then the great drummer... this all makes up for an invigorating music! Will look for "Abstract" as soon as funds allow, thanks! ubu
  18. Now who's being shocking?? What I thought ubu
  19. Neither can I! But I managed an exact 200, too! ubu
  20. Pour me one of this any time you like... or make it a Bombay Sapphire... ubu
  21. We heard too little of him, indeed! The few sessions I have with him at the piano are quite beautiful! R.i.p. ubu
  22. Thanks for your interesting post, Bev. "Free Forms" is definitively desert island stuff for me! A fantastic album. Got to get "Abstract" soon. How do you rate Harriott's indo-jazz fusions? I got that Redial CD combining two albums (with Kenny Wheeler aboard on half of it) - does not really work, in my opinion, yet I somehow have a soft spot for it. I think he made another indo-jazz album (reissued on Koch, if I remember right, and probably OOP now) - how does that compare? ubu
  23. 322.9 on first attempt! God ain't that godly anymore, it seems... ubu

    Funny Rat

I picked up "Drip" recently, used, for almost nothing, and I do like it! Tom Rainey is an astonishing drummer, and Scott Colley is, well, Scott Colley. ubu
  25. Thanks, Lon! Sounds even better! ubu
