upcoming jazz crusaders set?
Dave James replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Those of us who straddled the fence on this one look forward to comprehensive reviews from those who didn't. Up over and out. -
Just received this this morning from Spin Records. Sounds like the foot draggers among us will have to look elsewhere for our fix. Hi, thanks for the enquiry. Unfortunately as thing stand at the moment we have full capacity on our pre-orders. We are trying to secure extra copies from the 'Dead' but at the moment this looks unlikely. Keep an eye on spincds.com for any further developments. Many Thanks Steve@Spin Up over and out.

If the New York doesn't make the playoffs, Lou Pinella will be running the show next year. You can take that to the bank. Realistically, if the Yanks don't take 2 of 3 from the Sox this weekend, there will be no AL East pennant. It's that simple. There's just no way they can make up five games with just nineteen left. That leaves the wild card as their only option, but the way Cleveland is playing, that may be an equally steep hill to climb. Up over and out.

I guess it seems crazy to me that when there's this much interest in the Complete Fillmore Recordings, that the Dead folks wouldn't just make more available. It's not like Mosaic where the music is licensed and they can legally only release so many copies. Wishful thinking from a foot dragger, but what's the point of limiting yourself when the market for this is clearly very hot? Up over and out.

Thanks, Tony. I know it's a long shot, but still worth the effort. Up over and out.

I tried to find a Spin Records website, but had no luck. Can anyone provide a link? Up over and out.

I'm massively bummed out. Not only at not getting this essential set, but also by my own procrastination. I was going to wait until October to pull the trigger on this, but it looks like I waited too long. Who'd have figured 10,000 copies would go this fast. Oh well, I guess the upside is I save $80. I'll just look at that as a down payment on the Ray Charles Atlantic box. Up over and out.

Dan, That thing you posted...the Pythagorean thing. Are you just trying to get back at me for the Griffey speculation I floated prior to the trade deadline last week? Up over and out.a

Pepper even tickles the licorice stick on a couple of tunes. "Haunting" is a very appropriate description of this one. Up over and out.

Is the phrase "unnecessary scatting" redundant? Up over and out.

Thanks Albert, but I think most of us recognize SPAM when we see it. Up over and out.

Sure wish they'd extended that 30% off deal until the 20th when the Ray Charles Atlantic sessions are scheduled to be released. Even at Border's inflated prices, that would have made this available at a fairly reasonable cost. Up over and out.

I see where the Yankees donated one million dollars towards relief efforts on the Gulf Coast. Perhaps they should be referred to as "the not-so-evil empire" for at least the time being. Up over and out.

Yeah, but you know how sometimes these deals are actually done, but, for whatever reason, they hold off announcing them. Actually, I was just trying to get all worked up. I don't think this is going to happen either. Up over and out.

Calling Dan Gould, Here's something to keep you up until midnight tonight wringing your hands. You were wondering why the Yanks would sign Mark Bellhorn when they already have a second baseman. Maybe Robinson Cano is part of a bigger game that's afoot. Maybe a game the size of Ken Griffey. Junior said today on ESPN that he would not go to the White Sox. That would seem to leave the door open for his going someplace else. Junior in pinstripes? How sweet would that be? Up over and out.

I'd rather watch paint dry than men's tennis. Once Agassi hangs it up, this is a sport that's just about had it. Is there anyone out there with even a thimbleful of personality? Jimmy, John, Ilie where are you guys? Those heady days seem like 100 years gone. Up over and out.
-
Calling Dan Gould; You must be quaking in your boots. First the Yanks add Wayne Embry and now it looks like Mark Bellhorn is about to sign on with the evil empire. I mean, he's hitting all of one point above the Mendoza Line. How scary is that? Up over and out.

Johnny, You sure can't help but wonder about that, although Giambi's late July and most of August slump would tend to argue against his resumption. Hopefully, this isn't the case. You'd think he would have learned his lesson. David Wells just blasted the Commish by saying that there are lots of guys who are still juicing and everyone knows it, but they're not getting caught. In Giambi's case, he gets tested so often and has such a high doping profile, I'd think it would be doubly difficult for him to be using and not get turfed. Of course, it could be some new undetectable designer steroid or HGH, i.e. drugs for which there is no reliable testing protocol. Up over and out.

Giambi is on fire. Two more home runs tonight, four more RBI's and the game is only in the 6th inning. That's four "see ya's" and 11 plated in two games. Someone is gonna have to hose that boy down with cracked ice. Up over and out.

Matthew, Jeff Leonard? You must mean Jeffrey Leonard. He would not book being called Jeff over the last few years of his career. Also, I'm reminded that Mr. Leonard at some point acquired one of the more memorable nicknames in the entire history of baseball, "Penitentiary Face". Up over and out.

Not something I have to worry about. The threads I start are usually so boring and ill-attended, that for all intents and purposes, they wind up deleting themselves. Up over and out.

Outside of Ted Williams, I think Strawberry had the sweetest swing I've ever seen. Almost effortless...like watching Ernie Els hit a golf ball. Up over and out.

Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode I saw once with Roddy McDowell. Up over and out. -
Jeff Kent is a jerk, but Milton Bradley is a punk. I would not want either of these morons on my team. The Yanks and Boston play six more times. Three in New York on the 10th, 11th and 12th of next month and then the last three games of the season in Boston on September 30th, October 1st and 2nd. That should pretty much hammer things out. Just hope the networks manage to get all six games on the tube. High drama for sure. Curt Shilling has got to have people worried based on last night's outing and several less that stellar closing efforts. That rather un-Shilling like ERA that's currently just south of 7.00 is a telling tale. However, last night on ESPN, Jeff Brantley said fans should not be too focused on outcomes or results right now. Point being, Shilling can still bring on the high heat and throw the nasty splitter, but he needs time to get back in the groove. If you're a Sox fan, you better hope he's right. Shawn Chacon is starting to look like a pretty good pick-up for the Yanks. Now I hear they're looking at Aaron Sele. I thought some of their earlier moves defined desperation (Leiter and Nomo), but if they go after this guy, it's almost like running up a white flag. There simply isn't any gas left in his tank. Up over and out.

I think the majority of us here enjoy jazz vocals, but as Jim points out, the key word here is "jazz". There's lots of stuff out there passing for jazz that couldn't much further from it. Having said that, if I have to make a choice, I much prefer instrumentals. To me, words tend to get in the way of the music and the music is why I'm listening in the first place. The only kind of vocals I absolutely refuse to listen to are scats and vocalese. Really don't care for those approaches at all. But an hour of so spent with the likes of Billie, Anita O'Day, Helen Merrill, June Christy or, yes, even the Four Freshman, is time well spent. HB - As I'm sure has been mentioned before, Ben Webster used to say you couldn't really play a ballad unless you knew the words to the tune. Up over and out.
