  1. Jim, Ever heard "Dodgers" by bassist/singer Jay Leonhart? Pretty good baseball song. It's from his album "LIfe Out On The Road.:

  5. Wow. If it was April 1st, I'd think this was a joke. That is truly amazing.
  6. For some time now, I've made it a point not to be associated with anything that involves intelligence.
  7. Sure wish Scott would join Organissimo. We haven't had an insider like that since Tom Evered was part of the old BNBB.
  8. ESPN is reporting that the Sox have offered the job to Valentine. Two things. First, 2012 will be very interesting in Bean Town and second, Dan will be in the market for a new favorite team.
  9. What he said. I've been forced to use a Dell laptop for that last week while my Mac has its oil changed. I really dislike the whole Windows experience.
  10. According to ESPN Boston, the choice for the next manager of the Red Sox is down to either Bobby Valentine or Gene Lamont. Everyone knows Valentine. Lamont has been Jim Leyland's third base coach in Detroit for the last few years. He's 65 years old and has managed in the majors before. Supposably, a final decision will be made no later than next Monday.
  11. Isn't this Amy soloing at around the 2:30 mark?
  12. Same here. LTB brined the turkey overnight and then cooked it on the Big Green Egg. Moistest turkey ever. We did the same thing and it turned out great. Like you say, extremely moist. Kosher salt, brown sugar, whole peppercorns and bay leaves went into the concoction.
  13. My initial reaction when I first looked at this picture was that is was Paul Newman playing Henry Gondorf in "The Sting".
  14. You can officially add #5 Oklahoma to that list.
  15. So - does a ball that goes exactly over the top of a goal post count as a FG or not? Half the ball has passed over the crossbar, and half hasn't. In other words, did Oklahoma State get robbed yesterday or was that a good call? I thought it was a good call. It looked like the ball passed directly over the right upright spinning end over end as any well struck kick will do. If the goalpost was another six feet high, I suppose it's theoretically possible that it could have struck the upright and fallen through over the crossbar. Unfortunately, that's something we'll never know. It was a lot more important last night but since USC is knocking down Oregon and stealing their lunch money at Autzen tonight, it won't make the sort of difference I thought it would.
  16. Keep in mind that the ball at some point must pass over the crossbar, i.e. if a ball hits the upright and bounces over the crossbar, the kick is good. When the ball is kicked so high that it can't pass over the crossbar, then under no circumstances can it be good.
  17. BIg fan of LLS here, especially his recordings with The Cosmic Echoes. IMO, the very best of the so-called "chill jazz" genre. Expansions and Visions Of A New World on Flying Dutchman are easily my favorites. Really dense and layered music. Lots of fun with a good set of headphones.
  18. Did you see that the plane that was carrying the OSU women's basketball coach and his assistant was 50 years old and that the pilot was 82? Talk about running a program on a shoestring. Bet the OSU men's coaches don't travel that way. T. Boone Pickens has sunk so much money into that program, you'd think they might have a set aside a few extra shekels to put towards decent travel accommodations especially considering that this isn't the first time the University has experienced a air related tragedy.
  19. The goal posts extend upward to infinity. If the ball is not inside them, then the kick is not good. The way I saw it, the ball passed right over the top of the right post.
  20. Call me Scrooge if you will, but this is exactly the sort of behavior that makes the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is my least favorite time of the year. The whole scene is a study in avarice. Buy, buy, buy. Give, give, give. Get, get, get. IMO, among the worst elements of human nature. I'm not sure how it got so far out of hand, but out of hand it is and I'll have as little of it as possible. Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy the familial aspects of the season, especially during Thanksgiving which, as yet, the retailers have been unable to co-opt. It's the other elements that turn me off. Way off.
  21. Looks like there another situation bubbling up at Syracuse involving Bernie Fine, one of their assistant basketball coaches.
  22. Talk about Bobby Valentine becoming the next Red Sox manager appears to be heating up. Seems to me he's the sort of no nonsense guy this team needs. Wonder if Dan is around and willing to weigh in on this. Not that I wish for anything good for Boston, mind you, but this might be precisely what the doctor ordered.
  23. Foyle's War is first rate. Michael Kitchen is a marvel in his role as the title character, as is Honeysuckle Weeks as Sam Stewart. Great stories even if they're sometimes too clever by half. For a WWII buff such as myself, perfect. I've yet to see an episode of this series that I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
  24. Brad, You are correct, sir.
