  1. No thanks to him. In the 2009 post-season, Teixeira hit .167 in the ALDS, .222 in the ALCS and .136 in the World Series.
  2. Mark Teixeira finished June with 25 home runs and 63 RBI's, a .243 average, .351 on-base percentage and .541 slugging percentage. Those numbers have dropped dramatically in July, as he is hitting .238 with no home runs and only four RBI's in the first 16 games of the month. His on-base percentage is .314 and he's slugging an anemic .302, further evidence of a power outage. More great news. This has all the earmarks of another questionable long term investment. Teixeira has 5 1/2 years left on a $180 million deal. Swell.
  3. I find him much more listenable early on. The Mosaic box is a good example. For some reason, he changed his tune (so to speak) as he got older.
  4. I poked around a bit on the 'net, interested in finding out the extent of Rooney's musical abilities. Just like Sammy Davis, Jr. he appears to have been a man of many talents. According to this article My link, he actually played the drums in "The Strip." I've also found references to his piano playing that liken him to Errol Garner. Interestingly enough, at one time he endorsed Slingerland drums.
  5. I have a hard time seeing Elisha Cook, Jr. as a hep cat, lady's man. For me, he'll forever be typecast as the cheap gunsel, Wilmer, in The Maltese Falcon. Also, I can't find a clip from The Strip of MIckey Rooney playing the drums, but I'd say it isn't the first time he spent time behind a trap set. Cook, on the other hand, looks like he's in, and I mean way in, over his head.
  6. Featuring the lovely Priscilla Lane, probably most famous for playing Cary Grant's fiancee in Arsenic & Old Lace.
  7. In the original Star Trek television series, behavior like this would warrant an extraordinary competency hearing. I call upon our board administrators to consider similar sanctions.
  8. Today, July 17th, marks the 70th anniversary of the end of Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak. He went 0-3 with a walk and was robbed twice by Cleveland third baseman, Ken Keltner. During the streak, he hit .408 (91 for 223), with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.
  9. Bruce Weber's Let's Get Lost.
  10. I can't figure out why the New York press isn't dropping a size 16EEE shoe on Mark Teixeira. I know he's hitting home runs and knocks in his share of runs, but during the month of June and so far this July, a span covering 194 AB's, he's hitting .215. Imagine paying a guy this kind of money for hitting at the Mendoza line. Nice work if you can get it.
  11. You clearly didn't look very close. Either that, or I'm on your ignore list. P.S. Still waiting for my Tolliver. Your post was on the sound samples thread. I didn't check that one. Besides, you only referenced the Tolliver release, not the Lunceford or the Rivers. So, it was 2/3'rds deficient. As a result, I only feel 1/3 as bad.
  12. I've got that bad boy out in the garage. I should probably find it and bring it indoors.
  13. Chuck, Let's just say I took one for the team.
  14. I don't want to seem petulant, insecure, childish or unappreciative (all of which I am) but is there anyone else out there who could live without the annual board-certified birthday announcements? Do I wish those who are having a birthday a happy one? Of course I do. Do I need to post a message once a year acknowledging this to be the case or would not doing so somehow indicate that I, for whatever reason, had begun whistling a different tune? Of course not. So, I'm throwing this thought up against the wall for purposes of assessing its sticking power. To determine if such a suggestion is just too curmudgeonly Scrooge-like to even consider. Any thoughts?
  15. So did you play it? I don't blame him for asking. One of my favorite C&W songs, right behind Merle Haggard's It's All In The Movies.
  16. Clemens update. Judge declares mistrial. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/15/sports/baseball/clemens-judge-declares-mistrial.html?_r=1&emc=na
  17. I considered the existence of the other thread and even checked to see if anyone had posted about the release. I found nothing and since that thread was more focused on a discussion of the music, who did the mastering, that sort of pre-release chatter, I thought that rather than bury what some would consider important news, I would put up a brand new thread. Right? Wrong? Who's to say? If you want to merge them I have no problem with that.
  18. Just got an e-mail from Mosaic indicating that the Lunceford, Rivers and Tolliver sets are now shipping. I haven't ordered any of these yet, but I'm sure many of you have. Well, start counting the days 'cause they're on their way.
  19. The first time I ever laid eyes on Rusty Hardin, I thought he was a total dipstick. Good luck, Roger, putting your future in the hands of this guy.
  20. Seconded. I may have boring, pedestrian hard-bop tastes but this is the indispensible Herbie-on-BN for me. DItto.
  21. Here's a pretty cool animated schematic illustrating the growth of the International Space Station between 1998-2008. http://i.usatoday.net/tech/graphics/iss_timeline/flash.htm
  22. BIg to do in Yankee land about whether Derek Jeter should be included among the top 5 Yankees of all time. Personally, I don't see it. Top 10, maybe, but that's it. My top 5: 1. Ruth 2. Gehrig 3. Mantle 4. DiMaggio 5. Berra. You might argue with the positioning (3. and 4. are interchangeable) but I don't see how you can argue the names.
  23. Forget about Aramis Ramirez as an A-Rod replacement. He has a $16 million club option for next year that turns into a player option if he's traded.
  24. I know the Yankees have been scouting Amaris Ramirez from the Cubs as a possible trade deadline pick-up, so A-Rod's injury could put that move into the "likely" category as opposed to just a "maybe".
  25. An OK Old Vine California Zinfandel incorporating the contributions of seven different vintners operating under the aegis of Seven Deadly Zins. In my immediate future I see a Bombay Sapphire dirty martini or two. Stirred not shaken.
