  2. I'd think so, too! I rang them up to ask and that's the answer I got, and the guy even had the guts to add: "and now, what exactly is your question?" - ha! No use debating with someone like that! The fees they add here are about the same, but around 50€ is tax- and fee-free (same if it's Europe or overseas though, as we're not part of the former either). Jazzmessengers can be asked about the declaration value, too, btw - only did it once so far and it worked fine, now I'm waiting for the Threadgill from them (Mosaic says "second half of 2013", that can mean nearly another year of waiting, which I'm not patient enough for right now, sorry!) Oh, can big box sets also be on backorder? I somehow assumed only Selects weren't pressed all at once. Like the Pullen sets' masters being destroyed before reaching the 5000 limit?
  3. The mosaic customs declaration on both the defective and replacement orders listed a value of only $35. Not enough for Dutch customs to bother on both occasions, though a few Euros above the limit. When they do charge you for a €25 import all sorts of administrative costs are added and you are presented with a bill of never less than about €13. If Mosaic always declare a value near $100 too low on customs declarations, I'll keep taking my changes ordering from the US. Making people pay for a routine check when no customs duties are due is preposterous. Aren't these civil servants' wages already payed out of tax payers' money?
  4. Today the replacement arrived in good order (number 2405, the damaged set had number 400).
  5. PM sent (yesterday) on Dolphy box.

  7. Keep in mind that it can take a while for a package to cross the pond and be delivered. The other way around I usually get packages from the United States within 10-14 days, but sometimes it takes longer - at the moment I'm still waiting for a set that was mailed on December 26... I'm waiting for a package from Amazon UK that was shipped 2 weeks ago. OTOH, I received a package from The Netherlands (from subdist.com) in a week. This month a package containing books from Amazon UK (not third party) I ordered with Free Super Saver Delivery was actually lost in transit. A first for me. Of course they promptly send me a replacement with expedited shipping. The lost package's last known location was Grimbergen, Belgium. I wonder if it'll ever arrive in The Netherlands and what it was doing in Belgium in the first place.

  9. Ah, thanks. After downing close to a bottle of Medoc over dinner I felt a bit of a paranoid reflex setting on.
  10. The DVD that came with Vol.1 was region-free (and NTSC unfortunately, to my eyes PAL is better) and I think it's very likely this one will be too. And one track, Walkin', included in the Complete Columbia Album Collection was excised for undoubtedly no good reason. I read somewhere something to do with the Carpenter estate, a person only credited with composing the song in question? Still pisses off. a dick is a dick is a dick ... ?

  12. Thanks for the tip.
  13. From wikipedia: A tussenvoegsel is a word that is positioned between a person's first and last name. The most common tussenvoegsels are "van" (as in Dick van Dyke) meaning "from" and "de" (as in Greg de Vries), meaning "the". Most Dutch surnames include no tussenvoegsel.
  14. How likely are these Analogue Productions SACDs to go out of print soon? I own a couple, but would like to buy a few more of the Blue Note, Impulse! and Verve titles.
  15. Justified season 4. Still great. What a contrast with that new FOX show, The Following. Just awful.
  16. From www.platomania.eu. Surely a 2 cd digipack can be shipped for €6 in a bubble mailer (what they use when shipping domestic)? Wereld/World (outside Europe): The fee to deliver your order outside of Europe depends on the type and amount of products you are purchasing. 1-3 cd's = € 6,- More than 3 cd's and all lp's/dvd's, etc.: Up to 500 grams = € 10,- Between 500 grams and 2 kilos = € 20,- More than 2 kilos = € 35,- Orders with more than one item will be send when the order is complete. Just checked Platomania's website and saw those shipping rates. If ordered from them the total for the set including shipping to Australia would be 28.99 euros and I don't find that obscenely expensive. I don't read German. Do you have to open an account on their website? Do they accept PayPal? Creditcards: Visa, Mastercard Registreren is Dutch for to register (upper right corner).
