  1. New Herd Orchestra with Masahiko Sato and Masahiko Togashi "eternity-epos" (polydor, Japan). A percussive-heavy album I used to own many years ago but sold..only to regret it years later. Found another copy recently...perhaps not a "stunning" album but good enough that I'm glad I have it again!
  2. Thanks for the kind words; glad you enjoyed. #9 has already been identified as Helen Merrill. #2 is not Joe Henderson but that's a good guess as it certainly has a similiar feel to some Henderson tunes around that era!
  3. It is not from that particular album... Nope! Yup! Agreed a great album..one day I'll splurge on a first pressing... Another correct ID; yes I'm guilty of having many ECM Records Correct again. Yes could not resist it, but I chose the least obvious example I could think of to include some Sato and Togashi! Just one bass, and the bassist is not the leader of this date. Not NHOP.
  4. Not Feldman! Track 4 is not Walt Dickerson but a good guess! Track 5 not quite haha. Yes track 8 is indeed the fantastic Rendell/Carr quintet from "Change is"..kudos, but I knew you'd get that one Track 10 has been identified already and yup it's a Savoy with Hank Jones but the trumpet player is Nat - not Donald Track 11 has a little Nordic blood in it... Track 3 does have Steve Lacy on it..so a good start..the other names thrown out are not on this track however Track 5 is not Archie Shepp Track 11 does indeed feature Surman! Reminds you of Vitous-era Weather Report huh? Hmmmm... Glad you liked this BFT...appreciate the kind words and great story about the Benton album!!! That's close but it's not from that particular album....a bit confusing I'll admit because this version is taken from a different Japanese album recorded around the same time but with some different support players.
  5. Hank Jones is correct! It's been identified already by Jim; it's a tune off "that's Nat" by Nat Adderley featuring Jerome Richardson on flute. Good ears and guess on the era as well!
  6. Impressive! Correct on all three! You have to name the Merrill tune and album it's from now...;)
  7. http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/ Above is the link; hopefully everybody who participates will find at least a few enjoyable tracks and/or surprises!
  8. Hello! It's under 80 mins and has something for all tastes(at least I think so!). Link will be posted shortly....hope some of you can find the time to give it a listen!
  9. I bought that reissue when it came out; was so happy to save $500 on an original! Have the cd of this and the India navigation album; have not played them in years! Should dust them off some day...
  10. Jimmy Woods sextet "conflict" (contemporary, mono white label promo DG)
  11. That is crazy!! This discussion of HMV pressings vs Impulse pressings is making me feel like I'm reading a Steve Hoffmann forum! All I can say is that the few clean original Impulse pressings I have all sound fantastic. Right now: Gerd Dudek & Takehira Honda "flying to the sky" (Trio, Japan) great session with some impressive support by Gunter Lenz and Motohiko Hino.
  12. Glad it showed up ok! I think side two was particularly cool; never heard the futura album unfortunately.
  13. Don Ellis "new ideas" (new jazz, DG USA) Oliver Nelson "meet Oliver Nelson" (New jazz, DG USA) James Clay "double dose of soul" (riverside, mono DG USA)
  14. Ah yes the "choloagogues"(spelling?) is in the racks too...have not played these records in a long time!
  15. Nice one. Have not played my copy in around 15 years. Bought it around the same time that I got "whirled music" and the Alterations album on Bead. All sort of in the same bag if memory serves. The David Lee album is a good score!!
  16. Sad to hear. Never did get into his Table of the Elements releases from the 90s on table of the elements, but have long enjoyed the LP with Faust..still have my NM original I bought in the early 90s.
  17. Dropped $1400 Canadian today at my retired friend's house; continuing my dig through his collection. That got me 21 albums but it included J.R.Monterose on Lexington Blue Note, a black label "giant steps", and many more New Jazz, Riverside, and Blue Notes all in excellent condition. First spins from the pile tonight are: Julius Wechter 4tet "linear sketches" (jazz west, DG USA) Bennie Green "soul stirrin" (Blue Note, 47w63rd no "r" mono) Tubby Hayes "return visit" (Fontana, UK) Art Blakey jazz messengers "live at cafe Bohemia vol.1" (blue note, Lexington USA)
  18. Long session tonight. Masabumi Kikuchi "matrix" (Victor, Japan reissue) Carlos Santana/John McLaughlin/Larry Young "love devotion surrender" (Columbia, USA quadraphonic pressing) Stanley Turrentine "up at mintons vol.1" (blue note, ny/47w63rd hybrid mono "ear") Azimuth "s/t" (ECM, Germany) love this album..took me about 3 copies to find a mint one with no lamination peels or crackles/pops
  19. Rena Rama "with Marilyn Mazur" (dragon, Sweden) Sabu Toyozumi/Mototeru Takagi "if ocean is broken" (qbico, ?). Bought this when it came out but don't think I ever even listened to the whole thing. Scratching my head why as I play it because it's amazing!
  20. I have this record; it's good! Now playing: Hans Reichel/Eroc "kino" (Teldec, Germany)
  21. Sad news. Was a big fan of the Larry Sanders show..
  22. Takeo Uematsu "debut" (three blind mice, Japan) Kosuke Mine "out of chaos" (east wind, Japan)
  23. Good to know there's still stuff buried out there waiting to surface one day..just when you think everything's been reissued!!
