  1. I forgot - I do have a mint copy of the America LP! Too many records...
  2. Shadowgraph is a very fine record; have not played it in over 10 years. A nice reminder to pull it out one day. I recall not liking it quite as much as "homage to Charlie Parker" though.. I should pick up those Clifford Thornton records on Third World one day I only have the BYG and "gardens of Harlem" albums. Now spinning: Grant Green "Sunday morning" (blue note, NY stereo ear)
  3. Felser; I'll check out those last two albums. At the "green" concert I saw I remember they played quite a few songs from "life's Rich pageant".
  4. Nice article; thanks. My older sister was a fan so I became aware of them when "document" came out. Finally saw them live on the "Green" tour at the age of 15. For me "green" was their last decent album so I was happy to have caught them live at that moment!
  5. Joe Henderson "Henderson's Habiliment" (Victor, Japan) original issue of the "live in Japan" milestone album...fantastic album! Benny Bailey "soul eyes" (Saba, Germany) finally caved in and bought an original..*slightly* less then the going rate but not by much
  6. Jealous! Spent a week in Iceland during the winter about 8 years ago or so...beautiful country with a unique atmosphere. Saw an incredible display of the northern lights off a fjord at the northern part of the country...
  7. Kenny Clarke "Bohemia after dark" (savoy, Canadian pressing but has original B&W laminated cover)
  8. Both "the hip walk" and "happy girl" are tremendous albums; I've enjoyed them for many years! Highly recommended...Larry Young is the pianist on "happy girl".
  9. John Coltrane "Africa brass" (Impulse, stereo AMPAR USA) John Coltrane "meditations" (Impulse, stereo paramount USA) "Meditations" is actually the latest Coltrane album that I really love.
  10. Ugh stupid amazon Canada! Preordered the 2LP version like 2 months ago and get an "unable to source item - do you wish to cancel order" type of email from them this morning!!! Immediately canceled and reordered it from a secondary UK seller via Amazon that claimed 6 copies were in stock. So much for getting it early
  11. Loren Mazzacane & Kath Bloom "sand in my shoes" (St.Joan, USA) Loren Mazzacane & Kath Bloom "sing the children over"(Ambiguos, USA). Have not played these albums in many years...the Ambiguous album has liner notes by Nat Hentoff!!
  12. Great album but I don't find it to be one of the better sounding Blue Note sessions. Something about the recording seems off to me...
  13. In my defence it was only 2 discs by about 1 or 2 mins I think it was just over 80! But yeah I'll try to keep it around an hour next time
  14. I used to have a stereo "new York USA" pressing that had the "ear". I sold it along with my mono "ear" copy. Anyway sounds like a Liberty era pressing with left over NY labels. But yeah the original stereo pressing does exist with "ear"...I used to have one!
  15. I only have two Guy Warren records - "Afro jazz" and "African soundz"...both with Amancio D'Silva on guitar and from the late 60s/early 70s I believe..I'll have to keep an eye out for the one you mention with Earl Griffith. Funny..as much as I love free jazz, my favorite CT stuff is the early records like the aforementioned Contemporary album and the Candid and United Artist ones..not a huge fan of the 30 min marathons from the 70s onwards. The Blue notes are about the last ones I really enjoy although I do have a sampling of 70s-90s efforts just to revisit whenever..
  16. All I can say is that I think Earl really shines on "looking ahead" as well...great album.
  17. Herbie Hancock "takin off" (Blue Note, mono NY ear) Jackie McLean "destination out" (Blue Note, mono NY ear). It took me about 5 copies and a few mix and match, but I finally have a perfect sounding copy with pristine cover. Sort of obsessive on my part, but this remains one of my top 5 or so Blue Notes..incredible band and incredible tunes!
  18. Jean-Luc Ponty & Masahiko Sato "astrorama" (Liberty white label promo, Japan). Have not played this in many years..sounds so much better through my recent amplifier upgrade(as do all my records actually)
  19. A good friend of mine ripped all his cds(around 2500) to hard drives a few years ago and now has a computer next to his stereo where he plays all his CDs from. It's really convenient but I can't see myself ever getting time to do this..especially with a wife and two little kids! The whole vinyl vs. CD debate is so boring..who cares? Whatever you prefer go for it. I can't hear a difference between my XRCD of "soul station" and my Music Matters 33rpm version. Both sound superb on my system. Could the difference be measured scientifically? Probably but I could care less...got better things to do!!
