  1. Cool! My stereo ear copy of "in n out" has Joe's autograph on the back. the pressing bubble is a bit of a bummer, but the record is like brand new and has tremendous fidelity..so I'd almost rather have this then more consistent surface crackling or groove distortion. So tough to find blue notes dead clean!
  2. Joe Henderson "our thing" (blue note, NY mono ear) absolute pristine copy but alas the dreaded pressing bubble...3 distinct little pops in like 5 seconds or so disturb an otherwise sublime playback Good thing I have the recent Japanese SHM CD as well!
  3. Or to make them leave I used to own a mint copy of this over 15 years ago but got rid of it..my favorite album from version one is actually the folky OHR but I didn't even keep that one when I did a major krautrock purge years ago. Did keep my mint German "yeti" on Liberty though..that's a monster no question!
  4. "Fury road" looks pretty stunning in 3D. As for regular blu rays; I think "the dark knight rises" looks amazing on my panasonic plasma.
  5. Hey so do I!! An older 46" plasma downstairs for the whole family and a newer 50" 3D plasma (one of the last models they made before stopping production of plasmas) upstairs in my man cave/music room.
  6. Don't see that one every day! I've never heard it..worth seeking out? Guess it's on some blog somewhere on the internet like everything else these days! Now playing: Atilla Zoller 4tet "the horizon beyond" (emarcy, DG mono). I've had this album for at least 20 years and have not played it in almost as long. A shame..a really fascinating album! Too many records..not enough time
  7. Mine is deep groove side one too, but it exists as a deep groove on both sides too. I know because another local friend of mine owns one. He claims the DG both sides is a true original, but my copy is a stamped review copy so who's to know for sure? Anyway the copy I bought looks like brand new so I'm a happy camper I could not afford his original Tempo "progress report" unfortunately!
  8. Nice! Inspired me to spin my DG mono copy just now..great album!
  9. Hank Mobley "roll call" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono). After years of trying to find a reasonably priced copy, I was ecstatic when an older friend of mine let me "dig" through his collection a bit this afternoon. This was a stamped review copy in pristine condition and he let me have it for a fraction of recent eBay prices Also picked up a nice mono original of Booker Little's album on Time for a really good price so that's up next on the turntable!
  10. Tonight's playlist: Weldon Irvine "time capsule" (nodlew, USA orig) Joe Henderson "the kicker" (Milestone, blue label orig) Sam Rivers "contours" (Blue Note, NY USA mono audition copy)
  11. It's cool but not "amazing"; worth picking up if you see it for not too much dough
  12. Aaaah! Glad you found a copy; did it break the bank!? amazing album... I love that prospective series. Was really fortunate around 7-8 years ago when a local record store got in a huge classical collection and the complete series was in the collection. Filled in a ton of gaps for cheap; and they were all in virtually unplayed condition! I only have the Calig album with Manfred Eicher on bass and liner notes by Florian Fricke(!!)
  13. John Coltrane "Coltrane" (Impulse, stereo AM-PAR 1st issue). One of my favorite Coltrane albums ever.
  14. I have their first 3 albums; personal fave was always "fingerprince".
  15. Sorry yes you're right it's a matte flip back sleeve; confused it with the laminated "ghetto lullaby" I also picked up...strangely priced at $12! Guess the store liked that album more..
  16. Lawrence Marable 4tet w/James Clay "tenorman" (jazz west/Toshiba, Japan mono). An older friend of mine has two(!!) original pressings of this album. I didn't feel like paying him $700 for his VG+ spare so I bought this nice reissue for $25 instead! George Otsuka 5 "Go on" (three blind mice, Japan). Great 1972 session. Jackie McLean "live at Montmartre" (steeplechase, Denmark). A rare local record store find; $6 (that's like $3.75 usd now) for a NM laminated Danish original..gives me hope local stores aren't entirely pointless.
  17. Wow! Have the Colbeck on original LP and also the SME on the first Chronoscope CD version, but still quite tempted to order these new editions! Will definitely pick up the Lowther title and perhaps the Weston which I'm not familiar with...
  18. So many good Paul Bley albums. One of my personal favorite session is the one with Surman, Oxley, and Peacock that resulted in two staggering CDs : "in the rivers out there" and "adventure playground". What I wouldn't give for deluxe German double LP vinyl pressings of those!!
  19. I bought that book as soon as it came out; a fascinating read!
  20. If this is true then sad news indeed. I own many of his recordings..a versatile musician much like some of my other favorites (Lacy, Wheeler, Waldron, Togashi, etc).
  21. Masahiko Satoh/Gary Peacock/Masahiko Togashi "wave II" (paddlewheel, Japan). All compositions by Peacock; I've owned the "wave I" CD for many years and finally tracked down this second outing by this amazing trio. Fantastic production too but that's not really a surprise. Joe Henderson "Henderson's Habiliment" (Victor, Japan) the original gatefold Japanese issue of the more common Milestone release known as "live in Japan". A stunning concert with Henderson in peak form!
