  1. When you fall below 12, you use up your remaining downloads on tracks from an album you want to complete next month and are seemingly not penalized for completing the purchase in the following month. Or you find some BIS classical, (or other track pricing holdouts) for now.
  2. Ugh. I'm staying, but I'll soon downgrade to the minimum plan. If they plop the DIW catalog out there post haste, I may remain at the current plan. If they apply album pricing to Chronological Classics where I really want it, I may remain on current plan. But they made lots of things worse and not very many better. I hope it's better for the artists and indie labels. It's not for me. Only the ability to redownload past downloads justifies remaining at all. Naxos was a happy hunting ground before album pricing, now it's overpriced. I gues I should grab all the BIS classical I can while it's still track priced.
  3. I recommend you get a separate enclosure and put an internal hard drive in it. The externals have a high failure rate and the failures are in the enclosure, not the hard drive. This saves you a later choice of whether to void the warranty in an effort to save the data. We have used three different brand names and have had failures in each (Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor).
  4. Barbara Dennerlein Duo - 10th anniversary concert Bill Heid - Asian Persuasion (first 7 tracks, awaiting refresh)
  5. Ther original albums from Talking Book through Songs In the Key of Life are absolutely essential. You do need That Girl and Do I Do which are compilation only tracks, so if this has both, then maybe a good way to go, but first time buyers are advised to get Innervisions, Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life and Fulfillingness First Finale in that order, then supplement with Original Musiquarium or Song Review. Right now I'm not sure what the best option to get the early songs like Signed Sealed and Delivered is.
  6. Umm, a guy named John Lennon fits in there somewhere. No dis to Michael to note that Lennon's legacy was larger in both scope and volume. Let's not undervalue Quincy Jones contribution to Jackson's adult period. But make no mistake, a great and tortured soul has passed.
  7. Picked up 10th Anniversary: It's Magic from eMusic and I am very impressed. Wailin', not particularly reminiscent of either Jimmy Smith or Larry Young. Some rock went into it, but definitely not rock. Not too many organ duos out there.
  8. I am quite willing to trash the title as sensationalist and unnecessarily accusitive. Anything with a timeless quality that is preserved at all is not destroyed. One of these days I may or may not read the book. The Beatles did not destroy Rock 'n Roll. Neither did the Seeds, the Monkees or even the Archies. Interesting that rock 'n roll does not figure in the chapter subjects until chapter 13 of 17.
  9. I just put on a 1991 date with Mal Waldron this morning, beautiful and on a level with the Mal Waldron - Marion Brown duets. Wonder if the daughter from the US was Monday Michiru? Thanks for the music.
  10. Enja too, and some of the remastered Fantasy's.
  11. Maybe Art should have dated Mother Teresa??? Laurie kept Art alive and functioning. Thank goodness she had enough flaws and failings that she didn't know she could do better.
  12. Well, disk three is piano trio stuff, but the first two disks are gold. Not criticizing disk three, just admitting I never get around to playing it.
  13. Anybody who covers Herbie Nichols gets a listen from me. I think that's on Take Your Pick, which I recommend.
  14. I caught the first set of McCoy Tyner's group with George Adams at Philly's Bijou Cafe, but had to leave to do a college radio show before the second set. Word soon reached me of a spectacular twenty minute duet between McCoy and George on My One and Only Love. Serious bummer to have missed that. Their Select is my favorite Mosaic.
  15. I'm hanging in, but I'll pick up the pace of redownloading items from my 2x 2K club heyday. It could be the beginning of the end, but it's not the end just yet. Black Saint/Soul Note was a lot of fun, as has been the whole experience. It will be a pleasant surprise if they dig out some long OOP DIW titles.
  16. But while we've brought the subject of Jack Wilson back up, anybody heard The Jazz Organs. There are about three rarities that I haven't had a chance to hear, that's one.
  17. I did go looking for Charles Davis and found only Eddie Gale - where Charles Davis was one of the Noble Gale Singers. I decided that was unlikely to be the same Charles Davis. Is there a Blue Note with Charles Davis playing (baritone) sax?
  18. I was surprised not to find any Blue Notes with Bob Cunningham with a quick google. Cunningham and Boykins were the two I thought likely, but not confirmed.
  19. As I was listening to the first Andrew Hill Mosaic Select this morning, I stumbled on this trivia question. My only answers so far are John Gilmore, Pat Patrick, Don Cherry and Vic Sproles. Enjoy.
  20. Three new old Arabesques appeared, mislabeled as Various Artists, so search by Title. Charles McPherson - Come Play with Me Horace Tapscott - aiee! the Phantom Billy Hart - Oceans of Time
  21. Wonder if time and new material changes that assessment. I'm quite blown away by Phases of the Night, the latest by this trio.
  22. I believe download links are prohibited on this board. We appreciate you bringing this album to our attention, but wouldn't want the board hosts to get into copyright trouble. I hope you can edit the post and remove the link.
  23. Do you feel the same way about Eyges with Arthur Blythe, CT? I've always enjoyed those sets, havent heard Byard with Eyges.
  24. Discovered through the wonders of Google.
