  2. Sangoma Everett, Chico Freeman, Mal Waldron, Cecil McBee, Sam Ateba - The Courage to Listen to Your Heart The band on this one has me ready to grab the eMusic downloads. OOPS that's Montreux, not Monterey. I'll repost somewhere more appropriate.
  3. Welcome Frank_Son. We not only remember, we would love to hear any tidbits about Frank as a person. I remember we had quite a long thread going when the son of mainstream tenorist Billy Root joined us for a while.
  4. Haven't heard any of his work, any comments and/or confirmation?
  5. The highly regarded two volumes of Earl Hines plays Duke on New World are available now.
  6. 4 days later 2 Jimmie Spheeris titles pop up on eMusic. Remember seeing the covers, not sure I ever heard any.
  7. Huge Acrobat Music Ltd. catalog just dropped on eMusic today with 29 different Louis Armstrong offerings. 10 Volumes of Classic Song Book, 10 volumes of A Life in Music and assorted offerings including 2 with the Mills Brothers. I had been looking for the song My Walking Stick in any version for some time, so I'm grabbing A Night with the Mills Brothers first. I'd be interested to know more about the rest. Some other artists with two or more Acrobat Music Ltd. CDs listed include Coleman Hawkins, Albert Ammons, Mary Lou Williams, Mildred Bailey, Jimmie Lunceford, Charlie Barnet and Ben Webster.
  8. Time Zones wasn't recorded for Arista, just reissued there.

  10. Freedom Sounds - Jazz Crusaders A Change has got to come - Sam Cooke - could work instrumentally Peace Train - Cat Stevens - has advantage of familiarity, people will "get it" and, in response to audience requests FREE BIRD!!!
  11. But seriously folks, I'm pretty sure jazz is an overall positive association these days. Like Shakespeare or Tolstoy, you don't actually have to like the stuff to give some mental props to someone who appears sincere in dropping the names. Joe America just figures he's knowledgeable in a field that Joe hasn't bothered to check out.
  12. Advisors asked that he not mention Peter Brotzman to avoid unneeded Bill Clinton associations
  13. No, they just wait around to be paid twice the agreed amount. Get over it, Allen.
  14. Has anybody seen the session with Eddie Jefferson on CD. Eddie got further out than Joe Lee Wilson or Leon Thomas ever did! It came out on Chiaroscuro of all labels. The title is Kevin, My Dear Son.
  15. It may have been here that I read that Webster was on call in case Lee Morgan couldn't make Grachan Moncur's Evolution record date. Fine player.
  16. I've got a new one called The Geri Allen Trio that allmusic.com lists as Some Aspects of Water. Very fine. It's live and Johnny Coles is introduced as the guest on a top notch ballad. There are more tracks with a larger group a nonet featuring Scandanavian sounding names. On Storyville and I finally figured out that it's Palle Danielson and Lenny White on the trio tracks. (ECM meets CTI!)
  17. "As a USENET discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. Gee, let's start a new Kenny Burrell thread!
  18. Hoping it shows on eMusic soon. Most, but not all Clean Feed releases do. Still missing the James Finn.
  19. Flying out tonight. On June 21 and 22 I'll be playing in the Binions Classic (results posted within a day or three) On June 24th I'll be playing the World Series of Poker Event 43 - Pot Limit Omaha High-Low: and if I make the final table there will be live video here or here on June 26: No plans to play the Main Event starting July 3rd this year. Randy H
  20. Amalia Rodriguez and Don Byas - Encontro is up on eMusic, and I'm intrigued. I don't know anything about Fado, but Byas could play the telephone book as long as he played it real slow! Anybody heard this one?
