Good idea!
-
That was insane.

Yeppers... not sure where to get it, though.

Oops! The server change is not until midnight... damn... I need to get my facts straigh! All right, y'all got about 55 minutes to GO CRAZY!
-
I'm shutting her down in 5 minutes.
-
You don't like it? The red envelope means "hot" topic, so I wanted something that conveyed that... I was looking for a little "flame" but could find anything. If y'all don't like it, I can change it back.

That's a line amp, though. Not a mic amp. I don't think it would have enough gain for a microphone.

I have everything backed up and will back it up again prior to upgrading. Before I tried upgrading on Monday I backed everything up and I'm glad I did because I could not install the new software. Had I not backed everything up here on my machine, this board wouldn't be up right now!

Just got confirmation. I will shut the board down tonight at 10:45pm in order for the website to be moved to a new server. Afterwards I may upgrade the board (if I'm not too tired) or I might wait until tomorrow night. Groovy!
-
We may transfer the board to a new server tonight at 11:00pm. The server we are currently on does not suppor the new forum software. I have asked Bytehosting to move it tonight, but have not confirmed that yet. So this is just a head's up. If it does get moved tonight, I will try and upgrade the board at immeditately following the move.

One thing to keep in mind regarding B3s: I've read somewhere that they made 250,000 of them. So they'll be around for awhile. What shape they'll be in... well, that's another story. What's funny is mint ones are starting to pop up now. I was just at a home last night with a mint condition late 60s B3. It was owned by the guy's mother, who was now in a home. There are a lot of organs like that coming on the market. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on what side you're on, the market prices are pretty high these days. It's still less than buying one of the new digital ones. A mint condition B3 can run anywhere from $5000 to $10,000, depending on your local market. Back in the 80s, you couldn't give the dang things away. I wish my dad would've stocked up on a few.

Robert, It probably will not work very well. Not only is the impedence wrong, turntables use something called the RIAA curve to EQ the signal. Vinyl is very top heavy when it's not EQ'd, so the RIAA curve brings the high-end down and boosts the bass. Putting a mic through such EQ will not give you very good results. I suggest something like this: M-Audio DMP3 You can usually find them used for around $100 (like here). Another option is this guy: Presonus TubePre It's only a single channel (ie, not stereo), but it's around $99 new. And finally, another option would be to buy an inexpensive mixer, like: This one for $79 or this one for $49 That way, you could plug in a couple microphones, pan them the way you want, add a little EQ, and then output them to stereo and hook up that output to any recording device you want... tape deck, computer, etc. Hope this helps!

Yes, supposedly we are on "Sony Connect, EMEPE3, QTRnote, CatchMusic, RuleRadio, Napster, BuyMusic, MusicMatch, Apple iTunes, MusicNet, Emusic, and AudioLunchbox", although I haven't checked all those sites. But that's what CDBaby tells me. I hate to break it to you guys, but you've also made the illegal circuits. Try to see the silver lining - it's also a sign that people are taking note. If it helps, I can state for myself that I resisted the temptation of downloading your CD lossless for free. I want the CD. Autographed. Oh, it doesn't surprise me. We've almost got this second run of CDs paid off, so we're about to break even. That's all I can ask for. Dizzy, PM me about where... I'm just curious! JazzKat, you don't have to download the record. You can buy a "hardcopy" at CDBaby. We get mo' money that way! But either/or is fine.

Got to page five and got werded down. All I can say, with my last two dollars, is that Johnny Taylor and the blues go hand in hand. Y'all know what I'm talking about.

Wow... I feel so... non-regimental. I don't really sit down to practice anymore. Part of the reason is I'm playing regularily, in different styles. A lot of times I won't have anything to do on breaks with the r&b band I play with, so I'll sit there and run through organissimo tunes or teach myself standards from ear memory. That is usually my practice for the week. If I do sit down to practice, it's usually to learn a specific thing, like a cool Jimmy Smith lick or a Don Patterson tune or something. I've actually taken to thinking about music rather than doing it lately, since my hands have been tired from playing a lot. I'll think about certain tunes (usually our originals) and what I want to do on them and then the next time we all rehearse, I try it out. I guess one reason why Joe and I write so well together is that he is very structured and analytical and I am very spontaneous. Like this past rehearsal, we had been discussing for weeks how a certain original needed a complete overhaul... we needed to do something completely different with it rhythmically, to separate it from some of our other stuff. No sooner did those words come out of my mouth at rehearsal... I came up with this groove and that was that. It still needs some tweaking, but that stuff just pops out of me for some reason. I have no idea where it comes from.

Aw, you noticed! I'm playing with the graphics, getting ready for the upgrade to version 2.0.
-
While we're waiting for technical support, if y'all want to suggest some new smilies, let 'er rip.

Alexander does have a point, but in this particular case Foxx really does deserve it. When you watch the movie, you forget that you're watching an actor. It really is Ray up there on the screen.

I like the PR-40 because it has real nice bass and if you set it up right you can get that Larry Young vibe out of it! I also like the reverb. I wouldn't haul one around to the gig, but they are nice for the home and are a great alternative if you can't afford a Leslie. I was talking to my organ tech and he told me a story about a local cat that used to gig with a Hammond B3, two Leslie 122's and a PR-40 tone cabinet set-up inbetween the Leslies. Can you imagine hauling all that stuff around?!?

Kinda off topic, but I just downloaded Firefox and I'm digging it. I used an earlier version of Mozilla a few years ago and didn't care for it, but this is much better. Quicker, smaller, and cleaner than IE, too. Good stuff!

I just got a PR-40 cabinet off eBay for $100. I had to go pick it up tonight in St. Joseph (about a four hour round trip from my crib) but it's in perfect shape. The guy also has a minty 1965 or so B3 with a 142 Leslie, but he knows what it's worth. I got a good deal on the PR-40, though.

Well, Bytehosting has not answered me yet, so I guess I won't be upgrading the board tonight. Hopefully tomorrow night.

Pictures Of Bad Ass Hammond Organs
Jim Alfredson replied to Soulstation1's topic in General Discussion
The fallboard. My B3 doesn't have one. Someone took it off before I found the organ. But that's okay. I like to put a synth on top, which is near impossible with the fallboard attached, so I'd probaly take it off anyway!
