  9. Playing the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club tonight! Come one, come all! I will be spinning two Hammond SK1's from the tips of my fingers while reciting the Gettysburg Address and drinking a chai latte. At least that's what I'll be thinking about during Matt Tecu's drum solo (yeesh). 8pm!

  12. Just got off the phone with Pledge Music. This is going to be good. :)

  13. Whoever suggested Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon on my recent thread on what to read, thank you. Just finished it. Great novel; long but very engaging.

  14. My dreams last night included a three-organ jazz gig with Georgie Fame on one rig, Tony Banks on the other, and Phil Collins on drums (who was hiding in the dressing room air duct before the hit) which then morphed into Liberace giving me a lesson in showmanship on a Hammond M3. Imagine if I did drugs.

  15. The Yahoo Yes (official) concert was great. Yeah, sometimes they were a bit sloppy but they looked like they were having a ball and that music is extremely challenging. I loved it. Here's to rockin' in your late 60s!

  17. Is the protest song dead? Have artists become paralyzed by the possibility of offending someone? Have we become so narcissistic that all we can sing about is our own love and loss? Is the corporate music machine controlling the message? Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, CCR, Bob Marley, The Clash, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, CSNY, John Lennon, Billie Holiday, Edwin Starr, Peter Gabriel, etc. Where are the artists today taking a stand? "Music can change the world because it can change people....

  19. Today's agenda: finishing up Chapman stick tracks on the opening suite to the new THEO album and mix some Greg Nagy tracks. Technically it's an "off day" in Pensacola. That's how I do my "off days".

  20. I knew it was going to be an interesting show when we arrived and the "sound guys" had one mic on the Leslie (on the bottom louvre). The stage manager told me they just picked up the organ the previous day and it had been in storage, not run for almost 20 years. Oh boy. First, the chorus/vibrato was motor-boating, making that awful choppy sound. Then the Leslie switch began operating intermittently. The Leslie would stay stuck on fast. I then noticed the bottom rotor wasn't moving. Opened i...

  21. I am completely sated with BBQ and ice cream right now. What, I have to go play? Can't I just take a nap?

  22. Thanks, Chuck! I'm also working on Greg Nagy's third album, working with organissimo guitarist Larry Barris on a solo jazz project for him, and putting together material for another organissimo. Busy busy!
  23. EDIT: The album is completed and available here - THEO at the Big O Store I've been busy the last three years or so writing and recording a progressive rock album. The band is called THEO (my middle name is Theodore) and the album opens as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_6OXW_cDO0 That's about half the first song. The first three songs are interlinked, about 30 minutes long all together, and deal with themes of corporatism. Hey, it's prog. For those interested, there's a FB page and a very simple website up. I'm going to launch a crowd-funding campaign soon.
  24. So, the question on my mind this morning is: Vinyl or 5.1? For example, offer the new prog album on vinyl or 5.1 hi-res surround?

  25. The histrionic reactions to the satire piece on Sonny Rollins in the New Yorker encapsulates everything that is wrong with jazz.
