  1. Okey dokey. After all is said and done and despite my ramblings, I agree with 7/4. Metheny was probably talking about the documentary and it's lack of including anything that happened after 1979.
  2. Um.... what are you talking about?
  3. I always thought it was "schlong" which means "hose" doesn't it?
  4. Wow... tough break. Hang in there! Your wife is a strong woman to put up with five days in the hospital and no labor! Like Sangry said, don't freak out if a c-section is necessary. My wife's is barely even visible now.
  5. The term "dis" is slang for "disrespect" so dissing and not having respect for something is one and the same. In any case, I don't know where you got the notion that because Metheny expects the music to evolve and move forward that he is somehow disrespecting Miles or Coltrane (two of the most progressive and forward thinking musicians of the genre). Both began in bebop but then pushed the music into different places, instead of just staying within the confines of bebop. In other words, they moved forward, just like Metheny said. If the music becomes stagnant, it will die.
  6. That sounds pretty wild, cliff! Where do they play? Oh, and welcome to the board.
  7. What constitutes "real" jazz?
  8. I completely agree with him. That you think it means he is dissing bebop or Coltrane says more about you than him.
  9. Aw, Rachel's first thread. How cute.
  10. This may be delayed while I work on the 6 minute version for one of our members.
  11. Art Tatum?! Does he play actually play the melody or loop around it at 400mph? Remember, I need this to learn the tune itself.
  12. Anything with Stanley T on it! He just makes me smile!
  13. Just got this from Bol. Thanks! I'm enjoying the first track as I type! B-)
  14. The only thing I can find about it when googling is some guy selling his for $258, so $59 seems like a good deal if it works. Make sure it works before you buy it. I once found a good deal on a Marantz amp only to take it home and realize it didn't work.
  15. Concerning direct DC... does it work off a battery? That's the only way to get direct DC that I know of.
  16. 870 amps would blow up every fuse in your house. You must've read it wrong. A standard 120vac circuit in your home is usually only 15amps, 20amps at the most. It would be 870watts, but even that is extreme. It could be pulling 870watts... meaning it uses 870watts to output say 200watts of power and the rest is dispated as heat (that's how stuff works!) but even that is a little extreme. That's like a PA power amp or something!
  17. No, the dirt hasn't pulled away. At least not that I can see... problem is the previous owners installed what can only be described as sidewalks on the north and south side of the house. They literally look like concrete sidewalks. I have no idea what they are for... I can only assume that they are supposed to funnel water away from the house but I have not checked to see if they are at an angle. 90% of the water is coming in from the east side anyway, which is new. It was coming from the north side primarily, but the eaves seemed to have solved that. I'm not sure how it is coming in from the east because we have a huge front porch on the east side (the entrance side of our house). I checked underneath the porch yesterday and it is perfectly dry under there. Very strange.
  18. The whole idea of royalty is nauseating and I'm utterly surprised it has lasted into the 21st century. On second thought, no I'm not.
  19. ARGH! So we made it through an entire spring, summer, and fall without any water coming into the basement but last night it started to seep in. No doubt due to all the snow melting here in Michigan and the ground still being semi-frozen. Also, it's been raining for 18 hours straight as well as the melting snow and now it is snowing again! I thought the new eaves would solve the problem, but I woke up this morning to water in my studio. When it all dries I guess we need to spring for some cement/foundation sealer. I found some stuff that is guaranteed to work on poured concrete foundations, especially old ones like mine (almost 100 years old) but it's expensive. $174 for a five gallon bucket. But I gotta do what I gotta do!
  20. We did get on northbound I-127 to go to the grocery store and I couldn't believe how fast some people were going. It's 55mph through Lansing and people were going 75mph in the dense fog. I saw a documentary on cable where it's proven that people drive faster in fog. The reason is that in really dense fog, you can't tell how fast you are going because you can't see trees, road signs, etc. They are what give you your sense of velocity (frame of reference) so people, without meaning to, drive faster. And that's bad...
  21. We had some weird weather the last few days here in Mid-Michigan. First we get dumped on by snow. Then it warms up and all the snow melts but causes massive fog. Now it's raining like crazy and by tomorrow it's supposed to be freezing again. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't take to the highway yesterday. I travel this route constantly when I go to Ann Arbor to do freelance work. http://www.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...EWS01/501130352 This is literally 10 miles from my house! It is also the route that my wife takes 99% of the time to go to and from her work. I guess I can be thankful she's on disability!
  22. $150 for 1gig? I'm there. I can load it up with Joe and I's favorite "driving to and fro the gig" music and rock out for days! B-)
  23. Gotta get a wah wah, first and foremost.
