  1. This is an old, old scam. I'm surprised this guy fell for it.
  2. I'm almost done with this. I am working on it.
  3. Damn. They raised the price on that program. I bought mine for $40 back in the day (online from the Nero site). I haven't kept up with the releases. I have version 5.5 and it works fine so I just stick to it.
  4. Aha. There was something disabled. There should be a carbon copy box now. I have set it up so you can send to 12 members at a time. Sorry... that box has always been there for me. I just assumed you guys could do it to, but I had to turn it on for you regular members. BWA HA HA!
  5. Could be a function B3-er has the option to turn on or off. Hey Claude, what did you tell yourself in that PM? Anything juicy? Not that I know of. I ain't turned nothing off. I'll look into it. Maybe the names need to be seperated by a semi-colon?
  6. But there still is an interesting sub-current running through this thread. Taking Jimmy Smith out of context and putting him in today's world he doesn't seem like much. People ask me all the time, "How did you learn to play organ like that?" Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Smith is my answer. They look at me perplexed. Especially the young kids. "What about Medeski?" Medeski is cool but if you want to learn the shit for real, you have to go to Jimmy Smith.
  7. Yes, I have a little egg on my face now. It seems he was referring to the actual audio quality of the recordings, not the playing involved. To my mind the Blue Notes sound a lot better than a lot of the Stax recordings of the early 60s, from a purely audiophile point of view. I guess I got riled up over nothing!
  8. So over on the TapeOp board, they are discussing the recent interview with Rudy Van Gelder (which I discuss here). I spoke about how RVG really captured the sound of the Hammond like no one else and then a member responded with this comment: I responded quizically: To which he replied: What is this guy talking about? Is he saying the BN Jimmy Smith sides are not greasy? Is he on crack? So I responded: What the hell? I really don't understand where this cat is coming from. Comments?
  9. Exhibit B: Top 20 Search Strings for July 2004.
  10. I'm re-opening this thread because of an interesting piece of information. Here, in my mind, is further proof that the Babe Thread was not such a great idea. Do we really want a bunch of people coming here because they are searching for images of chicks? The top 20 searches that lead people to Organissimo for the month of September, 2004:
  11. Eesh... either or is expensive from France. Which do you prefer? I could hook up the fax right now and give you the number.
  12. Bob "Bubba" Grundner passed away on Saturday night, October 2nd, 2004 at the age of 48 after losing his battle with lung cancer after about 2 years. Bubba was a great drummer here in Lansing and a very humble, funny, and kind person. I had the pleasure of playing with him numerous Monday nights at the Green Door Lounge as part of the Blue Avenue Delegates for the better part of 2 years when I was first learning my shit on the Hammond. He was always gracious, always smiling, and always swingin'. He moved to Nashville in the mid-90s and did pretty well. He's on a record by Dolly Parton (Hungry Again from 1998 I belive) but found that the pace and lifestyle of that scene was too much. Just this past July I recorded him with my mentor Doug Decker on Hammond and Steve Frarey (Joe's first jazz teacher) on guitar here in my home studio. He loved the sound of the organ trio and wanted to document his playing with one, since he knew he wouldn't be around much longer. He played most of the session with an oxygen mask on, but still swung like crazy. It was a real pleasure to be a part of that session. RIP Bob Grundner. You were a fantastic musician and a real beautiful soul. You will be missed.
  13. I used to subscribe to Stereophile and had the April 2002 issue with the interview with Roy DuNann, but when my wife and I moved I tossed them all since I hadn't subscribed in over a year. Does anyone here on the board happen to have that issue? If so, could you fax or email me a copy of the article?
  14. No picks? Where's ss1? Lions have a by-week. I'm watching the Pack/NYG game right now. It's fumble/interception alley!
  15. Oooo cool, the Sco on DVD!!!
  16. Unfortunately the article in not online (http://www.tapeop.com/) but maybe if I have a free moment I can type it up.
  17. TapeOp is an independent recording magazine (probably the best recording magazine out there, actually... and it's free to subscribe!) They interview RVG in this month's issue and he talks about his studio, recording the big names, how he got started, etc. Pretty interesting article. He talks a little about his equipment but not much. They also have a related interview with John Tchicai about recording at RVG's studio and playing with Coltrane.
  18. How about using two letter anacronyms for avant-garde related threads and just keep them in the Artists forum or whatever? Like: AG - Henry Threadgill Corner or FRE - Brotzman's Latest Release AG = avant garde, obviously and FRE = Funny Rat Extension Just a thought.
  19. Have these shown up yet? Just curious...
  20. Time to copyright the name. HA!
