  1. In the thread about the Chicago Jazz Festival, I mentioned I had never heard of him and Chuck related that he is a great player. In the same thread I think jazzypaul, who lives in Chicago, said that he smokes everyone, not only in Chicago but the country. Obviously with a statement like that, I gotta go see the guy!
  2. My dad likes to recount the story about how upon his return from the service he found out his mom had thrown out all his comic books including the original Superman #1. Yeah.
  3. Bummer. My wife and Zora and I will probably be there! It'll be fun!
  4. Up for Chuck. Up chuck. Get it?
  5. Randy just informed me that the now notorious (on this board) Chris Foreman will be appearing in Grand Rapids this coming Monday. Amazingly, there is no mention of this on the zoo's website. This is all I can find on the web: They use my favorite phrase. All that jazz.
  6. I have no sympathy for Mike Tyson.
  7. I don't know about the other two, but Rodney Whittaker has a lot of records under his belt.
  8. Damn. Wish I were in NYC.
  9. Mothership is a great session. The others have moments which make them completely worthwhile.
  10. I thought I would make the schedule a little easier to read: Thursday, August 12 - Rotary Pavilion, Cadillac, MI - "Upbeat Cadillac" - 7:00pm to 9:15pm Friday, August 13 - Rambadt Park, Reed City, MI - "Crossroads Picnic Showcase" - 7:00pm to 9:15pm Saturday, August 14 - Wenger Pavilion, Baldwin, MI - "Sounds from the Forest" - 7:00pm to 9:15pm Sunday, August 15 - Waterfront Park, Ludington, MI - "Ludington WaterFront ShowCase" - 2:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday, August 15 - Gull Landing, Pentwater, MI - 7:00pm to 11:00pm Monday, August 16 - Waterfront Stadium, Grand Haven, MI - "Stompin at the Stadium" - 7:00pm to 9:15pm Tuesday, August 17 - First St. Beach, Manistee, MI - "Manistee ShoreLine ShowCase" - 7:00pm to 9:15pm Wednesday, August 18 - Gull Landing, Pentwater, MI - 7:00pm to 11:00pm My plan is to record most if not all the gigs. I just have to get a couple extra harddrives!
  11. And the new reissues sound better than the Mosaic, imo.
  12. Is this what I think it is: Expensive cables exposed...
  13. What are these companies using as copy protection? Is it one of these schemes that induces errors into the datastream? If so, I can say there would be an audible difference without hearing the discs. Anything that increases jitter is BAD. The digital clock is the weakest link in the chain in most CD players and anything that would specifically mess with it even more would definately make a sonic difference.
  14. Could it possibly be good?
  15. Uh..... so which is it?
  16. So far, the only guy who has even remotely challenged him was Matt Ottinger, who is actually a guy from Okemos, MI (where I finished high school). Matt hosts Quiz Busters on our local PBS station, a high school quiz show much like Jeopardy. He is a trivia god. He was on about a month ago and was very close to beating Ken, but missed the final question. My wife is sick of him! She keeps hoping he loses. I think it's kind of cool.
  17. I'm going to move this to the Musician's Forum if you don't mind.
  18. The hit didn't happen. The club lost power during that storm that rolled through around 5:30pm and we waited around until 9pm before the manager finally called it. Chuck, Bill, Mark, their friend Eric all came out as well as some other friends of ours and some people who heard we were going to be there. We would've had a great crowd. At 9pm we left to get some food and drinks at Vitale's on Leonard and Big Al joined us there. We still had a good time, although I was looking forward to playing. But it was a great hang none-the-less.
  19. Wow, really!? That's terrible... he is an amazing engineer. I love how the Hammond organ sounds on his recordings.
  20. Thank you! We're working hard on our next CD... more originals and maybe a cover or two. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for playing the CD on the radio! Every little bit helps.
  21. Chuck, the joint used to be a sports bar, so I think you'll be fine. Shirt or no.
  22. Jamn. I think he's very busy about now! He's going to Japan in August, I think.
  23. Too bad you can't join us, Lazaro. Have fun!
  24. Big Al is up all the way from Texas and will be at our show at Club North this Wednesday. Any other board members from the west-side care to make an appearance? If so, please do!! Chuck Upright Bill Uncle Skid Lazaro Am I missing anyone? The details: July 21 - 8:00pm to 11:00pm Club North 1359 Plainfield Ave NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505 Phone: (616) 454-0899
