Allen, did you say on the right?

Don Cheadle may play Miles Davis in biopic
Christiern replied to mgraham333's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Time and again, we are slapped into the reality that Helen Hayes is gone forever. What a Miles she would have made! -
Well, if we can believe the media.....

I rather liked the contrast between Paris and NJ--the juxtaposition of fancy French restaurant with the club house offering and the cut to Bada-bing! were effective, IMO. Still, my overall impression of the final episodes is that the series is fizzling.

If that album is anything like the horror she delivered at the Grammy awards, it will be an abomination, perhaps even worse than Dionne Warwick's stab at Cole Porter--and I do mean stab!

Whew! I'm glad that has been clarified. Fortunately, the strong arm of the vigilante only reaches so far--we can still bump away in the no-no zone. -

I usually don't disagree with my friend, Harold, but "likely" does not apply here--you simply won't find many of these performances anywhere else. And Brownie is right, this is an ear-opener for anyone who thought it all started with a fabled cylinder and the ODJB sides. And let us not forget the accompanying text from Allen's book--this is a perfect meld of words and warbles. -
Sort of like the GUI. Didn't he lift that from Xerox? Or was that the mouse? Well, let's say that he lifted the concept and took it giant steps forward. Then came Gates and simply took it, no steps there, but innovation has never been Microsoft's forté.

I usually don't agree with suspect Rove, but I highly recommend this set. -
Here are some interesting details. The long-awaited deal for Apple's sprawling subterranean store in the GM building was recently finalized, but only after landlord Harry Macklowe promised Steve Jobs he could take his big $9 million glass cube with him at the end of the lease. Techno aesthete Jobs personally designed the 32-foot-by-32-foot box that will mark the store's entrance on the Fifth Avenue plaza (formerly home to a T.G.I.Friday's). "Steve Jobs felt that he created the cube so he owned it," says Apple broker Robert Futterman, noting that Macklowe wanted it to stay put. "At the eleventh hour, that was the biggest issue." Macklowe had aggressively wooed Jobs, flying out to California twice and offering well below market rent of $1,000 per square foot for the 24,000-square-foot store set to open in the spring. At the end of the twenty-year lease, Jobs must replace the cube with a comparable structure before hauling it off. Apple didn't return calls, and Macklowe declined to comment. BTW I believe the Louvre pyramid also has a round, hydrolic elevator. So much for Steve Job's design.

aka the Shawn yawn? -
Here's a closer look at the bridge--the amazing thing is that this is only a block away from the Apple store. New York is a great city. To get back on topic, here are more people descending into and surfacing from the new shrine...

I dropped by the store this morning to buy an Airport Express. Here are some pictures I took... Notice the round elevator. and walking down Central Park South, I snapped this one ...
-
It's also impressive from down there... See for yourself.

You have to hand it to Steve Jobs, he knows how to attract attention to Apple. The new NYC store opens at 6 PM this evening, it is on Fifth Ave. between 58th and 59th Street--a fantastic location--and it will be open 24/7/365. It's subterranean, but you can't miss it--here's a photo of the entrance, a 3-story high glass cube.

Sure it can, and it has. That said, it is still the leader when it comes to design and innovation. Kari S, there is no iBook anymore, so I don't know what you mean when you say they are "selling old technology with an Apple logo." Here's what you get for $1,099: New MacBook, and it has the Intel chip, so it will also run that other OS. With a built-in i-Sight camera, remote control, built-in wireless (Airport), etc., it is a far cry from the iBook G4.

Hate to tell you this, graham, but your dinosaur story is rendered invalid by the new Macs, which will run Windows XL (Aghhh!) naturally (i.e. without Microsoft's Virtual PC). The iPod charger complaint is petty, IMO. Face it, there ain't much to bash, especially if one has to make a comparison with the Gates ripoffs in order to do it.

Disappointing, yes. The Brokeback element--tired as it has become--did, however, inspire a quick, witty cut: the interestingly timed train into tunnel sequence.

Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth HR record
Christiern replied to Tjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I do not hate Barry Bonds--in fact, I have never seen a baseball game (other than news snippets) and could care less about this so-called "America's pastime." So, my comments are totally objective--I think breaking records with the help of chemicals is a far greater departure from ethics than placing bets. At least, Pete Rose earned his stats the right way--sans artificial boosters. -

With Bond' steroid use, I don't know why y'all are even discussing this. The man cheated and I agree that this renders any record he might beat invalid. -
Boob Tube: Deal Or No Deal
Christiern replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Far from intellectually stimulating, but, nevertheless, absorbing. It beats watching the truly dumb situation "comedies" that seem to be everywhere. I am also sick of "Law and Order," which definitely is everywhere. That said, I never miss an episode of "The Young and the Restless"--that's what happens when one works at home. -
Yes, you see him walk over to me at the end of this piece--he performed again after the interview. As for the 70's fashion, I'm embarrassed every time I see myself on that show (in this clip, at least, I'm in the shadows), because my hair was long and I wore horribly outdated clothes--besides, I smoked cigarettes on every show (gave that up some 25 years ago).
