SS, yep! .338 for him, Rod Carew and Wade Boggs both ended up with a career .328 BA. Come on, someone must know some interesting baseball trivia! Quincy????? I wonder if Cardinal announcer Mike Shannon has set a record for most games over 18 innings. For once the Braves or Mets weren't involved too. I wonder how many times he said, Abner Doubleday, you've done it again! (Probably hasn't said that in a decade or three...) Wait a minute... wasn't the question for 1960 - 1969? As usual, I'm confused We've moved on, answered here

Honestly, the Astros (at least at this point) really screwed up, and didn't get anywhere near what they should have for the players they traded away. Glad they traded Michael Bourn, but no way should they have given him up for what they got from the braves. Don't think any of the guys given up by the Phils have made Astros fans forget about Pence(Yet-Jonathan Singleton may be pretty good down the road) Reminds me of the Pirates seemingly forced to give up Xavier Nady and Jason Bay(back when they were well above average outfielders in their late 20's) Don't think the guys they got for them are the reason they are in the W.C. hunt right now....Don't know how the Marlins are able to have a fire sale yet get teams top prospects back, and some teams don't. I just don't see how Brad Mills can be blamed for this mess. There was huge turnover in staff last year, then everyone else this year...and the Astros were supposed to be competitive with a bunch of raw kids new to the organization? Stoopid. Always liked the Astros, back to the Jose Cruz Sr, Enos Cabell, Art Howe days...hopefully they get some great draft pick, and will compete soon. Look how quick the Nats turned things around...surely there are a ton Bryce Harper's and Stephen Strasburgs just waiting to be drafted in a year or two!

Well, GA, I thought it was a pretty good trivia question, you may disagree! Some good guesses, though Carew didn't start til 1967(and hit under .300 his first 2 years!) Mr Sangrey, Quincy and JETman got it.... Roberto Clemente . I guess what blew me away was he hit .328, the next closest player(and I sure didn't expect it to be impossible to pull up what they mentioned a few nights ago on baseball tonight, Quincy halp!) was either Aaron or Robinson(I think) at .309 A Nearly 20 point difference! And we are talking a guy with some power, it wasn't like it was Carew. Even though Clemente is talked about as one of the very best right fielders in the game to boot, he just doesn't seem to ever get compared to Mays, Mantle, and Aaron. I saw a very good story on Neil Walker that was apparently from Outside the Lines, (Link doesn't work now, more fail today, perhaps it will come back up http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8255199 ) and re-ran on baseball tonight. The Pirates 2nd baseman wouldn't be here today if Clemente hadn't kept his Dad, Tom Walker from boarding the plane that fateful day in 1972. Story here Anyway after ESPN ran that story, they showed those stats. And now you know...the rest of the story! Wait, one more, I remember from a Trivia tournament I was in a few weeks ago... What hitter has the highest career BA since Ted Williams? Shouldn't be quite as hard...

yep, all 10...

I'll give some folks a chance in the A.M. then give the answer in the Afternoon...stay tuned!

A really good trivia question....what hitter had the highest B.A. from 1960 thru 1969???

Perhaps just lock out some folks here that don't seem to have any interest in talking about, you know...baseball?

I think Santana was just showing everyone he had the ball Great story, even if you didn't get to see THE game...I did imagine you somewheres gritting your teeth down to numbs saying, 3??? in the same season??? before September even??? Forgot it was your team(did you root for the Washington Generals as a child? ) aloc! Are we now saying if you are rich/saved up for box seats, that you didn't build that wealth, and deserve nothing short of birdpoop in your eyes?

SS,you may laugh, but a quick 30 game winning streak, and the Indians are right back in it! Best story I have seen on the Strasburg "situation" http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8253442/shut-stephen-strasburg-just-let-pitch They should have asked me though...early in the year...they should have just had him start the season late...Sort of like the braves did with Tim Hudson(after back surgery in the offseason) I don't think Hudson was in a game til may(just looked it up, started once in April) If Strasburg had a late spring training, then a few starts in AAA, then joined the club in early to mid May, no real concern on an innings limit, right? What would be more important, those 32 innings he threw in April, or to be pitching in big games in Sept, and October?
-
Heh, could have told you that! Anyone that is 34, and is blessed to make millions playing baseball, would rather stay at home(at that advanced age) than take a few million cut...sucks. Writers having been saying for years that he would be the guy most likely to walk away from the game early and never look back...what a guy. Talking about retiring ever since he turned 30 . Big baby indeed. What's funny, is with his stuff, he could be a very good bullpen guy, on a team trying to make it back to the W.S. but it's all about Roy.

Uh...guess it's back? Teams do that, just to mess with your head.(And isn't that one of the greatest gifts of baseball? No way to really get a handle on it, to guess the future?) When the braves are losing, they look like the worst team in baseball. Start of the season, the braves picked up Chad Durbin, who had been released by the Nats. Seemed like a typical move by a team with tight purse strings. Cannot tell you how many times he gave up runs early on. Every outing in April it seemed. Some were unearned, but he was beyond a joke. Seemed to just be killing the team. One braves fan said he would rather see Deanna Durbin on the mound! hitters were batting .378 against him in April. Then .132 in May....now, most inherited runners don't score when he toes the rubber. Never would have guessed. People thought Michael Bourn was not really into being a brave early on this year, no life in him, it seemed. After a few weeks though, he seemed the most fired up player on the team. But, when they leave 10 runners on, can't advance guys, and lose 5-1 even though they had 10-12 hits....worst team in baseball!

Brett did it naturally! Brett only hit .337 during the playoffs...10 Hr's http://www.baseball-...ostseason::none Bonds .247 9 Hr's http://www.baseball-...ostseason::none Bonds was a terrible hitter in the post season prior to the 2004 run to the WS, so much so that the .247 was a large inprovement built on that season's playoff run. The most amazing / interesting Bonds playoff story I heard over the off season was on MLB TV's "Greatest Games" where they were reviewing the Pittsburg vs. Atlanta series, the one with Sid Bream's "speedy dash" to home plate. Andy Van Slyke was one of the in studio guests (center fielder in that game), and he said that before the infamous single that drove in Bream, he kept motioning to Bonds to play closer to the infield, to make the shorter throw possible. Bonds response: He gave Van Slyke the finger. Watching the reply, it took Sid FOREVER to get to home plate, Bonds probably could have run in with the ball and tagged him out. All those Gold Gloves, and that was the best Bonds could come up with. Edit: To spell Atlanta correctly -- sorry Beri! Why do you think I usually write, ATL? Interesting story, thanks for passing it along! Sid was slow for 50 year old. Prince Fielder could get around the diamond twice in the time it would take Sid to do it once. Still not a 100% sure he was safe.

Trading two outfielders(one of which that will be a FA in two months) is not "blowing up" the team. Why get rid of Pence? Are you serious? He's a good complimentary player that is getting paid star money - $10M this season and he's eligible for arbitration next year(estimates are $13-15) That's a lot of coin for a player that can't field, throws like a girl, strikes out too much, is terrible with RISP, and doesn't know how to run the bases. But hey he's got a TON of energy. The Phillies are getting Schierholtz (who always comes up with a clutch hit vs. the Phillies it seems), the Giants # 2 overall prospect , a young arm, and most importantly they get to dump salary. I like it. I don't think Lee was ever seriously on the market. That was just Amaro messing with the media's heads. Maybe soemthing will happen in the off season but it all depends upon Halladay's health. The Phillies don't need to rebuild, just reload. Get a third baseman that can hit for power and field, grab Michael Bourn, and do something about the BP. Big "to do" list but not impossible. I think you are forgetting your team has had no offense to support Pence this year. Last 3 years with runners on, .309, with RISP, Pence is hitting .301 http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/28687/type/batting3/hunter-pence Who lead the team in HR's , RBI's and hits? Pence. He shouldn't be a clean-up hitter, but he has had to be this season. Pence may throw like a girl(then what does Juan Pierre throw like? ) but that girl usually gets outs with her arm, at least in past years http://www.nj.com/times-sports/index.ssf/2012/01/another_stat_to_measure_outfie.html It just seams to me the Phils really need offense. If this frees up a bit of money to sign some guys, great...but the offense sucked before the trades...and I am seeing they got guys like a AA catcher. No 3rd basemen? No LF, CF, RF?? Ain't gonna get Michael Bourn , braves can actually afford him since we won't be spending money on Zack Greinke or Asshole Dempster in 2013(Hey, hope he's great with the Rangers, Rangers fans, but still a dick and a half!) Wow...wow to Feliz needing TJ too(they should have figured this out awhile back, shouldn't they?)I wonder the percentage of pitchers in the Majors that have had TJ surgery? Feels like it would be 20+%

Well, Phillies seem to be blowing up the team. I get trading Victorino. But why trade Hunter Pence? I know he gets paid very well, but he's only 29, and plays with a ton of energy. If the Giants get him, it will give them a huge boost. And most importantly, something for Mike Schwartz and Goodspeak to finally agree on! Back to the Phils though. I'm not seeing ML ready pieces coming back, at least in the spotty info I am seeing. So do they trade Cliff Lee too? Roy? Boy, Cole Hamels must be kicking himself right now.

Utterly pointless observation as it has no bearing on his career, but I'm surprised to see that this 22 year old has yet to commit an error. His total innings equal over 31 complete games (if it helps to visualize 283 IP) and it's not unheard of for a pro to do that, but to have not committed one in A ball?! I've been to quite a few 7 (total) error A ball games, so that kind of blows my mind. Even if he didn't face many bunt attempts I'd think sooner or later a young pitcher would screw up a toss to 1st. Oh, pretty nice looking pitching numbers, and I'm more impressed that humans can be 6'4" and just 185. Only you could notice something like this! Heck, and you made an error just in pointing this out to us! I think it's pretty impressive too...6'4" 185. Probably lying! Braves made a trade! 2 actually... The Cubs have traded left-hander Paul Maholm, outfielder Reed Johnson and cash considerations to the Braves in a four-player trade that provides Atlanta with reinforcements for the season's final two months and bolsters Chicago's minor league system. The Cubs obtain right-handers Jaye Chapman and Arodys Vizcaino in the trade, which the teams have announced. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/team-to-acquire-reed-johnson.html For people that care about such silly stats, Reed is hitting .307. Maholm has a 3.74 ERA but a 4-0 record and 1.23 ERA in July. Dempster can now officially rot... Cubs fans should boo the living shit out of him every chance they get...

http://atlantablackstar.com/2012/07/27/check-out-the-new-slimmed-down-barry-bonds/ The other guy is 6-3, 185....I'd be huge next to Bonds, and I'm not huge....

Well, to be fair, he banjoed 13 HR's last year in only 189 ABs. He was once a can't miss prospect with the Braves...give him some AB's and the Indians win the Central!

Sad, always liked him, and the show. He's pretty funny in a cameo in Love at First Bite.... Didn't know it til Isabel Sanford died...would you have ever guessed she was born in 1917, he in 1938?????
