  2. I've checked with Jazz Record Mart. Unfortunately, the Dickerson CD was sold. Thanks for the info. Recently, I saw "Cat House Piano" shooting sky high on ebay... Some discs of this series are really hard to find. Completing this series might become a long term project now. If there is a tower nearby, and they sell used cds, check them out...They had the One Vibes has as his Avatar(Hey, can't remember the title, sue me!) and the sampler one, still sealed! I sold a few on ebay last year...look under the racks, lots of old stuff just sits there, or it did in the past...the used cds were looking thin at my Tower of late...
  3. Thanks for the info! I wish I had paid a bit more attention to the song while it was playing, they seemed better than most vocal groups of the era, just assumed there would be more sides than this handful!!!!
  4. She died a few days back in fact... did I miss a thread on this??? 86!!! That means she was 20 years older than Sherman Hemsley! Isabel Sanford, Emmy-Winning Actress Who Created "Weezie" Jefferson on TV and Stage, Dead at 86 Actress Isabel Sanford, widely known for her Emmy Award-winning turn as Louise Jefferson on TV's "The Jeffersons," died of natural causes at a Los Angeles hospital July 9, her publicist announced July 12. Ms. Sanford, whose husky voice and dismissive, withering response to her character's husband, George, was a staple on "All in the Family" and its spin-off "The Jeffersons," also appeared in plays and musicals in her career. But the 86-year-old actress was best known as "Weezie" Jefferson. A new generation of fans is getting to know her work in cable TV reruns of the Norman Lear sitcom. Sherman Hemsley played her chafing, opinionated husband on the series. In the 1990s, Ms. Sanford and members of the original cast toured the nation in The Jeffersons Live, a staging of half-hour episodes. The tour was greeted with a thunderous ovation from fans, but critics carped that the experience was recycled goods. Internet Broadway Database lists an Isabell Sanford as part of the cast of James Baldwin's The Amen Corner in 1965. Late in her career, Ms. Sanford appeared in a Los Angeles production of the comic musical, Ruthless. Brief biographies of Ms. Sanford indicate that she spent 30 years in theatre before become a TV actress, but details could not immediately be found. The native New Yorker was the first black woman to win an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, in 1981. "The Jeffersons" (1975-1985) told of a black Queens family that moved up to rich, white East Side of Manhattan, "to a dee-luxe apartment in the sky," as the theme song went. Ms. Sanford appeared as Tillie, the maid in the Katharine Hepburn (news)-Spencer Tracy movie, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." She is survived by a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, according to wire reports. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/p..._playbill/87303
  5. Of course, since he just bought the ball in a store last week, and rubbed some grass and dirt all over it, his $10 had paid off nicely!
  6. The later Mummy movies were none too good, but I might get 'em anyway for nostalgia's sake (I saw them all on our local late-Friday-night horror show when I was a kid). I definitely want to get the Invisible Man set. Man, Ghost...(Hey, that should be your new handle, MANGHOST! ) I ain't never'd seen many of those Invisible Man movies before, not no how!
  7. WAAAHH???? Man, they are digging deep....I remember some of the shows being funny, others completely missing the mark...Anne Marie Martin (One of Michael Crichton's wives) on the other hand.... http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemid=ABD012406
  8. Thought this was a pretty good column on the subject of Shaq.... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...ons/take/040714
  9. The first four Chronological Classics 37-38 38-39 39-40 40-41 would be an obvious starting point. You would get all the RCA's plus a few of the early Decca's on the last disc. There are plenty of other European sets that are drawn from this period.. careful selection might get you them all Check the Proper Box Hampton.. it probably draws quite heavily on this period ..possibly the RCA Jazz Tribune sets if you can find them.. or Avid 611 and Avid 612 two 2CD sets that should do it for you. RCA put out a 3 cd set as well, NOT complete, of course, but still quite good(Never have been about to find the first one in the series) I don't have Hot Mallets, but I have Jumpin' Jive (volume2) and Tempo and Swing (Volume 3) It has a few alternates, reasonably good sound and has Gin For Christmas, the greatest rockin' jazz song ever! You can pick 'em up pretty cheap on ebay, even though they are out of print....
  10. You'd only be cheating if you were on this site, but only listening to your other fav, Rap! Perhaps quit listening to the new jazz crap you listen to, and dig into the old jazz crap you are less familiar with!
  11. Perhaps like Ghost said, it is part of the master plan to make us buy the books again, or for us to pay for the "Classic" AMC, now it really gonna cost us!
  12. They also mentioned the site musicplasma.com as what they had hoped it would turn into...so, I check it out...another flash heavy site, that I couldn't make do jack! Some text off to the left, a bunch of planetary crap about how some artists related to others, I couldn't search for shit...can anyone else??? Does flash not just suck completely?
  13. Well, it was earlier than mid season, but last year the Marlins sure turned it around...Phill Garner has a terrible record as manager, but he never has had a chance with a good team, could be interesting....
  14. Yeah like Ha, Ha! You don't have the resources the Evil Yankees have!
  15. Chip Implanted in Mexico Judicial Workers Jul 14, 5:30 PM (ET) By WILL WEISSERT (AP) Antonio Aceves shows the VeriChip which is a microchip that is implanted unders a person's skin and... MEXICO CITY (AP) - Security has reached the subcutaneous level for Mexico's attorney general and at least 160 people in his office - they have been implanted with microchips that get them access to secure areas of their headquarters. It's a pioneering application of a technology that is widely used in animals but not in humans. Mexico's top federal prosecutors and investigators began receiving chip implants in their arms in November in order to get access to restricted areas inside the attorney general's headquarters, said Antonio Aceves, general director of Solusat, the company that distributes the microchips in Mexico. Attorney General Rafael Macedo de la Concha and 160 of his employees were implanted at a cost to taxpayers of $150 for each rice grain-sized chip. (AP) Carlos Altamirano ismplanted with the VeriChip, a microchip that is used to confirm everything... Full Image More are scheduled to get "tagged" in coming months, and key members of the Mexican military, the police and the office of President Vicente Fox might follow suit, Aceves said. Fox's office did not immediately return a call seeking comment. A spokeswoman for Macedo de la Concha's office said she could not comment on Aceves' statements, citing security concerns. But Macedo himself mentioned the chip program to reporters Monday, saying he had received an implant in his arm. He said the chips were required to enter a new federal anti-crime information center. "It's only for access, for security," he said. The chips also could provide more certainty about who accessed sensitive data at any given time. In the past, the biggest security problem for Mexican law enforcement has been corruption by officials themselves. Aceves said his company eventually hopes to provide Mexican officials with implantable devices that can track their physical location at any given time, but that technology is still under development. (AP) Carlos Altamirano is being scanned to show the 16 digits code of the implanted VeriChip July 17,... Full Image The chips that have been implanted are manufactured by VeriChip Corp., a subsidiary of Applied Digital Solutions Inc. (ADSX) of Palm Beach, Fla. They lie dormant under the skin until read by an electromagnetic scanner, which uses a technology known as radio frequency identification, or RFID, that's now getting hot in the inventory and supply chain businesses. Scott Silverman, Applied Digital Solutions' chief executive, said each of his company's implantable chips has a special identification number that would foil an impostor. "The technology is out there to duplicate (a chip)," he said. "What can't be stolen is the unique identification number and the information that is tied to that number." Erik Michielsen, director of RFID analysis at ABI Research Inc., said that in theory the chips could be as secure as existing RFID-based access control systems such as the contactless employee badges widely used in corporate and government facilities. However, while those systems often employ encryption, Applied Digital's implantable chips do not as yet. Silverman said his company's system is nevertheless save because its chips can only be read by the company's proprietary scanners. In addition to the chips sold to the Mexican government, more than 1,000 Mexicans have implanted them for medical reasons, Aceves said. Hospital officials can use a scanning device to download a chip's serial number, which they then use to access a patient's blood type, name and other information on a computer. The Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve microchips as medical devices in the United States. Still, Silverman said that his company has sold 7,000 chips to distributors across the United States and that more than 1,000 of those had likely been inserted into U.S. customers, mostly for security or identification reasons. In 2002, a Florida couple and their teenage son had Applied Digital Solutions chips implanted in their arms. The family hoped to someday be able to automatically relay their medical information to emergency room staffers. The chip originally was developed to track livestock and wildlife and to let pet owners identify runaway animals. The technology was created by Digital Angel Corp. (DOC), which was acquired by Applied Digital Solutions in 1999. Because the Applied Digital chips cannot be easily removed - and are housed in glass capsules designed to break and be unusable if taken out - they could be even more popular someday if they eventually can incorporate locator capabilities. Already, global positioning system chips have become common accouterments on jewelry or clothing in Mexico. In fact, in March, Mexican authorities broke up a ring of used-car salesmen turned kidnappers who were known as "Los Chips" because they searched their victims to detect whether they were carrying the chips to help them be located http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040714/D83QQBP80.html
  16. Hulk learn much in Hollywood! "Why no one appreciate daring vision of Ang Lee? Aaargh! Ang Lee genius! Maybe panels on screen gimmicky, but him try something new. When last time you try something new?! Ang Lee willing to work in unfamiliar genres. Him brave like Hulk. Hulk wish for him to work on Hulk 2, if he willing, but Hulk understand if he not want to. Ang Lee like Hulk: He not stay in one place for too long. Him working on gay western right now. That prove Hulk's point. If him not do it, maybe Darren Aronofsky or David Gordon Green. Someone with unique vision that not so stuck on action clichés. First studio exec to suggest Joel Schumacher get smashed! Hulk 2 give chance to increase merchandising profile, as well. Hulk have ideas for new Hulk products. Hulk Foam Hands surprise hit in toy stores. Hulk Foam Hands big and soft and make Hulk smashing noises when you hit things. If Hulk Hands big hit, Hulk Feet even bigger hit! Make smashing and stomping noises. Imagine puny human child walking around with Hulk Feet! Make big noise like Hulk. Imagine... ho, ho, ho... excuse Hulk, Hulk laughing. That funny! But Hulk not just limit branding to toys. Make Hulk Shampoo and Hulk Shampoo For Kids, in special no-tears formula. It sound like bad idea, but it good idea! You squirt it right in eye, and it not make you mad! Hulk very concerned with hygiene and comfort. Know how hard it is to make puny human child take bath. Hulk Shampoo make bath-time fun!"
  17. Yeah, it was pretty funny...a little too recent for my tastes, but still funny...Clear Pepsi! 2 comedians drank some of the vintage Pepsi....Can you imagine what it had morphed into in a decade???
  18. You know, I bought this cd a while back, thinking he would sound like he did in the 40's, and was disappointed in it...would be interesting to see how you liked the earlier singing by Woody. I have heard people complain about his singing, but I really liked it! His vocals on Caldonia, Laura, and Your Father's Mustache are just sublime...what he lacked in a true crooner's voice, he more than made up for with his feel for a song...I also think that while he was not Goodman, Shaw, or Noone level on the clarinet, I love his clarinet playing!
  19. >thread on Misc Music forum<
  20. He shouldn't have beaned Piazza , nor thrown the ball at him! From what I have heard on ESPN, he was doing a lot of promoting of Houston(What, is he running for office?) into the wee hours of the morning...
