  4. Man lay dead in bed for two years Condo fees and bills were still being paid Body finally found in mummified state WINNIPEG—His telephone number was still listed in the telephone directory and his condominium fees and bills were automatically being withdrawn from his bank account. No one knew Jim Sulkers had died in his bed almost two years ago. Neighbour Sam Shuster said residents in the complex often wondered where the man they knew only as Jim had gone, but were told his condominium fees were still being paid. "How can that happen, for God's sake. Two years!" Shuster said yesterday of the man who had been a resident in the building since the mid-1980s. "I used to ask the president of the board of directors where in the hell is he? She said all she knew was the bank gets the monthly money so we don't worry about it." Sulkers' remains were discovered Wednesday. Manitoba's chief medical examiner, Dr. Thambirajah Balachandra, determined he had died of natural causes. Sulkers, believed to be in his 50s, had multiple sclerosis. Balachandra said there were no signs of trauma and he was able to quickly rule out homicide, suicide or accident as a cause of death. But because the body was in a mummified state, he could not determine an exact cause. He said a newspaper dated Nov. 21, 2002, was found in the man's apartment and a wall calendar was opened to November 2002 — evidence the man died nearly two years ago. A cousin, Kim Dyck of Winnipeg, said she lost contact with the man after his mother died about 10 years ago, but relatives had attempted to make contact with Sulkers last summer when they were in the city for a wedding. "They knocked on his door and he didn't answer," she said. "You assume he isn't home. You certainly don't assume he's dead." She said the man's bills must have been covered by a pension cheque automatically deposited into his bank account. Neighbours said Sulkers' mailbox had become full several times and was always emptied by a letter carrier. Canada Post spokesman Brian Garagan said letter carriers are required to clear full mailboxes and inform a supervisor, who calls the condo owner. He said the corporation was trying to determine if that policy was followed. He said Sulkers' mail delivery was halted at some point but he wasn't sure when. He said he would be talking to the letter carrier on the route. Marcel Baril, executive director of the Family Centre in Winnipeg, called the situation bizarre and sad. "It's odd that we live in a society where technology can take care of our affairs like that, even if we passed away two years ago, and nobody's noticed." A spokeswoman for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada said the disease itself was not fatal but complications could be. 5. I've heard rumors that he may have had some black ancestors....on his father's side.
  6. I just miss having access to my music when on the road! Sure, you can take a few cds along, but they take up space, and you fear losing the rare ones. Sure, you can burn some, but no liner notes.....I have found that even if I take what I am sure is plenty of music for a week trip, it isn't really if you drive alot on your vacation....Always glad to get back home to a comfortable bed, your music and movies, and food! funny, one thing that I would think I would really miss on a trip is computer access, but no withdrawls at all!
  7. Don't subscribe to anything these days! I buy a few car mags like Hemmings muscle cars, Cars and Parts, Collectable Automobile ($7.95! ) when there is something worth buying them for. Used to get the Sporting News back in the day.

    Marle Green???

I love hearing songs on my Dish Network, but sometimes they don't give me much to go on...They said the singer was Marle Green, it was from a V-disc cd of girl singers, and by the time I went to Allmusic, the song( I Know That you Know) was over, and she wasn't listed there, as an artist, or someone who recorded that song.... nor was I able to find anything googling! Brownie? Anybody????
  11. Scientists to create first artificial cornea Date: August 23 2004 By Lyndsay Moss British scientists are hoping to become the first in the world to create an artificial cornea to save millions from blindness. Researchers from Lancaster University and Sheffield University hope to succeed where other teams have failed in the race to produce the implant, which could help millions of people suffering from cornea disease. The project has now received a $1.08 million grant from the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council to fund the work. Around 10 million people around the world suffer from blindness caused by cornea disease. Of these, up to half do not have access to conventional transplantation methods using donated human corneas. In some countries, such as India and China, people are reluctant to donate body parts, and even in the UK patients can wait several months for a donor cornea to be found. Nigel Fullwood, from Lancaster's biological sciences department, hopes they can develop the artificial cornea within five years. The cornea is the transparent, outer window of the eye, measuring just half a millimetre thick. It acts as a powerful lens which focuses light onto the retina. Cornea disease, which can lead to blindness, can be caused by genetic conditions, the effects of ultra violet, infections and accidents. While cornea transplants are very successful in large numbers of patients, not all conditions are treatable this way. This led the British scientists to look at new ways of restoring sight without the need to use donated corneas. Fullwood said that people had been trying for years to produce an artificial cornea that was as good as a conventional transplant, but without success. "We are using a new approach," he said. "The cornea will be made from a uniquely formulated hydrogel - a polymer which has a high water content - the sort of material that soft contact lenses are made from. "We will modify it so that it can be inserted in the same way as a conventional cornea transplant and will become fully integrated into the eye. "If we succeed, instead of waiting for a donor cornea you will be able to get one off the shelf - in a similar way a plastic lens is used in a cataract operation." Fullwood said they hoped to be able to enter clinical trials with the artificial corneas after three years. They also want to get commercial backing for the project, which also involves surgeon Arun Brahma from Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. "It would be good to think that we will have developed an artificial cornea within five years. "Our ultimate goal is always that it will result in the improvement or restoration of sight," Fullwood added. http://www.smh.com.au/text/articles/2004/0...3113049202.html

  23. Why would you close it? You didn't close the cannibal thread, unless it was closed and then re-opened. I saw the link with the very same title. I thought, geez seems a bit rough for some guy peeping in some college girl's bedroom. Then I saw it was a 5 year old girl who was beeing peeped on. Oh. Then I saw her Mom and aunt helped beat him up. Yes, even Arafat helped out! Yes, the stick up the ass was a bit much. They went too far, but...if you saw some perv drooling over your kindergarden age daughter, you might react violently as well. Bet you this guy has molested little children. Bet he doesn't do it again...at least for awhile. I couldn't think of thing to say about it B3-er. Thought I would let others comment, then comment later. Didn't know I was being held to a different standard then others that have posted and run....
  24. Well, Alice in Chains did a song at least....
