  1. Why, oh why is it that things that are good for you, are things like Brussel sprouts, Cauliflower....urine..... (GA, did you know it was me this time as well? ) Cup of urine a day keeps ailments at bay Thu Sep 2,11:11 AM ET BANGKOK (AFP) - Drinking urine can eliminate sinus trouble, turn grey hair black and even cure cancer, a Thai academic said, citing a study of local Buddhists who engage in the unorthodox practice. Ratree Cheepudomwit, of the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Development Department, said hundreds of urine drinkers attested that consuming a daily cup worked wonders for their overall health and helped slow the ageing process. She said that in June she queried 250 members of Santi Asoke, a strict indigenous Buddhist movement believed to have thousands of followers, and 204 respondents said they had learned from ancient Buddhist manucripts that drinking one's urine improved health. "Of the respondents, 87 percent confirmed that it had head-to-toe benefits for them, including for example reduction of dandruff, grey hair, sinus problems and cancer," Ratree told AFP. The medical elixir was not easy on everyone's system, as about one in 10 urine drinkers suffered diarrhea afterwards, but the practice should not be viewed with disgust, she said. "Other groups of people who drank urine were Buddhist monks who practised in accordance to scriptures which are more than 2,500 years old," she said http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=...51155&printer=1
  2. It shows that just like the Red Sox, the storm peaked too early! The was perfect just a few days ago... Hopefully, the storm will keep weakening, it is still going to dump a shitload of rain, and we saw what happened in Virginia a few days back, we saw what "just" rain can do...this storm is massive.... Oh, the Sox can weaken in a few weeks, but strengthen again in time for the playoffs...and beat the damn Yankees!!! I believe, I believe, it's silly, but I believe
  3. Report: Michael Jackson Paid Another Accuser Allegedly Paid $2 Million To Son Of Neverland Employee Sep 2, 2004 4:28 pm US/Eastern LOS ANGELES (AP) The former sheriff of Santa Barbara County says that Michael Jackson paid $2 million to the son of an employee at his Neverland Ranch in 1990 to stave off an accusation of child molestation, according to a broadcast report. In a segment set for broadcast Friday night, retired Sheriff Jim Thomas, now an NBC news analyst, said his office investigated Jackson in 1993 in connection with one boy's claim and came upon the second accusation. The first boy reportedly was paid $15 to $20 million by Jackson to avoid charges he thought would damage his career even if proved untrue. Jackson has denied ever harming any child and is currently fighting charges that he molested a boy in 2003. Jackson's lawyer, Thomas Mesereau Jr., did not immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press. Lawyers in the case are under a gag order. "We always believed there were eight to 10 other children out there," Thomas said in the Dateline piece. But during interviews, he said, "Many of them said that they had spent time with Michael Jackson. They had spent time in his bedroom, but that nothing had happened. Some wouldn't talk to us at all." Thomas said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press that the employee's son did not file charges and didn't want to testify "because he was afraid his friends would think he was homosexual." Thomas said he has discussed the boy's claim before but could not confirm until now that Jackson had paid the boy $2 million. He did not say how it was confirmed. Dateline said the settlement contained a clause providing it could never be discussed publicly. Thomas said in the Dateline report the 12-year-old accused Jackson of "fondling him through his clothes" which would be considered "inappropriate touching" and could be the basis of misdemeanor charges. No charges were ever lodged. Both boys who accused Jackson in the 1990s are now in their 20s and are not expected to testify in the current case. Jackson, 45, has pleaded not guilty to committing a lewd act upon a child, administering an intoxicating agent and conspiring to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. His trial is set to start on Jan. 31. http://cbsnewyork.com/topstories/topstorie..._246172933.html

  7. You got that right. That BBQ chicken pizza I had at 1am last night had it's revenge this morning. TMI!!! Word! Double word!
  8. Yeah, Amazon and half.com are weird, won't let the seller go up or down in price. I was surprised to see from Couw's link that they charge the customer $2.49, but they only give a seller $1.84!!! This was the Billie Holiday Verve set I sold recently (cds had scratches, box had wear, got cheap!) Buyer's Price: $79.95 (Please note Media Mail should only be used for standard shipping on Books, Music, Videos, DVDs, Computer Games, Video Games, and Computer Software.) Amazon commission: ($12.98) Additional shipping credit: $1.84 --------- Your earnings (in your Payments account): $68.81 You are required to ship this item even in cases that the shipping credit does not fully cover your shipping costs. As you can imagine, even bookrate I paid a bit more than $1.84 to ship set.... Yet, if someone overseas buys a dvd, they give me $8.95, which is way too much!
  9. Dog gives birth to kitten Date: August 30 2004 People have flocked to a small village on the outskirts of Cambodia's capital after a man claimed that his ten-year-old pet dog has defied nature and the ancient tradition of her species reviling cats and given birth to a kitten. Owner Te Huot told Deutsche Presse-Agentur that his dog, called Knou, gave birth to a grey tabby kitten after he was visited by a forest monk who claimed that the dog had mated with a tiger. He said it was only the second time in the dog's life that she had given birth, and that the first time, five years earlier, she had produced normal canine puppies. However, he claimed that last Tuesday, Knou went into labour at his Chhbar Ampou village home and produced a single kitten. The phenomenon has brought crowds thronging to Te Huot's home to burn incense and give donations towards the dog and its tiny kitten, which Te Huot says is a sign from the gods. "This animal cries like a cat, and its face is like a cat, but its feet are bigger than a cat's and look more like a dog's feet," local media quoted Te Huot as saying. However, one visitor on Friday was less than impressed. "It is a kitten," the man told DPA. "I only went to see what it looked like, but when the owner told me I had to pray to the dog, I left. I don't believe him that this kitten came from his dog." Animal husbandry experts also cast doubts on the ability of a dog to give birth to a cat, but sheer curiosity value still saw hundreds of Cambodians mobbing the bemused new canine mother in a rush to witness the alleged strange birth for themselves. 10. Money sure does help one, doesn't it? Kobe case dismissed at request of prosecution The Kobe Bryant case ... Associated Press The following statement by Kobe Bryant was issued after sexual assault charges against him were dropped: "First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo. "I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter. "I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of this case ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be decided by and between the parties directly involved in the incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on the citizens of the state of Colorado." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1872928
  11. So you end up missing Barry, you will still get to see Michael Tucker!
  12. I'm already thinking of where to put the Mosaic boxes. My guess is they'll fare best triple-bagged in one of those big garbage bags. About 2/3 of the others are already in binders, so I'm less concerned about them. Boarding up the house is going to be the biggest pain in the ass. Doesn't sound good enough, mail 'em to me, I'll take real good care of them.
  13. I was just going to start a thread on this...a day late, and a dollar short today! Seriously, hope this thing loses some steam, I heard one of those Hurricane experts say that this wasn't a "small" storm like Charlie! Not talking about wind speed of course, just the massive size of this mofo! Florida Calls for Hurricane Evacuations Email this Story Sep 1, 2:55 PM (ET) By JOHN PAIN (AP) Hurricane Frances is seen in this satellite image at on a computer screen at the National Hurricane... Google sponsored links Hurricane Frances - Live Weather Updates & Alerts WeatherBug - Free! www.WeatherBug.com Emergency evacuation - International medical and security evacuation assistance. Affiliate. www.InternationalSOS.com MIAMI (AP) - Hundreds of thousands of people were told Wednesday to get ready to evacuate as powerful Hurricane Frances crept closer to Florida just weeks after Hurricane Charley's rampage. It would be the worst double hurricane strike on one state in at least a century. Generators were hefted off store shelves, along with water, canned goods and other emergency supplies as forecasters warned the core of the Category 4 storm with 140-mph top sustained winds was due along Florida's Atlantic coast late Friday or early Saturday. Charley left billions of dollars in damage and 27 people dead when it swept across the peninsula Aug. 13. "I can't emphasize enough how powerful this is. If there's something out there that's going to weaken it, we haven't seen it," National Hurricane Center director Max Mayfield said. (AP) Meteorologist Richard Pasch studies his computer screen as he and others at the National Hurricane... Full Image About 300,000 residents in coastal areas of Palm Beach County were told to evacuate starting 2 p.m. Thursday. In Rockledge, about 45 miles southeast of Orlando, Brevard County told at least 50,000 residents to start evacuating mobile homes and barrier islands Thursday afternoon. In Stuart about 85 miles south, Martin County planned to urge up to 7,500 residents to evacuate low-lying areas starting at noon Thursday. More evacuation orders along Florida's east coast were likely. The Kennedy Space Center planned to close Thursday and Friday to allow workers time to board up their homes and evacuate if necessary, said NASA spokesman George Diller. Helicopters and planes left Patrick Air Force Base. Craig Fugate, director of the state Division of Emergency Management, said steps were being taken for to prepare for large-scale evacuations, including possibly reversing lanes of some highways to accommodate fleeing coastal residents. Frances was nearing the Bahamas with steady strength, but it was expected to fluctuate in intensity and could become a Category 5 storm with top sustained winds of 156 mph or higher, forecasters said. The storm could hit anywhere from South Florida to South Carolina as early as late Friday. Hurricane-force winds extended up to about 80 miles from Frances' center, making it about twice the width of Charley and increasing the possibility for damage, forecasters said. "The lessons of these storms are that all the science in the world and all the technology in the world isn't going to be able to pinpoint exactly where the storm goes," Gov. Jeb Bush cautioned. Records from the last century show no two Category 4 storms with winds of 131-155 mph hitting a state within weeks of each other, hurricane center meteorologist Rick Knabb said. The last time two major hurricanes hit Florida in rapid succession was 1950. Hurricane Easy hit Tampa around Sept. 4 of that year and Hurricane King hit Miami six weeks later on Oct. 17. They were Category 3 storms. Nancy Cuffaro, whose home and pizza restaurant were damaged by Charley, said she was hoping Frances would spare the area still cleaning up and recovering emotionally. She is in Port Charlotte in hard-hit southwest Florida; the greatest danger from Frances is along the state's east coast. "I know we can't withstand too much. I really don't know what to think here. I'm lost. It's starting to get to me," said Cuffaro, whose restaurant still didn't have electricity Wednesday. With the memories of destruction so fresh, many people didn't need an official heads-up to begin preparing. About two dozen people lined up Wednesday morning at a Home Depot store west of Miami, waiting to pay for items such as generators, tarps, flashlights and batteries. A Home Depot to the south in Florida City, ground zero during Hurricane Andrew 12 years ago, more than doubled its daily sales, ran out of generators and plywood and pushed $50,000 worth of lumber out the doors Tuesday, said Lisa Ftiffler, assistant store manager. "We are completely out of stock of plywood," she said Wednesday. "We are waiting on another truck. We have people since 5 a.m. waiting for generators and the plywood." North Miami Beach resident Lorraine Lewis bought a small cooking stove in case of emergency but wasn't planning to stick around long enough to use it. "I have water and plastic and a plane ticket," she said. She said she bought the ticket to New York on Wednesday, planned to cover her furniture with plastic and get out. "It will be too hot staying here without light for days." At 2 p.m., Frances was centered about 60 miles east-northeast of Grand Turk Island southeast of the Bahamas and 700 miles east-southeast of Palm Beach. It was moving west-northwest at around 15 mph. With landfall possible on the Atlantic Coast from one end of the state to the other, wary officials watched the clock and forecasts as they grew more refined. Some schools in coastal districts already decided to close Thursday and Friday. Miami-Dade County, home to about 2.3 million people, would need 24 to 36 hours to evacuate people in low-lying areas, emergency management spokesman Louie Fernandez said. The county's decision on evacuations would need to be made over the next day or so. State officials worried about finding hotel rooms and shelters for people who may need to evacuate. Many hotel rooms in the southern half of the state are occupied by people left homeless by Charley and out-of-state emergency workers. Some schools and community centers are still being used as shelters. But Federal Emergency Management Agency officials said they were ready. "We have all the operations, all the resources that we need to respond to a major emergency," said FEMA spokesman Justo Hernandez. With top sustained winds of 145 mph, Charley destroyed or heavily damaged more than 30,000 homes and did an estimated $7.4 billion in insured damage. It was the worst natural disaster to hit Florida since Andrew caused $15.5 billion in insured damage and killed 15 people.

  17. Maker of Twinkies Delays Filing Annual Report, Hires Turnaround Firm Associated Press Tuesday, August 31, 2004; Page E01 KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 30 -- Twinkie maker Interstate Bakeries Corp. on Monday delayed filing its annual report for the second time, a move that dragged shares lower by more than 42 percent on speculation about the company's ongoing viability. The bakery giant delayed filing its annual 10-K form with the Securities and Exchange Commission after missing an Aug. 27 filing extension deadline. Interstate listed a number of reasons for the delay, and said a review by auditors could show "there may be substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern." _____Free E-mail Newsletters_____ • TechNews Daily Report • Tech Policy/Security Weekly • Personal Tech • News Headlines • News Alert In order to stave off deeper financial problems, Interstate has hired turnaround firm Alvarez & Marsal, a global company that specializes in crisis management and creditor advisory. Among the company's biggest concerns is not being able to file its annual report in enough time to keep bondholders satisfied, so Interstate has already contacted banks that manage its senior secured credit facility and plans to begin speaking with investors. "There is some possibility Interstate Bakeries could have to enter Chapter 11," Credit Suisse First Boston's David Nelson said in a report. "We continue to believe that neither Interstate's lenders nor their unions want to own baking plants but that possibility exists." Interstate would not comment about the possibility of seeking bankruptcy protection beyond a statement already released. The company said it delayed filing the report in part because of problems with data entry into a new financial reporting system that was installed June 1. Interstate said it is also uncertain about anticipated fiscal 2005 first-quarter results because of the new reporting system, and disclosed that it might not comply with debt covenants because of the delay. Interstate had previously obtained an extension to filing its annual report because of delays arising from investigations into the way the company set its workers' compensation and other reserves. The company later took a $40 million charge regarding those costs. Interstate now has until Sept. 26 to file its annual report in order to not trip a number of agreements with investors. If it misses the deadline, or if auditors raise "going concern" questions, the company might not be able to borrow any further under its senior secured credit facility. Further, missing the next deadline could force bondholders to demand accelerated repayment as part of default agreements. On Aug. 12, the company privately placed $100 million of 10-year, 6 percent senior subordinated convertible notes with institutional buyers. The debt is not rated by the major credit rating agencies. The problems at Interstate come at a time when the company has already seen shares drop significantly as consumers began to jump on the low-carbohydrate bandwagon. Besides Hostess Twinkies, Interstate manages a number of other well-known brands including Wonder Bread, Dolly Madison, Marie Callender's and Mrs. Cubbison's. Shares of Interstate Bakeries fell $3.34 to close at $4.56 during the regular session on the New York Stock Exchange, a new all-time low for the company. However, shares rebounded slightly in after-hours trading to $4.75, up 19 cents, or 4.2 percent. Interstate has seen its stock slide significantly from its 52-week high of $16.88 posted in March. Most of that drop has been pinned on analysts' criticism of the company's business plan and the bakery giant's own internal problems. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Aug30.html
  18. Pretty sure Fats wasn't ever in an MGM film. He was in Story Weather (A Fox film with amazing sound quality for a 40's film), King of Burlesque(which I have never seen) and the RKO film Hooray for Love(Which they used to run on AMC a fair bit) I bet the clips are from the soundies that they also used to run on AMC and A&E amazingly used to run. There are some tapes and dvds of those clips around and about....would be interested to know what is on this dvd though!
  19. John Kerry can save it!
  20. He got his nickname cuz he squeaked when he played!
  21. Iridescence? Personally, I prefer professional sounding words like Coppery, rainbowy! All I know is that the older the beef gets, the more rainbows show up....I know, perfectly safe...some magical by-product of protein leeching out to the surface...it's a conspiracy folks!
  22. In 24 hours of what? Reading this post? The 100th birthday of Twiggy? Be specific! I need to know whe
  23. Do ya know what I mean? You buy some expensive deli meat at your friendly neighborhood supermarket, you get home, and find a coppery, rainbowy film on the meat. Light has to hit it just right. It turns me off most of the time. I see it in ham, Roast beef, and now for the first time, Turkey! Well, my Mom thinks it's no big deal unless it is all over the meat, not just the corners...I ate it this time...cuz I was hungry! So....what is it? Is it safe? I figure it has something to do with the meat not being kept cold enough at the store/age. IF only tofu tasted better, I'd give up beef.....
  24. Imagine my disappointment... no jazz disco at all!
  25. Lon, (or any other big Lee fan) the Rare Gems and Hidden Treasures cd is interesting...just listening to it for the first time now! 9 unreleased tracks. Read that the sound was a bit hit and miss, but so far, quite good! >Amazon info on this cd<
