  3. I want to know why I am just now seeing this thread! THE BEATLES!!!! everyone else! Seriously, the Beatles when I discovered them (After John Lennon died) spoiled most rock bands, I expected all the songs on other albums to be well crafted "pop" tunes like the Beatles, they were not. I discovered the Doors, later in the 80's and they would be #2. Jim Morrison has just about the best pure voice in Rock, IMO. I like a fair bit of the Stones, but don't own any cds! Someday! If this was about the 70's, Led Zep would be 1, but they only had 2 lps in the 60s, great as they were. Any Beau Brummels fans? I only have the 3 cd set from Sundazed,(got it for just a few bucks) unreleased takes, rarites, etc...Allmusic acts like it is only for serious fans of the band, but I liked it plenty, and will dig further...someday!
  4. Sorry to hear about this! I was just going to dig around on the web for some info, checked my email first and saw an email from my Credit Union saying "We have been advised by Visa that your card number was among a large number of cards that may have been compromised through a merchant or the merchant's card processor. (Visa has not disclosed the identity of point of compromise) ! And while digging around on consumer advocate Clack Howard's site www.clarkhoward.com (He has some excellent books as well) I found this info that might be of help... The FACT Act coming our way - February 9, 2004 Over the next few months, you will see a phase in of the controversial new law called “The FACT Act.” It will basically serve to protect your identity better than it ever has been. Changes in the law are coming. At restaurants, for example, your full credit card number cannot appear on you receipt. Instead, it’s usually the last five digits showing or the type of card. Many times, thieves get our credit card number and they’re immediately off spending our money, which is known as “account takeover fraud.” You will also be able to get your credit report for free, starting around December 1. Another requirement of the law is that retailer or finance company involved will monitor your account for fraud alerts. Up until now, the retailer or company has not monitored your account. Another very positive change is that people are going to be able to contact their creditors directly about false information on your report. The report will have more detailed information about each creditor. The credit reporting industry is incredibly sloppy and terribly inefficient. Right now, it’s very difficult for people to deal with lies – or errors, as the bureaus like to call them – on their reports. Insurers will also no longer be allowed to deny coverage for medical reasons and conditions. The Federal Reserve is supposed to offer people help on this topic if they want basic financial knowledge. Clark will look into what the Feds are offering and tell you if it’s any good. Why is this law controversial? A lot of states have passed more stringent rules to give you more rights with your credit reports. But Congress chose to outlaw any state laws that offer consumers more protection than the federal government is giving you. Protecting yourself against ID theft - January 27, 2004 Clark recently published a poll on his site about identity theft. One of the questions he asked was, “How common do you think identity theft is?” About 75 percent of Clark’s respondents said ID theft is either extremely common or fairly common. Clark also asked how likely you think it is that ID theft could happen to you. Almost half of you think you “definitely” could be a victim, and another 40 percent think you “probably” could be a victim. These numbers are much higher than the typical public response, so Clark feels good that he’s done a good job of scaring you about ID theft. We need to be concerned. Only about 10 percent are not concerned at all. So, what should you do to avoid being a victim? The first thing is to buy a paper shredder. Identity thieves have no qualms about going through your trash and filling out pre-approvals for credit cards in your name. Another thing you can do is to call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT, which tells the Direct Marketing Association that you don’t want pre-approvals from credit cards in your mailbox. You’ll stop about 93 percent of credit card offers with this option. And if you carry a checkbook, don’t. If someone steals your checks and writes checks as if they are you, you could wind up in jail. It doesn’t matter if you will be cleared later, you will suffer massively if a thief gets a hold of your checkbook. So, keep your checkbook at home, and pay cash or credit instead. Even though Clark doesn’t like fake Visa or Master Cards, they are much better than checks. Justin gets help from the ID Theft Resource Center - January 22, 2004 Clark spoke again today with Justin, the Georgia man whose credit was ruined five years ago by an identity thief. The man who stole Justin’s identity went to prison for four years and is already out, but Justin is still trying to get his life back. Justin is trying to get married in May, but he’s having trouble even booking a wedding hall. Clark asked Jay Foley, founder of the Identity Theft Resource Center, to talk with Justin about how he want get his life back. Foley suggested that Justin stop trying to contact the three credit report agencies because that won’t help. Just get the credit reports and then contact each company that has a fraudulent account. Send each one a return receipt requested letter telling them to close each account. And ask each company to send back a letter affirming he was the victim of identity theft. If the companies don’t respond within 21 days, Justin will need to send a second letter. If the company fails to respond in another 14 days, Justin should talk to attorneys and threaten legal action under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Foley said Justin has the opportunity to clean up his credit by May, but it will require a lot of focus and work.
  5. I never, ever watch the new show, but the tv was on when I came out to the computer(Honest!) and I heard Bernie Koppel say that sex in heaven was......to die for!
  6. George, George, Uhmm, I mean, Jim, Jim! It's a miracle! Seriously, just throw together a best of cd, toss in some unreleased tracks,(call 'em rarites!) we'll get it...
  7. Is that your new crew, Catesta? Appearently they gave him a hummer!
  8. Sorry to hear about this! Would this have been any different if you had separate bank accounts? I am no tax expert, that is for sure, but perhaps since there doesn't seem to be much of an advantage to filing jointly,(though I guess the kid will help in the future! ) how about filing separate returns for 2003, and getting 2 personal accounts? It may not matter when married, anyone know? You don't of course have to spill the whole beans here, but....When I worked at Borders and made under 20K I always got money back from the state. Are you mainly a musician these days, and having to pay taxes out of your own pocket? Well, they always come out of your pocket, but I mean are they not being collected weekly, bi-weekly? Are you doing your taxes yourself?? Might be worth paying someone to dig around to find any/all deductibles.
  9. EKE, glad to hear you are well, too! Hope everything will be calm from now on, and we look forward to you posting again!
  10. Patricia, Interesting bio! He was young, and from a few music shorts for Vitaphone I have seen(I have a Dawn of Sound LD box set I got cheap years ago-with Eddie Condon singing, and Pee Wee Russell as well!) the other thing I was struck by is how small he looked! I mean, like 5 foot 4, and weighing 120! Once you see him on film, I think you have to have even more respect for him, he just plain doesn't look like a jazzman! And Condon would agree that he wasn't one! He was though....The more I have heard of him thru the years, the more I like him, at least his playing....He and Miff never made a bad record IMO.... EDIT...No, Pee Wee is not singing, just part of the band! In fact, for the longest time I thought it was a very young Benny Goodman, not Pee Wee, and thought it was funny to see Benny without glasses. Then checked it out later, and decided it was Pee Wee. Watch Brownie prove me wrong!
  11. I don't know when AMG finally fixed it, but did anyone else notice that if you typed in Louis Armstrong, under artists, it pulled up only Louis Armstrong Alumni! You had to then switch over to titles, type in his name, and then click on the first cd with his name as a title of a cd, THEN you could pull up the bio and all the cds!
  12. Interesting info guys! Well, hadn't put the jazz station on since this afternoon, and the 2-3 song that played was Back O' Town Blues, same record! So, I saw it was from the Forlane label, and that brought up this cd... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...7753398-2328116 Now, to my ears, the sound was not that bad on my TV speakers, but terrible thru the various media players at amazon...plus, the cd is out of print as well...but might be worth finding used.
  13. Well, wasn't quite sure if language was going to be that big a deal or not...to seem old(I am not THIS old) As a kid, I loved hearing Bob Newhart old records(Usually on airplanes) I think his humor is pretty darn universal, just don't tell the kids how old this album is! I was thinking Steve Martin, but then I remembered some lines from his records "GRANDPA.......BOUGHT A RUBBER!" and then the joke about his girlfriend having a such a nice pussy(He was talking about her cat, of course!) and then the joke goes on from there.... How about Jean Shepard??? Safe, and funny!
  14. Egad, forgot all about the early days with them playing in La la Land! With Paul Howard, right? I guess I was just thinking 40's on, it would seem like they would be naturals together, except for ego issues... Chris, what are you holding back on us????
  15. They have been running the clip over and over on Espn, damn! I have seen nasty hits before(Which the NHL and espn love to show us a million times over) but this one, jumping on a guys back, forcing him to dive head first to the ice....bastard should be retired, not just suspended for what little is left of the hockey season.... Associated Press TORONTO -- It will be awhile before Steve Moore gets back on the ice for the Colorado Avalanche. Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks might have to wait just as long. Clement: Cowardly Act Bertuzzi Todd Bertuzzi deserves to be suspended for 20 games for his attack on Steve Moore. It was a cowardly, premeditated act against a smaller player that did plenty of damage. Even worse is that Bertuzzi went after Moore from behind. A suspension lasting 20 games would potentially cost Bertuzzi seven playoff games and send a message to the rest of the league that this type of behavior is not allowable. But it should be pointed out that, were it not for the NHL's instigator rule, this situation would likely have resolved itself back on Feb. 16 after Moore knocked Canucks captain Markus Naslund out for three games with a concussion. Any player deemed the instigator in a fight earns an extra two-minute minor penalty and an additional 10-minute misconduct. But without the threat of additional penalties the Canucks would have been able to police the situation immediately, send a message and be done with it. As it is, though, the instigator rule is allowing certain players to skate around using their sticks as weapons without fear of retribution from the other side. I have yet to meet a player or coach who likes the rule. Abolishing it would be a good thing for the game because teams would then have the ability to regulate themselves before the league has to step in. -- ESPN's Bill Clement Moore will miss the rest of the season with a broken neck, the result of a sucker punch from Bertuzzi. Moore also sustained a concussion and deep facial cuts, and he will remain hospitalized in Vancouver indefinitely. Bertuzzi, an All-Star forward for the Canucks, was suspended indefinitely pending a hearing at the NHL office in Toronto on Wednesday. The hearing, which had been scheduled for the morning, was delayed until the afternoon to give both sides more time to prepare, said Gary Meagher, an NHL spokesman. B.C. Solicitor General Rich Coleman and Vancouver police are investigating, the second time in four years police have looked into an on-ice hit at an NHL game in the city. "It doesn't matter what the score was, what the time was, what the place was, what the history was, there's no room in our game for that," Colorado coach Tony Granato said. Bertuzzi slugged Moore in the side of the head late in Monday night's 9-2 Colorado victory. He hit Moore from behind and drove his head into the ice. Moore landed face-first -- with 245-pound Bertuzzi on top of him -- and lay in a pool of blood for several minutes before he was removed from the ice on a stretcher. "All I'm concerned with is he regain his health," said Pierre Lacroix, Avalanche president and general manager. "All legal matters and all medical matters, I don't want to think about." Bertuzzi's punch appeared to be retaliation for an open-ice hit Moore delivered to Canucks captain Markus Naslund last month, knocking him out for three games. Vancouver players had vowed to get even with Moore for that hit, which was not penalized. The Canucks did not go after Moore in last week's rematch in Denver, a 5-5 tie attended by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Naslund said he didn't believe Bertuzzi planned to hurt Moore. "He tried to do something he thought was right for his team, to challenge someone," Naslund said. "He wanted to make a point that you don t go out and hit our players." Bertuzzi's punch and its aftermath sent shock waves through the league, with players condemning his actions and calling for tough penalties. "As NHL players, we get fired up and sometimes do stupid things on the ice, but nobody wants to see injuries to the extent of Moore's," Detroit Red Wings veteran Brendan Shanahan said. Even the NHL's so-called goons were appalled. "It doesn't matter what your name is, this is not right," said the Calgary Flames' Krzysztof Oliwa, a well-traveled fighter. "This is not hockey; this is being cheap." Wayne Gretzky said it was an example of something that can happen in a sport that often turns violent. "It's a very emotional game, and you can quickly lose your temper and lose your focus," the Hall of Famer said in Lakeland, Fla., where he was watching the Toronto Blue Jays-Detroit Tigers game. "What happened was wrong, and I am sure that nobody feels worse about it than Todd." When Moore's condition improves, he will be transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver and evaluated by neurosurgeons, the Avalanche said. "Steve knows he has the support of the entire Avalanche family and hockey fans throughout the world, and we hope that he recovers as soon as possible," Avalanche president and general manager Pierre Lacroix said. Vancouver general manager Brian Burke said that Bertuzzi was "too distraught" to attend Tuesday's news conference but that the Canucks right wing tried to contact Moore at the hospital. "That to me shows the sincerity more than any statement that we could issue," said Burke, who will fly to Toronto to be with Bertuzzi at his hearing Wednesday. "He's remorseful, and relieved that Mr. Moore's injuries at this point appear, that a full recovery should be possible," Burke added. Bertuzzi was an All-Star last season, when he was fifth in the league in scoring. This year, he was an All-Star again and has 60 points, 23rd in the league. "If most people knew how upset Todd was by the result of what happened they would have a different view on things," said teammate Trevor Linden, also president of the NHL Players' Association. In February 2000, tough guy Marty McSorley, then with the Boston Bruins, was charged for hitting then-Vancouver Canuck Donald Brashear with his stick. Brashear was knocked unconscious and missed 20 games with a concussion. McSorley was convicted of assault with a weapon, but he received an 18-month conditional discharge, meaning no jail time and no criminal record after probation. However, his one-year suspension from the NHL ended his 17-year career. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1754963
  16. Well, that is what I think popped up on my Dish Network digital radio....I just caught the last half of the song, I think it said it was from 1947, it was a version of Tiger Rag, with a shall we say very energetic drum solo? I was wondering if it might be Lionel Hampton on drums, sounded like his style. Never heard of Lionel ever playing with Louis, did I miss it? How many questions can I ask in a few lines anyway? Anywho, allmusic shows 594 versions of Tiger Rag, and most seem to be by Louis...Didn't find a mention of Louis/Edmond Hall cd in the general page on Louis there...but sometimes they mess titles/subtitles up on their site...so, anyone know the 411????

  22. ok, I decide to bid on some car magazines that someone has bundled in groups of 2...each one of these 8+ sets has one bid,(Each starts at 1.99) by the same person(At least on the three I bid on ) Ok. . so, I put in funky prices for some reason, I bid $3.22 on the first one, and sure enough, it makes me the high bidder at 3.22. Hmmm. So, next auction, I bid $2.99, and I am outbid, it is at $3.00 now. The 3rd auction, I bid 3.23...I am the high bidder, at 3.23!!! My head hurts! How can this be? Am I bidding against a fellow funky bidder who goes up a penny on each auction? I would understand this more if there were reserves, there are not any....
  23. Slant 6? 318? 440?
