What a brave man you are! I was too chicken to seek it out and just hoped the Giants would win by now. Thanks for that though, as for a second I made myself think I got it. For real! My Dad isn't much of a baseball fan, but asked...tried to regurgitate what I read from memory...lets just say it didn't go too well!

Bill, people that just see the occasional Braves game on ESPN, or when their team plays the braves, just don't know how bad he is, do they??? Players LOVE him, will run thru walls for him(And keep playing when they really should be on the DL, like Prado, and earlier in the year with Heyward)...he's calm and steady...but...a guy can be cold a month, and he will keep running him out there. Then, you reach a certain point and you won't get another chance. Troy Glaus' knees were killing him, they finally put him on the Dl, he plays some 3rd at AAA, but would Bobby think to put him over there and moving Infante to left(before Prado was hurt) to try to get the anemic offense going? No, of course not! Just keep running out the same failures every day. I think Melky Cabrera has proven himself to not be an everyday outfielder (.256 BA, .319 OBP, 4 homers, sure tore apart the girlyman NL didn't he?) He has 42 RBIs in 457 AB's and keeps screwing up in the outfield. Eric Hinske, in 279 AB's has 11 HR's and 51 RBIs! He has exactly 2 starts in September. Melky 13 starts. And yes, the teams seem to choke when they are behind in the standings, or in a game. 2-0 seems insurmountable most days. Just like it would in the playoffs....sigh....

Suggest Some Robert Mitchum
BERIGAN replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
That stinks. It's time (past time) to do away with this "region 1, region 2" crapola. "One region for the whole world!" that's my rallying cry. There are hacks out there to make some DVD players region free. Read about one for a Philips player I have(read about it on an amazon review!) and it seemed to work via the instructions, but I have not had the moola to buy anything overseas to see if it would work...here is a list I just found on the web http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/philips-dvp-642/4117 -

Suggest Some Robert Mitchum

Since the main one's have been mentioned... An interesting movie. And Mitchum does a very admirable job of sounding Australian (at least to this American's ears) A good early role, but more Robert Ryan's movie. Never seen it, but for a later role, I hear good things about The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) -
Ha, I was just going to post this! Amazing, 105 from a lefty....hopefully he holds up, his mechanics look much better than Strasburg's

J.H. I don't know...the easy answer in the petrified Bobby Cox. No change in batting order. Martin Prado desperately needs a few days off. Troy Glaus, who hasn't really played in a month(some time playing 3rd at AAA) and is still 3rd in RBI's could play 3rd. Nah, lose with what you are losing with. But, to be fair, the pitching , especially starting, is really gone south in a hurry. Tim Hudson sucked tonight, but people(People like the dunce in the dugout, man I just can't help myself!)forget he pitched only 42 innings last year, and it really would have made sense to skip him a start or two back when they had a 7 game lead. J.J. Jurrjens has some tear in his knee, which probably explains why he hasn't been good of late. Scratched again for Sunday I read today. Mike Minor has pitched more innings this year between the minors and majors than he has ever before, and has admitted to being fatigued. Beachy was supposed to start in place of him, now it will be J.J.J. I assume. Bobby has far too much pride to ever have Kawakami pitch for him again. He'll show him who is boss. And you know when things really seemed to head south??? Right around the time Kris Medlen went down and needed T.J. surgery in early August, think they have been a .500 team since then.... Clearly, starting pitching is not a strength right now, and it's really a bad time to have this happen. Did I mention Bobby Cox is slightly dumber than a bag of rocks?

One Family's Special Gift: An Organ Donation

That's great! I'm envious- it was rocking! I haven't been to CBP since April the first year it opened. I'm enjoying everthing from afar. I signed up in a drawing to win the right to buy playoff tickets.....we'll see. I was a season ticket holder from 1988-1992 (16 game plan) and the year I move down here they go to the WS. They are a scary-good team right now. Halliday will win the CY. Hey- a free agent is finally doing well in Philly! I still have nightmares about Lance Parrish and Danny Tartabull. JH, glad you got to see that game, must have been something in person! I think I heard Halladay was the first Phil pitcher to get to 20 since Carlton, and the first right hander since Robin Roberts! vajerzy good luck on those playoff tickets!

Yep, payback time indeed!!!! You know everyone in Philly has been talking about the pitching match ups and how seemingly lopsided they are in favor of the Fightin's. I don't understand why the Braves didn't look at the schedule a few weeks ago and move Hudson and Lowe. Maybe it will work out for them and they will take the next two vs. the Roys but I wouldn't put my money on that happening. Halladay has owned the Braves so far this season and even though he's pitched pretty poorly of late you have to expect him to have a bounce back game tonight throwing on an extra day of rest. As an extra incentive he'll be going for win #20 tonight. Wednesday is Oswalt, who has been lights out in August/September. And then you have to play against the big 3 again for the final 3 games of the season. Additionally, Lidge is starting to look more like 2008 again. He was throwing some nasty, filthy stuff last night. So the Braves have their work cut out for them. Bobby Cox is just like Wile E. Coyote, he's a supppper genius, do not question him! I did see one argument, a weak one, but perhaps Cox thought it was a better idea to sweep the Mets than run the best pitchers with the Phils knowing the Phils still have a better offense, but that's giving Bobby way too much credit, IMO.

Maybe La Russa can scoot over there. Hey, for a year or two, I'd be ok with him! I'd rather see the pitcher batting 8th, than Jason Heyward batting 2nd for months on end...would you have your 2nd best home run hitter hitting 2nd?? Well, would you??? And Brandon Beachy will make his MLB debut tonight.... Kenshin Kawakami, a guy who has beaten guys like DiceK and Roy Halliday in his career???? He's in Bobby's doghouse....for some reason....I guess for being unhappy for being taken out of the rotation after giving up 2 hits in 7 innings In late June, then not getting in any game for 3 weeks. WTF Kawakami??? Bobby is a HOF'er, don't question his brilliance!
-
I really hope you're referring to the baseball team I am not looking forward to this big series with the Phils, Phil Phans... You guys have 3 #1's going against us and we have....JJ. Jurrjens , who has sucked the last 2 starts, who also has a bad knee(Brandon Beachy may make his ML debut if JJ can't pitch! ) Then Mike Minor, who has something like 10 starts in the majors, then Tommy Hanson, a guy with little more than a year's experience in the big leagues...oh yeah, gotta love it... How come your manager is smart enough to figure out how to have his best, most experienced starters lined up, while our HOF manager(Statistically one of the top 5 all time I hear stoopid stat heads say on tv) had Derrek Lowe and Tim Hudson pitch against the Mets??? Perhaps said HOF manager is really a maroon??? It really helped him to have 3 future iron men HOF'ers in the rotation all those years. And don't forget, Steve Avery was better than all of them come playoff time....people give Dusty Baker so much grief for what happened to Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, well check out how overworked Avery was early in his career.... Don't think Bobby Likes lefties...must have had trouble hitting them as a player...Look at what the dim bulb has done to the best arm on the team(according to Billy Wagner) Rookie Jonny Venters. 71 games so far, and he wasn't even with the big club the first two weeks of the season! Yeah he's good, 1.76 ERA. But, imagine if some rookie manager had pitched a rookie(ok he's 25, still he was a starter in the minors) or any pitcher in 3 straight games (4 out of the last 5) BEFORE the biggest series of the season! With no days off!!! They'd be calling him every name in the book. But, Bobby gets a pass...he won't be here next year. It will just be bad luck that will cause Venters arm to be sore next year so he can't be the next closer after all. Just like it was bad luck that caused lefty Will Ohman do have serious arm troubles after leaving the braves in 2008.(After pitching in a career high 83 games) And more bad luck that struck lefty Mike Gonzalez this year after leaving the braves. Oh sure, he pitched in 80 games last year after never pitching in more than 54, but that had nothing to do with it...it was just his time... Can you tell I really, really won't mind seeing another manager in the braves dugout next year???

Well, a player finally got injured by a stupid maple bat exploding....will this finally get them banned? Why do I think it will take more than just a season ending injury to have that happen? http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5592592

I would take a little shaky from most of our starters right now...Lowe pitched the best game his 2 years with Atlanta,(with a bone chip lodged in his elbow joint!) only to be followed by the second bad start from Jair Jurrjens and Mike Minor gave up a grand slam to some Nats outfielder with a .132 ba before the hit...was ok other than that, but no offense. DLee seems more or less washed up. We don't have a steady left fielder, or center fielder. Kinda hard to win anything with 3 question marks ...and I would argue the braves have the best bullpen in baseball, and its not likely to matter.....

Have a good one! Say, do you think the Red Sox can somehow get back in it???

Duh! Tell us something we don't know! Like your S.S. # -
Man, did you all see this story on Eric Show???? I took an instant dislike to him. Didn't like anything about him. Sitting on the mound when Pete Rose got the hit to pass Ty Cobb. Him hitting Andre Dawson in the face with a pitch(I had forgotten about that til it was brought up in this story) Had heard about him being a racist. Hell, I didn't like his mustache! But, you never know what someone has gone through, that's made them the way they are.... He was a jazz fan to boot.... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=5543839

The funny thing about the baseball gods is that despite an injury riddled season and not having Youk & Pedroia it all comes down to Papelbon,Take away his 7 BLOWN saves and the Sox are leading in the wild card race! That is kinda amazing...still think that Francona should be voted manager of the year. That's not a realistic situation. I don't have the stats in front of me but he must average 4 blown saves a year. You can't eliminate all of his blown saves and say they should be leading the wild card. He ain't Mariano Rivera. So, realistically, you could say that if papelbon hadn't sucked donkey dicks this season then they might be closer to playoff contention. And don't forget, blown saves don't mean the team didn't come back to win the game anyway. Billy Wagner has blown 7 saves for the braves, but I know at least 3 of them were just allowing the other team to tie the game up. Brad Lidge has only blown 5 saves, but he was on the DL a couple of times this year. I think when talking HOF worthy closers in the future, the sheer number of saves should only be a part of determining if a closer gets in or not...and the conversion percentage should be the most important factor. Trevor Hoffman got 600 last night(Or the night before? I was behind on my recorded baseball tonights) but his conversion percentage was only a percent or so below Mariano Rivera which is quite impressive...especially since he has not been very good the past two years...

Man the braves suck right now....even the Pirates can clean their clock right now....toss any ol' leftie with a pulse, and they turn into a bunch of 90 year old grannies at the plate...I think the Phils will take the east at this point...

He's MLB's next Milton Bradley. Two weeks ago here in Philly some fans were heckling him and he got so pissed off he turned around and fired a ball right into the stands. It hit a fan, who by all accounts had not been one of the hecklers, in the head. Lucky for Morgan the fan declined to press charges. What an ass. it's too bad, he seems like a very likable guy, at least from what I saw during a spring training story. But this is beyond bush league. I didn't even hear about the ball into the stands thing til a few days ago(never saw the footage) then last week (I think) he bumped hard into the Cards back-up catcher (Who was standing up two feet away from home plate) and was called out since Pudge was pushing him to go back to the plate he missed touching(Teammate can't touch you for some reason, learn new rules every day) He needs to be suspended for 2 weeks at least....And good for Gabby clothes-lining him!

Jazz and Culture in Tallahassee and Jacksonville, FL
BERIGAN replied to BeBop's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Lived in Jacksonville for 10 years, don't exactly remember it being a jazz town at all, but that was a long time ago.... but, it's not that far(Hour drive or les) from St. Augustine, which is a pretty darned cool city on the ocean, if you haven't been there before....It's still cool even if you have been there before. -
First the Braves lost Kris Medlin for the year to TJ, now Derek Lowe will miss the first start of his career because of elbow issues...but, unlike the last several years, the braves actually have some spare starting arms, so should be ok if he is done for the year.... And in more Braves news (Yankees and Red Sox fans, just skip this post, there will be several posts about your team(s) very soon I am sure! ) the Other Braves 20 year old phenom Freddie Freeman, makes his debut today, starting against the Mets. Nice story about him here... I am confused, Braves fans are acting like he can be on the playoff roster(there was no link but someone was saying GM Frank Wren was saying this) but how can he, unless someone new goes on the DL that was on the team before Sept. 1???
