  1. No, this is the only Stitt Prestige album that hasn't come out on CD. It did however turn up on a blog recently (if I'm allowed to say that).
  2. Söderling actually only had his serve broken once against Federer in this very tournament and yet lost in three straight sets, 4-6, 6-7, 6-7. One of his best matches ever. That said, Söderling broke none of Federer's serves, whereas Roddick broke them twice. Roddick actually won three more games than Federer. What he must grieve at the most must however be that he had 6-2 in the tiebreak in the second set and yet lost it. 2-0 in sets there and he would have won. He came very close to it anyway. The way the match looked, I thought he deserved to win.
  3. I just put in an order and it showed the correct shipping amount all the way through. Perhaps you should try again? There may have been some temporary glitch.
  4. Strange. They say $4.99 per shipment + $1.99 per item to UK and Sweden. I ordered a fairly large number of Collectables CDs from them a couple of years ago when they had a sale, and the shipping amount was reasonable. It must be the summation that goes wrong?
  5. Going from memory they are quite decent. A little less clarity than on professional recordings of the time, but certainly more than listenable. You can listen to samples from the Andorrans' rip on Amazon. I don't think you will be deterred.
  6. That's an interesting theory. And if so, also somewhat of a deviation from the New Testament philosophy? Edison is on all Basie sessions for about a year until Fall 1967, including live ones, so he seems to have been a permanent member during that time. He would also occasionally sit in, both before and after, for example on Standing Ovation from 1969.
  7. Those were difficult times for Swing Era veterans. Keep in mind that Eldridge hadn't recorded an album under his own name since 1960, and, apart from that one Jonah Jones-styled affair, not since 1957. The Basie band may have provided a safe and stable income in what was lean times for Eldridge.
  8. Sold for $6,600! That's slightly less than $7 per CD.
  9. The Eldridge/Basie discography looks like this: Basie Swingin', Voices Singin' (20-22 June 1966) live performance at the Newport Jazz Festival (4 July 1966) [4 tracks have been on European bootlegs; most of this extended set remains unissued. Jimmy Rushing is also present.] The Nifty Cat Strikes West (July 1966) [Eldridge sextet album with four members from the Basie band (in addition to Eldridge himself also Grover Mitchell, Eric Dixon and Norman Keenan) plus a fifth (Louie Bellson) who frequently subbed in the Basie band in the 60s. The pianist (Bill Bell) naturally was the only non-Basieite.] Broadway Basie’s Way (18 Aug-8 Sep 1966) By the way, Broadway Basie's Way and Hollywood Basie's Way (the latter recorded after Eldridge had left) were recently reissued on an Andorran twofer CD.
  10. Did anyone see the England-Sweden semi-final match in the U21 European Championship? England with Theo Walcott had 3-0 after the first half, but in the second Sweden came back to 3-3 and even was close to a 4-3 goal. In the end England clinched it in a penalty shoot-out. Very entertaining game. Marcus Berg scored 7 goals in the championship, including 2 against England. His value must have been raised considerably on the market after that. The final is tonight between England and Germany.
  11. Are you aware that there is no overlap between these two sets? The new Canadian Verve box has the 1959 stereo albums with the drums trio, whereas the Avid set has the 1951-54 mono albums with the guitar trio.
