  1. That's right, it was the first batch without the Cactus crap. During those years CD Universe got a lot of business from European board members...
  2. I have a CD on a label called Dance Band Days that has more tracks from these sessions. But even the two CDs combined are very incomplete, since the discographies list 50 tracks, including some with a small group from the big band. However, Hep is soon coming out with a double CD called The Complete Thesaurus Transcriptions, which then should have it all! I think this is one of the most exciting reissues in recent years, and I'm surprised it hasn't been done much earlier. The sax section was reminiscent of the Second Herd: Herbie Steward, Frank Socolow, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims & Danny Bank and the band otherwise included people like Don Fagerquist and Jimmy Raney. I urge everyone to buy this set and support the great Hep label which allegedly is experiencing difficult times.
  3. The LPs appeared on a blog earlier this year, so when I later saw that an Andorran release was coming out, I wondered whether it was lifted from those blog rips.
  4. I always use it when I buy from those places. I have it as a separate bookmark which still works: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/aff_search.php
  5. WTF? I'm taken aback by this change.
  6. European EMI releases between July 2003 and May 2006 had it. Note that some of these have been reprinted later without any "copy control".
  7. Guitarists Lawrence Lucie, 101, and Huey Long, 105. Both played with Fletcher Henderson!
  8. Not on CD, but it appeared on a blog fairly recently. There are also several unissued Reuben Wilson sessions on Blue Note during 1968-70.
  9. Surely Duke Ellington must be mentioned in this context. He has 1162 sessions according to Lord (1057 as leader!). Even some of Duke's sidemen are up there. Harry Carney has 1056 and Johnny Hodges 991.
  10. The trio with Scott La Faro in general, and the 1961 Village Vanguard recordings in particular (recorded 10 days before La Faro was killed in a car crash). Not that you really can go wrong with any recordings by Willie "Fingers" Evans.
  11. No, unfortunately not.
  12. You mean Sam "The Person" Taylor?
  13. Is the Monterey Jazz Festival series already going out of print?! Geez, I thought those just came out!
  14. Here is a list of their Mosaic Selects. I googled for reviews and read those at pricegrabber.com for example. They do have over 99% positive feedback on eBay, but that doesn't necessarily say much, since it may be for in print items. I'm a bit sick and tired of sellers claiming to have something in stock, and when you order it, then some days later you get an e-mail saying that the delivery is delayed and that they will try to get it, which they of course never do, since it's OOP. In the meantime while you're waiting, other options disappear. I'm sure many here know that story too well!
  15. I wonder the same thing. They show most of the Selects from the Mosaic Armageddon and list them as "Stock: Available" and "Usually Ships In 1-2 Days". But when reading online reviews I encountered someone saying that they list things as in stock that they don't actually have, so I have my doubts.
  16. Didn't something similar happen to Woody Herman? His manager kept his tax money instead of paying it, so when the IRS came after him, Woody was forced to keep touring despite failing health.
  17. So it's OK to talk about Stan Getz again? -_-
  18. Great, I just bought the Patton elsewhere.
  19. Wow, I just read about this. I was intending to get most of those sets eventually. I'm devastated.
  20. I'll stick with the OJC CDs. They have it all, including the non-Coltrane tracks.
  21. Last Friday a 37-year-old man was the first to die from swine flu in Sweden. But this is just starting.
  22. Well, I actually have a recording with the trumpeter Buddy Bolden. He recorded with the Ellington band. This is not a joke!
