  2. Swing Street Cafe is pretty good. David T. with Joe Sample and James Jamerson (uncharacterestedly subdued but groovin' Jamerson). Really nice versions of Halleluhah I Love Her so and Next Time You See Me and a few other R&B classics.

  7. Lou Rawls sang on quite a few Sam Cooke recordings. Having A Party is one that comes to mind (it was the flip side of Bring It On Home and was the bigger hit at the time, although both got airplay). Both Sam and Lou had been with The Soul Stirrers prior to their pop music careers.
  8. Jim. BIG THANKS !
  9. Lou has been a favorite singer of mine since the 60s. I wish him well. I saw him around 5 or 6 years ago. The guitarist with him then was David T. Walker and the MD was H.B. Barnum.

  12. Agreed. I've been recommending this book to many of my friends.
  13. This is the edition I used to have, but I just rebought it in order to reread it. The SIREENS put me in the mood for more Vonnegut.
  14. That's the one. Yuck! ← Same one I remember being vaguely embarrased by all those years ago, too. ← THAT'S THE ONE ! I just finished rereading it from that edition. I enjoyed it as much or more as I ever have in the past.

  20. Yeah...agreed. In general the show has deteriorated - but it's still among my favorite shows...Plus there are a lot of exteriors filmed near whem I work and live, so I often recognize locations.
  21. They're filming The Sopranos in Paterson yesterday and today - a couple of blocks from where I work. I can't wait for the new season.
  22. Agreed. In addition to the above, Ben sounds great on the Verve Billie Holiday recordings he participated in. He's one of the reasons why I enjoy those recordings of Billie's so much. Every time he solos it's a gem.
