  2. Joe Zangara was from Passaic. He shot and killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak in the early 1930s. A lot of people believe it was a mob hit and Cermak was the intended target - some people think FDR was the intended target. Zangara kept his mouth shut. There is a St Joseph's Hospital in Paterson - I was born in it. There is a Lou Costello Memorial Park in Paterson (it pops up in some Sopranos episodes) and a newly named Lou Costello Boulevard. Also a Lou Costello Pool and a Lou Costello Gym. Apparently Randy Twizzle knows the area !

  4. In New Jersey a DWI is going to cost you nearly $10,000.00 over the next 3 or 4 years !
  5. If you're llooking to sell them, carefully glue them together using something like Lepages. Really take your time and do them "right". If you're going to keep them, just leave them be. Keep the records in them (in a decent inner sleeve) between the jacket parts (which usually don't come completely apart).

  9. I just gave them to friends who I thought would dig them and who still played cassettes.

  11. This should have most of the local venues. I didn't see Trumpet's in Montclair NJ listed, and another possiblility (altho I haven't been following the events there) is the "Club Bene'" in Sayreville, NJ WBGO JAZZ LISTINGS Edit to add: When it says "closed" on the link I think they mean just that night, not a permanent closing.

  13. ...and BTW. It was called "Tony's Fish Market" because you would enter into a a small fish market (2 or 3 display cases) with a few small tables in the back. There was an entrance on the right into the showroom. Cat's singing Cole Porter in a fucking fish house like it's the Copa in 1955... The Teardrops were at the Copa Lounge for years in the 60s.
  14. I gotta tell ya ...this "Tony's Fish Market" thing really has me wondering. I did a long gig - over a year at a "Tony's Fish Market" in New Rochelle around 1978-79. It was with a semi-name local Bronx group (really a comedy act) called "The Teardrops". They had some records on Laurie and had a BIG following. The clientele that came to Tony's often included "celebrities". I remember seeing Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Lou Monte, Mario Merola (Bronx DA), a LOT of big shot mob guys, etc etc ...you get the picture. The place had really good food and was fairly large, had a second floor that looked like it also could have been a showroom, but was unused when I was there. It really fits the scenario .
  15. The quick edit is pretty cool too.
  16. This sounds like something I could definitely dig. Hey Jim, do they say if that "Tony's Fish Market" is in New Rochelle, NY ?
  17. In 1964. I was 17. My first steady gig was that same year in Greenwood Lake NY. At that time a hot spot with plenty of work. I was playing in a bar band (rock and R&B). I had a Farfisa combo organ, and played left hand bass. I HATED the sound of the Farfisa (even moreso when I would do a gig in a joint that had a Hammond and then I would have to return to the Farfisa), so I bought a Fender Bass in 1967 and that became my main ax. I played full time until around 1990 - got a day gig, but still play whenever I can.
  18. Hey...now I'm the only one there. I think we should set a regular time for no one to show up.

  20. Who's playing organ on this? I wonder why they overdubbed the organ bass... maybe the producers wanted a more "modern" sound? Duke Jethro is on organ and Louis Satterfield is on bass. Both are credited and nothing is said in the notes about the bass being an overdub. Being as both organ bass and fender bass are audible, it's my assumtion that the fender is an overdub and I suspect that (as you suggest) it's something the producers decided on for some unknown (to us) reason. Perhaps "a more "modern" sound" or maybe the mix was locked in and the level on the organ bass was too low.
