  2. Basie, Buddy, Woody, Toshiko, Thad and Mel, the Cecil Taylor 75th Birthday Big Band (not a touring organization, but lingering in recent memory), Sun Ra...who am I forgetting...?
  3. Seems like most everything they sell is $11.03, with a $1.00 discount with code. For some items, that's pretty expensive, but a good deal on, say a Proper 4-CD box. Overall, though, it scares me a bit. Quite a bit.
  4. My dog's mouth is definitely cleaner. I've never heard him say *$#^%&* or $(@. Not even +_()_@*! My teenage nephew, on the other hand...
  5. I'd estimate that more than 90% of my jazz collection is from the 1915-2004 period.
  6. Are you guys trying to make me buy that Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Mosaic set? Well, it ain't going to work. No way. Cuz I've got will power. (Arrrrghhhhhh!)
  7. Saturday 4/10. Sam Rivers at the Jazz House (Berkeley). http://www.thejazzhouse.org.
  8. Any friend of jazzbo's... Welcome!
  9. Gee, sounds like I'm not the only one who cracks a case now and again. Thanks all!
  10. Any recommendations on where to buy CD jewel cases? Better yet, just the front covers.
  11. Had the same hesitiation on the Charley Patton set.
  12. Corey Harris - Mississippi to Mali Tony Rice - Bluegrass Guitar Collection Fortunately, these are things I can pick up anytime.
  13. I haven't, but I'll betcha everyone in my old bands thinks he/she has! Hey, I'm a tenor player - we're entitled to solo all night.
  14. Inspired by the "Doesn't Anyone Else, Have No Budget for CDs?" thread, let's hear what you had to leave in the bins today.
  15. Thanks for the heads up. I'm headed back to Alviso in a few days. Wouldn't want to encounter any angry mooses.
  16. Was Sam Rivers a Wednesday Night-Only addition (with Taylor)? If so, I consider myself extra-fortunate.
  17. Sat - Up at 2:00AM Exercise until 6:00AM Work at 6:30AM End work at 6:40PM Back to hotel at 7:00PM Exercise until 9:00PM Read, eat and Organissimo (et cetera) until 10:00PM Lights out at 10:00 Sun: Same Monday thru Friday: Same Hey Americans, don't forget to set your clocks ahead, you're losing an hour of your weekend. By the way, I didn't notice Church on anyone's Sunday agenda (maybe I missed).
  18. Not to overstate things, but I believe another 'confessed' influence was Old Square Face. Old square face, old double chin, what you lookin' at me for? Ain't gonna lead me to sorrow and sin no more, no sir, no more. Too many times you got under my skin. I'm through with you old square face. Ain't gonna get me again, no sir, no sir. Old square face, what you keep hangin' around for? What's that you say? It's time to begin? Well, just once more. Might as well bring those pink elephants in. Man, I'm feelin' low, old square face. You know, you got me again, yes sir. You really got me that time.
  19. If true, this may be the one thing Blue Note has done to increase the market value of my existing collection! (I'm still marveling at the effect reissues have had on items like "No Room for Squares") Further thought: I suppose the the other thing they do to raise recording values is regularly put things out of print.
  20. Actually, I think it's 20%. Too bad it's only for one item Thanks for the fix. My bad.
  21. 25% through 8 April http://a676.g.akamaitech.net/f/676/773/90m...4/AprilNews.htm
  22. We figured it out at work one day. My math wiz coworker figured it would take me 53 years of continuous listening to hear my entire collection. ...then again, three-quarters of my collection may not be worth listening to.
  23. Can you do it in half the time in stereo? Or one seventh in 6.1 surround sound? (Hmm, what will I play on the subwoofer? Braxton contrabass sax solo work?)
  24. I bought 10,000 recordings, then quit. Well, almost quit. I'm down to fewer than a half-dozen a year. Can't tell anyone how to do it (and wouldn't presume that I should), but it can be done. Say you've got 1000 CDs. 60 minutes each. 60,000 minutes. At three hours a day (oh, I wish I had that much time to REALLY listen!), that's once through the ol' collection per year. I was to the point where I knew I'd be dead before I heard everything I owned. Now, I'm just hoping to someday get through the "C"s.
