  1. 20% almost everything thru 8/10. http://dealcatcher.com/news.asp?v=8&m=763&...6&i=33&d=080503 http://a676.g.akamaitech.net/f/676/773/90m...oncustomer.html
  2. Lady Bird was an absolute staple in my old band book, though every song listed is a true winner. Thanks Tadd!
  3. All the best, Lon!
  4. For me, it's Pres versus Hawk. Without these two, would the others even exist? Pres may be my favorite, but I'm inclined to go with Hawk as the greatest. Without him, I fear the saxophone may have been relegated to life as a novelty or circus amusement, like the trombone. (JUST KIDDING!)
  5. In my younger days, I used to wake each morning to Jimi playing 'Star Spangled Banner' (Woodstock) through an over-the-top loud stereo. And now I find Stanley Turrentine through a clock radio too aggressive? Man, I'm old.
  6. If someone disses your favorite recording, or puts down your political cause, vent here! Done right, your rant could provide just the release of steam you need, without starting a flame war. Think of it... "So what kind of drugs were you on when you 'grooved' to that lame disc?" 'Sure, Liberia today and Luxembourg tomorrow'. Obviously, this will only work if the flames are de-personalized. The separate thread just gives physical separation. Okay, just a thought.
  7. Friend of mine got me an alarm clock with a CD player. Given my love for music that can't be found on the radio, a very considerate gift. Yet, several months later, I'm still waking up to the news. Seems that I find myself unable to select a CD and remain comfortable that my selection will suit my mood when I wake up (2:45AM). I tried a couple of times, but - I hate to admit it - may have lost sleep or suffered impaired sleep second guessing my selection. And you...?
  8. 20% off CDs coupon in the weekend edition of USA Today.
  9. Uncooked rolled oats in nonfat milk with a few raisins. Man, can't beat that for hearty. Actually, since going fully veg a few years back, I don't do the milk any more; but in this application, the substitutes just don't cut it, so I suffer.
  10. Just as brownie speculated, today's was a great stage indeed! http://www.eurosport.com
  11. Ah yes, Richie. I'm fortunate to have lots of Richie on vinyl that I guess hasn't been released on CD. Very consistently enjoyable player. Nice stuff with Al and Zoot and Jimmy Rushing. Frank Rosolino too. And in his few leader dates. I'll have to pull out a few LPs next chance I get. Thanks for the reminder about this underappreciated player.
  12. Ullrich would have been burned at the stake if he had attacked. Lance and Jan were in a similar situation a few years ago with Jan in distress; Lance didn't attack and, as I recall, won a German 'sportsman of the year' (or some such) award in recognition. Bicycle road racing is very tightly controlled by protocol, etiquette and tradition (Ullrich in '96, LeMond in '85 - hope I've got those years right...) Not that there are not deviations...
  13. Joe C - I believe the technical term is 'on the lam' Thanks Joe G and Chuck Nessa
  14. I've checked out the Las Vegas Jazz Society website and know about Lon Bronson at the Riviera. Anything else worth checking out?
  15. The Django Reinhardt CD Mosaic is the first one I've bought that doesn't have a hinged cover. Yet the later-issued (?) Byrd-Adams set does have a hinge. Obviously, I'm quite upset and would very much like an explanation.
  16. Drat. Thanks for the memories and thanks for the recorded legacy.
  17. Actually, looking at the completed auctions. Basra's been bringing $10-15. Seems like it was "worth" considerably more not long ago.
  18. So, how are eBay prices in general these days (craziness aside). Seems like things are selling pretty cheap. I've got a heap of stuff to sell, much of it semi-desireable (Basra, True Blue, Symphony for Improvisers), but I don't want to be selling into a market where these things bring $10 or less. (Yeah, I know I can set minimum bids, but why go to the trouble if they aren't likely to be met?)
  19. Django est ici. Or, more accurately, Django est la'. The Django I ordered for a friend (gift) arrived. $80.26. Not bad.
  20. Though it's been over a year since I read this, based on my recollections I agree with jazzbo. Nothing tantilizing. Nothing revelatory. Nothing amusing. Nothing fun. Nothing deep.
  21. Sounds like my copy is the 'standard', with blue logo and blue and white lettering.
  22. Wasn't this on a Roscoe Mitchell album?
  23. I'd like to own a record store in Lon Armstrong's neighborhood. (Just kidding, Lon!)
  24. It's Thelonius Monk's fingerprint.
