  1. Slide performed in Indy last night as part of a big tribute to his sister Aletra, who passed away a few weeks ago. Aletra was part of the performing Hampton Sisters...who were part of the much larger Hampton family. There were 30-40 musicians taking part in the 4 hour show....rotating bands in/out every few tunes with Slide performing in several of them. Also performing was Mel Rhyne, the great David Young on tenor....and Dr. David Baker read a wonderful poem while accompanied by a duo or trio...can't quite recall. It was a great night attended by too few....but ghost (David) did join me for the show. I'll post a few shots of Slide and leave it at that...but very nice show for a great cause. m~
  2. Photos were taken in 1955 when Miles was 28...according to the photographer's wife. Apparently the negs had never been printed; they had been in an old envelope for the past 50 years. Taken by a guy named Tom Palumbo, who at the time worked for Harper's Bazaar...those the photos were not shot for them so never printed. Tom had struck up a friendship with Miles at some point and that's how the shoot came about. The story also indicates these were taken (three rolls) at Mile's 77th street brownstone. m~
  3. I've seen him a few times.....always enjoyed his live shows more than the recordings. Here is a shot I did of his daughter....Savanah....! m~

  8. I thought I would post a few of my favorite images that I made of Frank. He was a great guy and fantatic artist....RIP Mark~
  9. I've seen him many times myself...a gentle spirit. Always sitting on the bandstand with a little smile on his face when he's not playing....well... except the one time I saw him chew on the piano player after a Monk tune but other than that, a wonderful, soft-spoken guy. Hardbop's avatar is a image I made of Frank at the old Jazz Showcase! m~
  10. I picked this one up cheap at the Bastards a couple years ago and it had two identical cds in it.....a real 2fer! m~
  11. I don't know where you start with those covers and package....not a real nice one in the bunch ....but a lot of the music is killer....so I'm good with it. m~

  15. Larry, thanks for the trip dowm memory lane....wish I could have seen some of that but I'll take what I can get. Stu Katz is a great guy and very good player of both vibes and piano...told me some nice stories of when he bought his first bebop records. Funny about the "organ" story as well. I wonder of b3er carries a photo of his organ around?
  16. Thanks Larry, I will put that on the cover of my upcoming book...... Actually I love the cover of your book! m
  17. The show was excellent; primarily standards/classic by Ellington, Coltrane and so on but the guy can still play.. David switched between tenor and alto often...first time I can recall him not playing flute at least once. The club was packed during the 1st set...a little less so during the second. David is a classy guy! m~
  18. Happy Birthday David.....to a friend and fellow hoosier!!!
