    Speaker buzz

What is the "ground loop," by the way? I'm totally inexperienced with this sort of thing, so I don't have the lingo down.

    Speaker buzz

The frequency sounds low to my ears. If I were to tie wire to each of the components, what type of wire would I use? Small pieces of speaker wire? Thanks for the insights!

    Speaker buzz

The previous speakers were Infinity speakers, and I believe they were actually better than these new Klipsch speakers. Any ideas on how to get rid of the buzz? Is it possible that it's coming from the speaker wire coming in contact with other wires, such as power cables? I was thinking that better surge protectors, such as something by Monster, might help out...but I really don't know. Ideas?

    Speaker buzz

I'm hooking up some new Klipsch SP-3 speakers to my father's system for him, and now that they're all hooked up, there's a lot of buzz coming out of these speakers, but none coming out of the four Infinity satellite speakers. What could be causing this problem? I can't imagine it's the speakers themselves, but since I'm not getting the buzz out of the satellites, it makes me wonder. The cables going from the receiver into the speakers are probably not the best. Looks like they're 16-gauge or so, and are at least 10 years old. Would an upgrade help fix this? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  6. I checked AMG and this was in the entry: To see if you can obtain this rarity, e-mail to SGC2C@aol.com or snail mail at 1050 Techwood Dr., Atlanta, GA. 30318 Never seen anything like this in an album review before, so I suppose it's worth a shot.
  7. Thanks again for the great tunes, guys. I just ordered your CD and will keep my fingers crossed on a Christmas album coming out sometime.
  8. Thanks for posting that, EKE BBB. Very interesting information.
  9. Actually, you'd be surprised how well this works. I had pretty bad insomnia for a while when I lived overseas and then in my last couple of years of college. A girlfriend bought me a teddy bear and I tried sleeping with it one night, and found I slept much better. Weird...
  10. Get the Gerald Wilson. The writing is excellent, and the playing is great all around. There are a lot of excellent solos by names we all know, too. I'm not a huge fan of big band either, and this was my first big band Mosaic. I've never been disappointed. The Ellington Reprise has been a very nice surprise. I picked it up just before it went OOP. I'd never heard any of Duke's work other than the album he did with Coltrane, so this was a bit of a gamble. I've found everything great so far, even the Mary Poppins album. I'd pick it up before the prices go crazy on eBay.
  11. Try it now. I just tried it and the list of titles was back up.
  12. Curtis Amy. Had never heard his music before buying the Mosaic Select, but I'm having a blast with it. A very nice surprise!
  13. Is this set really that difficult to find? Starting bid of $299???
  14. This was the first Evans album I ever bought and have always loved it. After that, I went for "Conversations with Myself" and "Live at Montreux." Since then, I've bought or been given the Riverside, Verve, Fantasy and Turn Out the Stars boxes.
  15. Very nice, Jim! Great version of a great song. Any more Christmas tunes coming, by any chance?
  16. This session is in the Ellington Reprise Mosaic, so I imagine a lot of people here have it. I have the set, but purchased it just a few weeks before it went OOP and haven't gotten around to listening to this session yet. Would love to hear other comments, however.
  17. I tried putting a couple of the items I ordered yesterday in my cart, and the value package pricing is no longer working as well. I've emailed customer service about this issue and hopefully it will be corrected in the next 24 hours.
  18. Re: the Woody Shaw set, that one's probably in my bottom five. I've always had trouble getting into this one. I don't know if it's the production or when it was recorded or what, but I just can't connect with the music. I bought the Jacquet right before it went OOP, and have only listened to a couple of discs so far. I don't see myself coming back to it that often, but it's actually better than I thought it would be.
  19. I totally agree with this, and it would give me a great excuse to go to the festival and take my wife to Chicago - she's been begging to go there ever since we moved to the Midwest.
  20. Listening to a few live albums this morning: Bill Evans - Live in Tokyo Lee Morgan - Live at the Lighthouse John Coltrane - Live at the Village Vanguard
  21. I picked up the Kenton, Basie, Powell and Ellington/Armstrong CD's. I wish there was something I could do to get greater variety, but I don't work in music.
  22. Inspired by undergroundagent's "Favorite Mosaic" thread, here's the "Least Favorite Mosaic" thread. I think many of us buy Mosaic sets that contain music we've never heard before, and since the Mosaic site often doesn't have sound clips for you to listen to, sometimes buying a Mosaic can be a gamble. So, which sets have disappointed you or do you dislike, and why? For me, two sets immediately come to mind: The Bud Shank and the Peggy Lee/June Christy sets. The Shank set just hasn't captured my interest that much. I should probably spend more time with it, but what I've heard so far hasn't really done that much for me. The Lee/Christy set was a definite gamble. I'm not big on vocals and had never heard either Lee or Christy before buying the set, but since it was only $50, I figured it was worth a try. I've only listened to the first couple of discs, but again, what I've heard hasn't done much for me. I've never sold a Mosaic before (unless it was a duplicate), but this one would be at the top of the list of box sets to get rid of.
  23. The Andrew Hill set is definitely my favorite. The Jackie McLean, Grachan Moncur and Byrd/Adams sets are also honorable mentions.
  24. Here's the picture Mrs. vibes and I used for our wedding invitation, two years ago:
  25. Rooster, you've got the right idea. The idea is that we'll make money off of other purchases that people make on the site. The free shipping aspect of the website is simply in keeping with what other large online retailers are doing. I wouldn't expect it to last forever. Personally, I feel like we're throwing away a lot of money on free shipping, but then, it's not my call.
