  1. No doubt dueting on "Baby, It's Cold Outside"!
  2. I wonder if Mr. Metheny plans on doing any more work with the Orchestrion. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to see him perform live with it not once but twice. Those were both fascinating musical events for me.
  3. I have tried several other MCC albums over the ensuing years, and while each of them has had their moments, nothing has compared to this brilliant work. If I had to, I could whittle my entire MCC collection down to just this one album -- but this one album would most definitely be a Desert Island Disc for me!
  4. Mostly a solo album, but Howard Johnson accompanied Taj Mahal on a few of the tracks here. On this tune, he is featured on penny-whistle instead of tuba:
  5. Wow hey, it's Noel Jewkes on sax! I forgot he was on this album. He's long been a mainstay on the SF bay area jazz scene. It seems like it's been years since I heard that name. I hope he's doing well. And here's today math puzzle for you -- if Mr. Jewkes celebrated his 80th birthday last year, then how old was he in 1965?
  6. If Austin Cromer is remembered at all, it's probably for his stint as the singer in Dizzy's big band and the classic recording of "Over The Rainbow" he made with that band. This is a wonderful, intimate album on which he was accompanied by Chick Corea, Richard Davis, Bruno Carr and on various reeds and guitar, Hubert Laws.
  7. Given that 2021 is going to inherit a whole lot of messy unfinished business from 2020, asking it to also be "Happy" and "New" seems quite unrealistic. I, for one, will be very satisfied if 2021 merely turns out to be a Non-Malignant Year!
