  1. I think Bud Spangler's KCSM program was only heard locally. It was an hour long Sunday night show in which he presented concerts -- usually recorded by his own Syntropy Audio company -- from various Bay Area venues. Hopefully those shows were preserved, but I have no idea if KCSM or Mr. Spangler's estate owns the rights to them. I saw Jim Cullum's band recording a "Riverwalk Jazz" program at Stanford one year and Mr. Charles Huggins, the president of See's, was in the audience. I guess he was a big fan of that band.
  2. I definitely wouldn't part with a single one of the albums Stan Getz made for Concord. See's Candies were also the major "sponsor" of Bud Spangler's "Sunday Night Suites" show on KCSM radio as well as the Stanford Jazz Festival.
  3. I feel an "honorable mention" in this category should go to Fats Domino for having the world's coolest automotive related couch in the back cover photo on his Christmas CD:
  4. While this sequel may not be up to the level of the first album (one of my holiday favorites), it's still quite enjoyable.
  5. Includes the albums I Only Have Eyes For You and Trackin', both recorded on Nov. 15, 1962.
  6. I would not expect any one to recognize an actual photograph of multi-instrumentalist (drums, guitar, banjo, clarinet, soprano sax, etc.) and former Turk Murphy band member John Gill, let alone a cartoon caricature of him, but that is supposed to be him as the engineer. While looking for that cover, however, I discovered this EP cover by, I presume, a very different John Gill.
  7. I recently found on Discogs a very reasonably priced, brand new, still sealed copy of the LP-sized version of this 9 CD set and I have listened to Discs 1 & 2 so far. I'm glad I got the large size format instead of the reissued CD-sized boxed set. The accompanying booklet is wonderful, full of great photos and it looks like it has info on every artist included here and maybe info about each and every one of the 244 tracks. It looks like must-read material and the larger size booklet will be easier on my aging eyes.
  8. This is a CD I have but apparently there was another CD released with a different photo taken at the same session
  9. It's worth looking for. It's a live recording which gives the band plenty of room. There's only 5 tracks, but the shortest track is 12 minutes long. Now playing: Lots of stellar talent represented there, but my vote for MVP of this compilation goes to Houston Person for this beauty --
  10. A 2011 release, but I only got a copy of this disc recently, so it's a first listen for me.
