Thanks folks -- for many pointers. Maybe I should look into those more recent recordings. And thanks, Lon, for the Fresh Sound recommendation. But that one seems to have only the piano trio session, and not the strings session. (Hope you are doing well in Austin, which I miss very much!) I guess I will pick this up if an opportunity presents itself. I did see a copy in an Austin used record store once, but I passed on it because it was pretty scratched up.

I've been listening to a lot of George Wallington lately. It seems most of his 1950's sessions are available on CD except for this Verve recording, which is partly a piano trio session and partly a strings session. Am wondering whether I should try to find a vinyl copy, which doesn't appear very common and maybe hard to track down. For those of you who have/know it, how is it? Thanks in advance.

I am particularly fond of the 20-bit K2 remasters that JVC put out in the late 1990's. If you have any of the following for sale or trade, please send me a message. I am looking for copies in jewel cases, with both CDs and inserts in excellent condition. I know it's a long shot, but thought I should give it a shot here. Thanks in advance. I thought the problem was that at that point, it is damaging the vinyl. This is what I am worried about.

I have a turntable I bought about 1 and 1/2 years ago. It is Rega P-1. I am wondering when I am supposed to change the cartridge? Are there any rules of thumb?
-
Anyone know whether these are regular plastic jewel case versions or mini-LP's?
-
Thanks, everyone. I take it that 2-4 weeks is for SAL, and not for Air Mail? The website says that SAL may take up to 12 weeks. I hope that is not usually the case.

Has anyone found a good/reliable way to order from Japan in this post-Hiroshi world?
-
Yes, that is why I am considering this as well. Thanks.

If anyone is familiar with this, I'd be grateful for reactions.

LF: Gerry Hemingway - Slamadam/Perfect World
Bol replied to colinmce's topic in Offering and Looking For...
These are excellent recordings. You might want to check with Georg Grawe whose label Random Acoustics is. I've seen these now and then at used record stores. -
I got this re-issue (by Rocket Records Finland) from Dusty Groove. It's an excellent hardbop quintet session with a bit of an edge. I'm not sure why exactly I took a chance on this, but I did, and am very glad I did. Some tracks available on Youtube.

Classic Coleman Hawkins Sessions Available for Preorder!

Mel Powell single? When was that scrapped? I would get that in an instant! There was a forthcoming CD that was listed, but then deleted. I believe it was a Columbia live session. -

Very glad to hear that the Lucky Thompson set is still a possibility. Thought it was dead when it was removed from the forthcoming list -- like the Mel Powell single I was eagerly waiting for. -

Just got the CD player back. It took exactly 3 months. I could swear off NAD's. But the thing is, I really love the sound of this player. Well, I'll see whether this one, as fixed, lasts. If it does, maybe I will jump in for another one for my bedroom where an old Denon currently creaks and often emits high-frequency moan.

I've sent back my CD player to North Country Audio so that they can send it to NAD to be fixed. And the people at NAD have now kept it for almost 2 and a half months. Not clear when I can get it back. Does anyone have experience dealing with NAD on warranty repairs? It seems like an ungodly long time that they have kept the player, and the guy at North Country keep saying "next week', and nothing happens. Very frustrating!

...as an LP or LP set? Would love to find out. I've been really enjoying LP versions of some of Konitz, Tristano, and Marsh's Atlantic sides that I've enjoyed on Mosaic CDs before. For some reason, I don't like the Verve sessions as much. My faves on Verve are "Motion" and "Half Note". Would love to get the latter on vinyl if it can be gotten.
