  3. Thanks. Don't know any of these except Boccherini. Boccherini's string music is available in several Virgin releases from the chamber group Europa Galante led by the violinist Fabio Biondi. These are firy performances, and also beautiful covers. Highly recommneded!!
  4. I've been listening to 2 recent CDs of string quartets by composers who were contemporaries of Beethoven, certainly not as well-known now, but still wrote very good music. These are: Franz Krommer's quartets played by Marcolini Quartet (Avi) Goerge Onslow's quartets played by Diotima Quartet (Naive) I was wondering whether people know of other quartet recordings that fit the bill. I find it interesting to hear what those who admired Haydn wrote if they did not follow Beethoven's lead. Sort of like alternative musical universe. Krommer is supposed to have written 77 string quartets, and Onslow 36!! Very few are recorded. I say bring 'em on!
  5. Just got it and listened to the first 3 tracks of Disc 7. Oh, what a glorious set!! Oh, how I wish my other favorite pianist, John Lewis, had produced as much trio material.
  6. Yes, I checked with them. But no luck. Good luck with your search.
  7. Alec, If you can check, that would be great. Those prices sound fine with me.
  8. I am looking for a copy of this with both CD and inserts in excellent unblemished condition. Thanks.
  9. Hello. If you have a copy of this that you would be willing to trade away or sell, please PM me. I am looking for one with both CD and inserts in excellent condition, with no promo or cutout marks. I don't need the cardboard sleeve. A Japanese edition of the same remaster (VICJ-2XXX, I believe) would also be welcome as long as it comes in a regular jewel case, and not a mini-LP.
  10. There is no trace of this Jeb Bishop record (or the record company) anywhere on the web. Any leads?
  11. I like Neal Caine's "Backstabber's Ball" for which Goold and Stephen Riley forms a very neat front line, and also Riley's trio recordings. Wanted to see if people like Goold's own recordings. Or do they get tedious after a few songs?

  13. Aside from Doerner, the one who has impressed me most is Imai. His guitar playing is fantastic.

  18. Great! I guess I should have read the description. I'm glad that the Mosaic folks were willing and able to get the tapes after the fire. I wish someone had been able to save those Ornette Coleman Atlantic tapes that perished in a fire. It seems that there are an awful many fires in these warehouses.
  19. It appears that either this set will include a lot of un-issued material, or there will be more recordings included than the ones that Hans lists (perhaps including the Impulse! sessions?). I am hoping for the former.
  20. Hans, I think this particular batch I am talking about are newer than the ones you have in mind. These are 91XX's whereas you are talking about 90XX's, I believe. Thanks, everyone.
  21. I've noticed that some Impulse! titles have been re-issued in Japan. Does anyone know what these sound like? Are these the 20-bit K2 remasters that were issued as MVCJ's before? Thanks in advance.
  22. Hell, that incident just made me get into his music MORE. You're a sicko, Clifford. For the record, I don't have a cat.
  23. Something like that! Just came to the conclusion that I am not crazy about his music. I get much more pleasure from other things, and I'm trying to slim down my collection a bit.
