Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered
Bol replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Great! I guess I should have read the description. I'm glad that the Mosaic folks were willing and able to get the tapes after the fire. I wish someone had been able to save those Ornette Coleman Atlantic tapes that perished in a fire. It seems that there are an awful many fires in these warehouses. -
Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered
Bol replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It appears that either this set will include a lot of un-issued material, or there will be more recordings included than the ones that Hans lists (perhaps including the Impulse! sessions?). I am hoping for the former. -
Hans, I think this particular batch I am talking about are newer than the ones you have in mind. These are 91XX's whereas you are talking about 90XX's, I believe. Thanks, everyone.
-
I've noticed that some Impulse! titles have been re-issued in Japan. Does anyone know what these sound like? Are these the 20-bit K2 remasters that were issued as MVCJ's before? Thanks in advance.

FS/FT: A whole lot of early Anthony Braxton
Bol replied to Bol's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Hell, that incident just made me get into his music MORE. You're a sicko, Clifford. For the record, I don't have a cat. -
FS/FT: A whole lot of early Anthony Braxton
Bol replied to Bol's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Something like that! Just came to the conclusion that I am not crazy about his music. I get much more pleasure from other things, and I'm trying to slim down my collection a bit. -
I would like to sell my Anthony Braxton CDs. My first priority is to sell the Mosaic set. I am selling it for a price close to what Mosaic charges, but am offering free insured shipping and some extra Braxton CDs from the lists below. I hope those are sufficient extra incentives for someone to become interested. Given this goal, I would like to hold off on selling the individual CDs below until the Mosaic goes or it looks like it won't go. Everything is in excellent condition unless otherwise noted. Paypal payments (from bank accounts) preferred. XXX: sold or on hold. $130 for Mosaic set, insured shipping, and (either 1 extra CD from List B below or 2 extra CDs from Lists C and D below). [Alternatively, I'd be interested in trading this set for the Oscar Peterson Mosaic set in excellent condition.] XXXThe Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton (Mosaic) [8-CD set; everything in mint condition; each CD played 1-4 times] $34.50 each (A) XXXAnthony Braxton, “The Complete Braxton” (Freedom Japan/TKCB 70330) [various sized groups including some duos with Corea & some quartet tracks w/ Wheeler, Holland, Altschul] XXXAnthony Braxton, “Dortmund (Quartet) 1976” (Hat Art 6075) [quartet w/ G. This is a ravishing recording. Even Konitz sounds a bit cliched in some of his recent recordings, in my opinion, when he is paired with some predictable rhythm sections. Here, he sounds like he is inventing music itself. I don't know who this Tepfer guy is, but he is fabulous -- never over-playing, always searching, and giving Lee the space to breathe. There is a performance of these two with Matt Wilson at the Village Vanguard that was recorded and made available for download by NPR recently. That is great too. I hope those 3 put out a recording soon.

Just in case anyone has a nice copy that he or she does not want.

Mosaic Select of Carter/Bradford Revelation 1970s music
Bol replied to Adam's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I take it that this set won't include the earlier Flying Dutchman material. I hope that stuff comes out some day too. -
Highly recommended: Bill Barron, "Tenor Stylings" Savoy
Bol replied to Bol's topic in Recommendations
Managed to get a Japanese mini-LP version of "Hot Line". I don't find this one as interesting as "Stylings". And to be frank, I still don't "get" Booker Ervin. -

I once e-mailed Mosaic suggesting this set, and Scott Wenzel wrote back simply saying "Yes, yes, yes..." -

Upcoming Lucky Thompson Select tracklisting
Bol replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Aren't all the Savoy sessions of Jackson/Thompson easily obtainable? It was 2-3 years ago that I got 3-4 CDs of the purple & yellow Denon versions of these sessions. The Atlantic sessions have been more elusive for me. I have one of the CDs, but would like others. Or is there just one other? Too lazy to look right now. -
Well, I adjusted the bass volume, and that seems to make it better. I do wish though that Motian was somewhat more upfront. Also, I'm not sure about Potter. He is able enough, but not very interesting. I think Bill McHenry, another frequent Motian collaborator, would have been a much more interesting choice. Less brawn, but more surprises. I know: Complain, complain!!
-
I've just listened to a couple of tracks. Isn't Motian way under-miked? Weird.

Bol replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Oh, I'm so happy about this!! Thanks for sharing this news. I believe that one of the Selects planned in the near future is the Lucky Thompson set. I heard that from MC at one point. -
Thanks folks. I just ordered a blue & clear set of the following: http://taigarecords.blogspot.com/2010/01/map-fever-dream-2xlp-available-january.html I don't have a turntable yet, and am not sure when I will. But I wanted to buy this release as it is a limited release of 1000, and I really like the group's previous CDR release.
-
I've noticed that there are some vinyl that come in colors other than black. Do these colors by any chance detract from the sound quality?
