  1. First listen. Started with El amor brujo -- with mezzo-soprano Marina de Gabaráin. Loving it, so far.
  2. Disc 1 - Tragic Overture; Symphony No. 1 Do we have any insight into why the decision-makers preferred Ančerl? Was it for extra-musical reasons? Or was it a musical thing? Just curious.
  3. Now on my turntable: Ed Bickert / Don Thompson (Sackville, 1978) Subtle, lovely music. Stickers on the cover and labels inform me that my LP was formerly property of the Duquesne University Library. However, it doesn't appear to have been checked out much. The vinyl is very clean.
  4. Ron McClure Trio - Inspiration (Ken Music, 1991) with Richie Beirach & Adam Nussbaum Fans of Richie Beirach, take note. This album is a doozy.
  5. A gorgeous rendition of the Nola classic "Just a Closer Walk with Thee": Along with Davenport, check out the amazing playing by clarinetist Herb Hall.
  6. Wallace Davenport featuring Herb Hall - Darkness on the Delta (GHB, rec. 1971)
  7. Now spinning: The MPS Rhythm Combination & Brass - Power Play (MPS, rec. 1970-71) This is the single-LP U.S. version of the 2-LP set released in Europe as My Kind of Sunshine.
  8. I found my copy on Discogs a few years ago. I got lucky because the reseller was based in the U.S. -- so shipping costs were reasonable.
  9. I finished Geddy's book a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it. As you say, it's MUCH more than than another run-of-the-mill rock autobiography. Geddy is very articulate and insightful.
  10. ❤️ Outstanding. Even better than the more well-known Black Talk, IMO.
  11. Don't think I've heard that one. Will have to check it out.
  12. @sidewinder, I'd recommend giving it a stream before making any decisions. I think it's a darn good record. OTOH, I love Bluegrass -- so I think BANJOs are terrific! You've been warned.
  13. Wow. I had no idea that The Peace Maker was fetching that kind of money. I found an original Cadet years ago -- not quite NM, probably VG+ -- for maybe 20 bucks. I love all the music that Land & Hutcherson made together, including this album.
  14. Next up: Michel Graillier & Christian Escoudé - Libra (Musica FR, rec. 1976) Lovely.
  15. Today: Last night:
  16. Some classical stuff:
  17. I agree. I think it's one of the strongest albums of Rush's later years.
  18. Yes, that's an outstanding LP.
  19. With recommendations coming from both of you, I will be checking that disc out!
