  1. I think you'd enjoy it, Gheorghe. It's an excellent record. Agreed! Last night: Now: Both albums made at the same October 19-20, 1972 sessions in Chicago.
  2. I'm just now seeing this, T.D. -- but I did the same thing on Monday.
  3. NP: Baden Powell - Solitude on Guitar (Columbia BR, 1973) I'm still transfixed by the sound this guy makes with his guitar. What an absolute master. I definitely prefer the Brazilian cover (above) compared to the cheesy image on the U.S. release: It's like the designers were trying to create an MPS-like cover -- but it doesn't come off, IMO. Instead, it just looks like something that's pitched at an easy listening audience. . . . Not that there's anything inherently wrong with easy listening. But this ain't that.
  4. Guitar: Kiyoshi Sugimoto Tenor Saxophone: Takao Uematsu Electric Piano: Hideo Ichikawa Bass: Yoshio Ikeda Drums: Motohiko Hino
  5. Ron Carter / Herbie Hancock / Tony Williams - Third Plane (Milestone, rec. 1977)
  6. Good deal. I'll have to check it out.
  7. Ugh. That's tough. . . . Hope that everyone's feeling better soon!
  8. Now spinning: Scriabin: 24 Preludes, Op.11 / Igor Zhukov (Turnabout/Melodiya) Outstanding.
  9. Darius Milhaud: Le Boeuf sur le Toit; La Création du Monde Orchestre du Théatre des Champs-Élysées, conducted by Darius Milhaud
  10. Yes! I'm especially partial to Ashkenazy's way with Sibelius' Fifth Symphony. It always knocks me out.
  11. Disc 2 - Symphonies Nos. 5 & 7; En Saga
  12. It's turning out to be an Al Haig evening:
  13. Al Haig with Jamil Nasser - Interplay (SeaBreeze, 1976) Lovely duo performances.
  14. Now spinning: Al Haig - Reminiscence (Progressive Japan, 1977) with Jamil Nasser (b) and Frank Gant (d); subsequently reissued as Ornithology
  15. That looks interesting, Peter. Are you enjoying it?
  16. Now playing: Al Haig / Jimmy Raney - Freedom Jazz Dance (Choice) originally released in 1975 as Strings Attached
  17. Now playing: Earlier:
  18. Last night and again this morning: Basie in Sweden (Roulette, 1962) Piano – Count Basie Reeds – Charlie Fowlkes, Eric Dixon, Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Marshall Royal Trumpet – Al Aarons, Benny Bailey, "Fip" Ricard, Sonny Cohn, Thad Jones Trombone – Benny Powell, Henry Coker, Quentin Jackson, Åke Persson Guitar – Freddie Green Bass – Ike Isaacs Drums – Louis Bellson Vocals – Irene Reid (track 3 only)
  19. Thanks for this feedback, @medjuck. NP: Giovanni Hidalgo - Time Shifter (TropiJazz/Sony, 1996)
  20. Pre-ordered from Dusty Groove today, two albums due to be available at the end of January 2024: Mal Waldron-Terumasa Hino - Reminiscent Suite (Victor JP) BBE reissue Irakere - Grupo Irakere (Areito/EGREM) Mr. Bongo reissue Both albums are long-time favorites, but I've only heard them as MP3 downloads. The collector in me loves that I will finally have these albums as tangible objects, and the music lover in me can't wait to hear them in higher fidelity!
