Oh, I understand that way of thinking, for sure. It doesn't make sense, but it makes complete sense.
One note: There are actually four volumes in the series. I have three (so far), but I intend to get the fourth eventually to make my "set" complete!
The original albums are re-sequenced across the different volumes. I think everything is there; it's just re-arranged. I wish the producers hadn't done that. But the music is so irresistible that I just roll with it.
That one's on my list too.
Yamashita's trio + Schoof. Can't hardly miss with that lineup.
Hopefully, Solid will re-reissue sometime. In the meantime, it's YT.
32 Jazz CD reissue
and
Arthur Blythe - Calling Card (Enja, 1995)
with John Hicks, Cecil McBee, and Bobby Battle
This is a companion disc to Blythe's Retroflection (Enja, 1994). Like that release, this album was recorded at the Village Vanguard in June 1993.
Last night and again this morning:
Bill Evans - Half Moon Bay (Milestone, 2006)
with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell; recorded at The Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, Half Moon Bay, CA in November 1973
It seems like Evans' trio with Gomez and Morell doesn't get nearly as much love as his trios with LaFaro & Motian or Johnson & LaBarbera. But I still think Gomez & Morell made a terrific unit. Consider:
- The Tokyo Concert.
- Since We Met and Re: Person I Knew from the Vanguard.
- Blue in Green: The Concert in Canada.
- This album.
All damn good records, imo.
Now spinning on my turntable:
Paco de Lucia - Almoraima (Philips, 1976)
Such a fantastic album! So many disparate things converging to make a unique stew -- just like the country of Spain itself.
Now playing:
with Kenny Drew, NHØP, and Alex Riel; recorded at Metronome Studios, Copenhagen, September 5th, 1965
An extraordinary session, even for Ben. Time-standing-still music.
I would've if I could've!
Fred McGriff, who helped the Atlanta Braves to get "over the hump" & win the World Series in 1995, has been voted into the MLB Hall of Fame.
Scott Rolen has been voted in too.
Congrats to them both.
