  2. I have nothing to contribute, but I've got to say that this thread is exactly why I LOVE this place. To say that there's a lot of expertise-that-extends-to-the-level-of-obsessive-and-delightful-nerdiness on this forum would be an understatement. You are my people!
  3. @Bol -- Maybe this? https://www.crutchfield.com/S-dR4FXfc878o/p_338REVGOBK/Victrola-Revolution-GO-Black.html?XVINQ=GZ0&XVVer=1DIE&awcr=628328329863&awdv=c&awnw=g&awug=9010791&awkw=pla-1456075109902&awmt=&awat=pla&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgaGgBhC8ARIsAAAyLfF6H3ql_wzyQmBelXc8ydOxE5QENWkLaSuYql-oHb_LqS9MWXRrDBEaAtV6EALw_wcB I have no experience with this product and no idea how it sounds -- but does have an Audio Technica cartridge/stylus. So it likely wouldn't damage your albums, unlike some others.
  4. This might be really good. Baker and Phil Markowitz were an excellent pairing -- as heard on Broken Wing (Sonopresse/Inner City/Gitanes), which was recorded just a few months before the first of these archival sessions.
  5. That's an outstanding album, imo.
  6. jazzbo, I'm going to pull that album from the shelf and play it too.
  7. Yes. He died in 1993, before his 50th birthday. Apparently, he was a very heavy drinker and smoker.
  8. Music on Vinyl reissue
  9. More from Albert Ayler's concerts at Fondation Maeght:
  10. Now: CD compiles two Fantasy LPs: Stormy Monday and Sky Street Earlier today: Yes. Sadly, Ayler was found dead just a few months after these concerts at the Fondation Maeght.
  11. Don Pullen & the African-Brazilian Connection - Ode to Life (Blue Note, 1993) Hard to believe this album was released thirty years ago. Time flies. Good stuff!
  12. I like pianist Dmitri Alexeev very much -- and that particular recording too.
  13. I like the phrase that Iverson uses to describe these sorts of things: "Gateway Drug." Of course, that's got some negative connotations -- but it also puts across what these sorts of lists are supposed to do: Offer an easy path for drawing in newbies.
  14. Glen Hall - The Book of the Heart (Sonora, 1979) Koch CD reissue Yes indeed. Propelled by Moriyama's furious drumming.
  15. Karl Berger - With Silence (Enja, rec. 1972)
  16. Akira Miyazawa Quartet - Kiso (Victor JP, rec. 1970) with Masahiko Sato (p), Yasuo Arakawa (b), and Takeo Moriyama (d)
  17. NP: Masahiko Sato Trio - Palladium (Express JP, rec. 1969) with Yasuo Arakawa (b) and Masahiko Togashi (d)
  18. Now this: CD compiles two of Ammons' Prestige LPs: The Boss is Back! (1969) and Brother Jug! (1970)
  19. Carlos Garnett - Black Love (Muse, 1974) R.I.P.
  20. THANKS, hopkins! I successfully downloaded a few decade's worth. I discovered jazz in the Eighties too, Eric. Many memories of poring through Downbeat back-issues in the basement of the University of Georgia library. Jazz Times and Jazz Journal (UK) as well. In those pre-internet days, it was the only way to keep up with what was happening! (Or what had happened.)
  21. Outstanding Mulgrew Miller with a group of -- at-the-time -- young guns.
