I have nothing to contribute, but I've got to say that this thread is exactly why I LOVE this place. To say that there's a lot of expertise-that-extends-to-the-level-of-obsessive-and-delightful-nerdiness on this forum would be an understatement. You are my people!

This might be really good. Baker and Phil Markowitz were an excellent pairing -- as heard on Broken Wing (Sonopresse/Inner City/Gitanes), which was recorded just a few months before the first of these archival sessions.

That's an outstanding album, imo.

Yes. He died in 1993, before his 50th birthday. Apparently, he was a very heavy drinker and smoker.

THANKS, hopkins! I successfully downloaded a few decade's worth. I discovered jazz in the Eighties too, Eric. Many memories of poring through Downbeat back-issues in the basement of the University of Georgia library. Jazz Times and Jazz Journal (UK) as well. In those pre-internet days, it was the only way to keep up with what was happening! (Or what had happened.)
