  1. More Fathead: and CD compiles 2 LPs: Opus De Don (1968) and Oh Happy Day (1969)
  2. Everything doesn't have to be revolutionary. I don't really know their music. I'm just sayin'.
  3. The Many Facets of David Newman (1969) / Heads Up (1987), both originally released on Atlantic
  4. I've been listening to Bax's Third and Sixth Symphonies, as performed by Bryden Thomson and the LPO:
  5. Ordered this LP today: Gary Bartz - Ju Ju Man (Catalyst) @JSngry - Thanks for the recommendation.
  6. Dizzy - Gillespiana and Carnegie Hall Concert (Verve) Tremendous. Was there EVER a big band with more swagger?!?

    Jean Luc Ponty

    I like that one too.
  8. Don't overlook the two superb Ira Sullivan LPs on Galaxy! with Billy Higgins.
  9. I haven't heard that. Sounds interesting!
  10. Wounded Bird CD reissue I have (had?) this album on vinyl, and it just vanished. Argh!!! After spending hours looking for it -- assuming it had been mis-filed -- and still not finding it, I ordered the CD. So now I have a digital version, even if the LP mysteriously re-appears. ... Lemons, lemonade.
  11. I'm with you, Daniel. The best word to describe that record is sublime. Like Kind of Blue, it's so beautiful that it doesn't seem like it's part of this world.
  12. I wouldn't argue with that. I think those two LPs are great.

Late, I'm not familiar with Sunday Walk. But I dig Ponty. A few faves: and These discs feature Ponty in a straight-ahead setting (with organ and drums). For Ponty in a FUSION mode, I'd recommend:
  14. I've never heard this one. What do you think of it, mjazzg?
  15. Not CDs -- but for those who are amenable to downloading music -- Qobuz is offering CD-quality and High-Res downloads of their entire MPS catalog at 30% off thru 03/18/22. Most albums are $4.54 for CD-quality and $5.94 for High-Res. I prefer LPs and CDs, but at those prices I expect I'll be plopping for a few. Especially since many items in the MPS catalog are expensive as LPs or CDs. As an aside, I'd recommend all of these MPS albums without hesitation: Albert Mangelsdorff Quartet – Never Let It End (1970) Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin – Tough Tenors Again 'n' Again (1970) Eddie [Eddy] Louiss – Our Kind of Sabi (1970) Anita O'Day – Anita O'Day in Berlin: Recorded Live at the Berlin Jazz Festival (1971) Attila Zoller & Masahiko Sato – A Path Through Haze (1972) Joachim Kühn – This Way Out (1973) Jimmy Raney – Momentum (1975) Hannibal & the Sunrise Orchestra – Hannibal (1975) John Handy & Ali Akbar Khan – Karuna Supreme (1976) Martial Solal & Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen – Movability (1976) Albert Mangelsdorff, Jaco Pastorius, Alphonse Mouzon – Trilogue: Live! (1977) Martial Solal – Suite for Trio (1978) Stephane Grappelli – Young Django (1979) These are all listed as favorites on my 1970s jazzblog. I have no commercial connection with Qobuz, by the way.
  16. More Blakey? Yes. and
  17. S Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Straight Ahead (Concord) Recorded at the Keystone in June 1981 and from April 1981 from James Williams' wikipedia page: Keystone Korner, 1980
  18. Yeah, I agree. Woody Shaw. The Lenny White-produced Griffith Park Collection LPs. The Bill Evans recordings from Paris. Lots of interesting stuff for a short while there. I understand that it all went out the window when Lundvall left for Blue Note. I never had that chance to see them live either. ... OTOH, at least we have the records. Yes, it's a felicitous pairing for sure.
