Found these CDs today during a lunchtime record store run:
- Kenny Barron Quintet - Concentric Circles (Blue Note)
- Harold Danko - New Autumn (SteepleChase)
- Harold Danko - Nightscapes (SteepleChase)
- Chico Freeman Quintet with Arthur Blythe - Focus (Contemporary)
- "Papa" Jo Jones - Jo Jones Special (Fresh Sound / Vanguard) -- with Lucky Thompson
- Nicholas Payton - Sonic Trance (Warner Brothers)
- Sarah Vaughan - I Love Brazil (Pablo)
The bottoming-out of the CD market continues. I got all these at absurdly low prices, none more than $3.
INCREDIBLE music saddled with an AWFUL cover.
No surprise that Norris and Mraz play wonderfully -- but this LP also features some of the best playing from Ronnie Bedford that I've heard.
On my way into work this morning:
João Donato - Donato/Deodato (Muse)
It's excellent.
Pieranunzi & Motian also made another duo record for CamJazz called Doorways. It's also well worth seeking out.
NP:
Kenny Werner Trio - Animal Crackers (Pirouet, 2017)
I love Werner's trio with Johannes Weidenmuller and Ari Hoenig. They've been making music together for 20 years!
Yeah! I saw Liebman & Beirach perform as a duo earlier this year, and it was TREMENDOUS.
Coincidentally, on the way into work this morning, I was listening to Richie:
Ballads II (Sony Japan)
