  1. Found these CDs today during a lunchtime record store run: - Kenny Barron Quintet - Concentric Circles (Blue Note) - Harold Danko - New Autumn (SteepleChase) - Harold Danko - Nightscapes (SteepleChase) - Chico Freeman Quintet with Arthur Blythe - Focus (Contemporary) - "Papa" Jo Jones - Jo Jones Special (Fresh Sound / Vanguard) -- with Lucky Thompson - Nicholas Payton - Sonic Trance (Warner Brothers) - Sarah Vaughan - I Love Brazil (Pablo) The bottoming-out of the CD market continues. I got all these at absurdly low prices, none more than $3.
  2. Eddie Harris - Greater Than the Sum of His Parts (32 Jazz / Atlantic) Disc 1 - originally two LPs: The In Sound and Mean Greens
  3. Yes! As Ellington would say, "Beyond Category."
  4. NP: Eddie Palmieri - Sentido (Mango/Coco, 1973) "Cosas del Alma"!!!
  5. Loretta Lynn's Deccas are fantastic.
  6. INCREDIBLE music saddled with an AWFUL cover. No surprise that Norris and Mraz play wonderfully -- but this LP also features some of the best playing from Ronnie Bedford that I've heard. On my way into work this morning: João Donato - Donato/Deodato (Muse)
  7. Tito Puente's Golden Latin All Stars - "Live" at The Village Gate (TropiJazz/RMM, 1992)
  8. It's excellent. Pieranunzi & Motian also made another duo record for CamJazz called Doorways. It's also well worth seeking out. NP: Kenny Werner Trio - Animal Crackers (Pirouet, 2017) I love Werner's trio with Johannes Weidenmuller and Ari Hoenig. They've been making music together for 20 years!
  9. An early Christmas gift from my wife: Latin Jazz: The First Fusion, 1900 - Today by John Storm Roberts (Schirmer)
  10. Lots of music today. So far:
  11. Enrico Pieranunzi / Paul Motian - Flux and Change (Soul Note, 1995)
  12. Music originally released as Sonando (1983) and Bien Sabroso! (1984), the first two LPs Sanchez made for Concord Picante.
  13. One of my favorites from Braxton.
  14. Yeah! I saw Liebman & Beirach perform as a duo earlier this year, and it was TREMENDOUS. Coincidentally, on the way into work this morning, I was listening to Richie: Ballads II (Sony Japan)
  15. Duke Pearson - The Right Touch (BN, 1968)
  16. Lester Young - "Prez" Vol. II (Pablo)
  17. Very cool. I've never seen that photo either. Outstanding.
  18. The Jimmy Rowles / Red Mitchell Trio - S/T (Contemporary, 1985) with Colin Bailey (d) and Stacy Rowles (tr, flgn)
  19. NP: Cal Tjader - Tjader (Fantasy, 1971)
