  1. NP: Enrico Pieranunzi, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron - Deep Down (Soul Note) from this set, which I just received in the mail:
  2. I agree on all counts. Yes!! NP: Now spinning the new CD issue, which just came out last week. Sounds GREAT, both music- and sound-wise.
  3. It's well worth seeking out. Typically outstanding duo work from Lieb & Beirach, comparable to Forgotten Fantasies -- if not quite on that level. Originally, it was only released in Japan. At some point in the 90s, it was reissued by Storyville.
  4. Jan Garbarek - Places (ECM, 1978) Terrific.
  5. Al Grey Jazz All-Stars - Travelers Lounge Live (Travelers Productions, 1977) with Jimmy Forrest (ts), Pete Minger (tr), Shirley Scott (p), John Duke (b), and Bobby Durham (d, vo)
  6. Prime late-in-the-game Ellington.
  7. Earlier, on the way home from work: Outstanding.
  8. chewy, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Now playing: Richie Beirach & David Liebman - Omerta (Trio Japan, 1978) Finally found a this LP at the right price, after only owning the music as downloads for many years.
  9. Pharoah Sanders - Village of the Pharoahs / Wisdom Through Music (Impulse) I think that's one of Brackeen's very best. What a trio! They are ON FIRE.
  10. Favorite Violin Concertos / Arthur Grumiaux, Various Conductors & Orchestras (Philips) I've never heard a more lyrical interpretation of Beethoven's VC than this version by Grumiaux and Colin Davis.
  11. In my book, you can hardly go wrong with anything by Clark Terry.
  12. Doug Carn - Infant Eyes (Black Jazz)
  13. Clark Terry - Swahili (Trip Jazz/EmArcy)
  14. Jazz Composer's Orchestra Plays Numatik Swing Band, Composed & Conducted by Roswell Rudd (JCOA)
  15. Louie Bellson - Prime Time (Concord, 1978)
  16. Frank Foster & Frank Wess - 2 Franks Please (Savoy/Arista)
  17. Love this music so much that I plopped for the Pure Pleasure 180 gram LP reissue that came out a few months ago. Not cheap. But it does sound stinkin' tremendous. (No comparison with my old blogosphere-sourced .mp3 files.)
  18. and I agree 100%. I think it's among the finest of KB's whole career, an overlooked classic.
  19. Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Alice Coltrane sits in on a couple tracks too.
  20. Gallery - Gallery (ECM, 1981) with Dave Samuels, Paul McCandless, David Darling, Ratzo Harris, and Michael DiPasqua
