  1. Inspired by others' recent Mingus posts: Charles Mingus - Changes One (Atlantic)
  2. I have quite a few albums loaded on my phone. Plus, the apartment that we rented has wireless / internet connectivity, so I also can stream music from the "cloud." We're in Quito, Ecuador (not Peru) though. 😉
  3. Desert-island music. Some of Jarrett's very best music, imo.
  4. Tremendous record.
  5. Cedar Walton - Soul Cycle (Prestige) Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band - Pensativo (Milestone)
  6. Ellington band members did the same thing when Dizzy Gillespie was in the band for a minute. Per Diz, guys in the trumpet section were very "territorial" about their parts. I bet the band vets thought Diz was an upstart whippersnapper -- just like they did with Elvin.
  7. I should go upstairs and go to bed -- but I'm on a roll, enjoying the music too much. NP: Cal Tjader - Tjader (Fantasy)
  8. Now: Jaki Byard - There'll Be Some Changes Made (Muse) First listen of a new-to-me LP. No surprise: Byard is magnificent. Earlier: Richard "Groove" Holmes - Jazz Milestones Series (Pacific Jazz) My LP is actually mono, not stereo.
  9. Thanks for the heads-up on this, Rooster! I haven't had a chance to listen yet -- but that line-up definitely looks enticing.
  10. Two Sonny Criss favorites: and
  11. Just came across this recently at a charity shop. Glad I did.
  12. That looks interesting.
  13. More Sir Roland: Roland Hanna & George Mraz - Sir Elf Plus One (Choice) Desert-island music. Incidentally, this CD has MUCH improved sound quality compared to the original LP issue, which was very rough. Plus two bonus tracks.
  14. Roland Hanna Trio - Time for the Dancers (Progressive) with George Mraz (b) and Richard Pratt (d) There are other pianists who I enjoy as much as Roland Hanna -- but there are none who I enjoy more.
  15. The James Moody & Hank Jones Quartet - Our Delight (IPO, rec. 2006) with Todd Coolman (b) and Adam Nussbaum (d)
  16. Fantastic. NP: Disc 1
